I hope he feels real good about tackling a person a quarter of his size for an "assault with a tossed shoe".

Looks like she threw her shoes at the cop by flicking them off of her feet which I suppose if anybody did that it would result in them being slammed into the wall and then thrown on the ground. By her body language it was obvious that she was giving the officers lip, again, another stupid thing to do.

But no, she didn't deserve that amount of brutality (or any at all) and the police should have shown restraint when dealing with her. Any cop worth their badge should not deal with a 15 year old like that.

However I have not seen the big picture so I could be wrong.

Actually, come to think about it, it would be interesting to see what landed her in that cell and see if anybodies opinion changes.
She and her friend were arrested because her friend's parents reported their car stolen, which they were in. She tried to kick the cop and that's when he attacked her.

At first, I though ah not that bad it's an average arrest. Then he started beating her after she was subdued. That's just being a pussy.

I really think people in this thread are generalizing quite a bit, I live in Australia and all the cops I've met have been nice people. That said the shit that has happened here is pretty fucked up, as has been said by others I cant decide fully but i doubt the crime she committed could have been as bad as to warrant that, if it was the shoe that caused that by itself the cop really needs to think whether hes in the right profession.

*Edit*
The reason for the attack was posted after i had loaded the page.

There are people who believe the function of the police is to fight crime, and that's not true, the function of the police is social control and protection of property.

I wish I were shocked by this. I used to study reporting in Hartford. One of the officers I interviewed shot an unarmed 14-year-old in the back. He wasn't punished.
This is what they need if they lift this off enought, it could put pressure on all cops to act good. I would sadly say that if a riot formed outside the police station, I would join it...and bring the punch and pie!

Rat Bastard deserves to have a lesson made of him. Truly people should protest/riot outside his building until he gets fired, and maybe you make the state pay a settlement...a 7 figure settlement to the girl.

Also I think they should make a intitaive that makes it so anyone can call tapes in the police office to report brutality to a state wide police office, and the officers have no contact with the cameras, if they edited the video or mess with the camera....automatic
20 yrs in prison w/ chance of parole.

I don't mind the camera in the cell idea, and think he went overboard but police gotta deal with a lot of shit, and there are going to be times when force is required, but still too much just for that girl, also, a lot of them are already underfunded, money shouldn't be wasted making a rude girl feel better.

I think the policeman needs to have something done to him, but so does the girl. She helped steal her parents car and then insulted police officers. It's gotta be fair both ways.

I actually appreciate your level-headed response, they both deserve reprimandation.

The girl should be tried as normal, however with the cop violating her rights seriosly, leaves the question should it be called off? Isn't there some legal mumbo jumbo about cruel punishments. I just don't want this to end up like the confession scene in Sin City when they are beating the Shit out of him, to get a confession. I know its not a confession but it still infringes on the same human rights we all deserve.

Or it could work out for her, she should make the bargin, she isn't tried, she goes scott free, the cop goes scott free, except he gets 3-6 months of administrative leave...at least hes going to get the book thrown at him.

There is defintely some middle-ground here, that would be fair for both parties, but I do think a settlement is in order to the girl who was injured, maybe not alot say 100,000 I mean its alot, but at least its not 1,000,000 or something like that.
But this cop does need to be made an example of.

If we just let his happen, it will be telling all cops that 15 yr old girls are fair game. However, I believe that after the economic crisis, we should seek to redo/rework are somewhat broken Judical system, and Cop code. Not in a time of the economic crisis, but in a convient time when we have nothing to do but to improve the quality of life.

Then there is the much played race card, I believe she was African American...correct me if I'm wrong, I cannot tell from the video. I guess it could also work as a hate crime too? Obama would not have that.

Exactly, there needs to be a middle ground. He deserves punishment but so does she.

On the "race crime" I don't believe it was, his friends and colleagues should be asked whether he has ever showed racist tendencies but she just can't hide behind the "It's 'cuz I'm black" card. It's crap in most cases and she shouldn't get off just because of her race.

There should be justice without compassion, He gets the punishment for what he did, she gets it for what she did, no bargains or whatever.

Wow, I just watched that and that was some serious overkill. That's completely horrifying.

I'm not excusing her supposedly acting like a ***** and stealing cars, because that's dumb on her part and she does need some firm punishment, but taking a beating from a cop like that? I don't think so.

How's that cop going to react when he's on duty in the middle of town and gets some lip from a bunch of dumb drunk guys? Is he going to flip out and beat the shit out of every person who mouths off at him? Don't most idiots who are arrested give them heaps? He definitely needs some discipline.

I love it when people say how much they 'hate' the police, and then at the first sign of trouble you know what they'll do? Call the police. They are after all what holds society together. You think Anarchy would be preferable? Than you are deluded.

However I say hate the police all you like: Call them pigs, hate them till your eyes burn red. It's your right!

Why? Because it's the police duty, and part of their jobs to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us. That every misconduct and mistake, every misplaced burst of anger should be held against them. Who watches the watchmen? WE DO! It's the job of the civilian to judge the police, whether they like it or not. The Police are public servants after all, no matter how much many may refuse to see it that way.

As was once pointed out in a Terry Pratchett book of all things; The public outnumber the Police. Gangs and mob men often have more manpower and more firepower, even more funding. Police must walk a thin line where they can push and shove (Because like it or not that IS their job.) without crossing that line and becoming targets themselves. There are numerous examples of occasions when the police pushed too far and were taken down because of it. Riots where police are surrounded and killed, single officers becoming the targets of mobs, and so on. It's a tragic reality of their job.

That guy? Hold him up to justice, throw him into prison himself where he's not likely to last very long. Police who end up imprisoned never do. It's harsh, but it's just. And ultimately that's part of being a police officer: To accept that you're going to be held to a higher standard than anyone else.

Did that girl probably deserve it? Possibly. Anyone who's in prison at 15 and acting like that is more often than not scum-of-the earth material. Who knows, we're only getting a brief glimpse of what happened and there's undoubtedly more to the story. But that doesn't change the fact that an officer of the law should act better.

So, wow some violence. Shock and horror.

Seriously get over yourselves, there is a reason its called the "thin blue line". Sure it was a bit over the top but in all honesty I can imagine the kind of backward chavvy abuse the girl was probably spouting anyway. Give him a slap on the wrist, anything more is just hypocritical.

wow....oh man, as a man of 30 years I have to say i am disgusted. Having been physically assaulted by a woman I have to say that cop deserves everything he gets and then some. I don't care how "lippy" she got with him or how much "pain and injury(sheesh what an f-ing pussy)" that shoe caused to his shin, there is absolutely no reason to strike a woman like that unless she has a knife or a gun pointed at you, and I've been kicked on the nuts by a woman and did not raise my hand so yeah this guy deserves the hell he will be getting and more, and no not all police are bad, for every one of these videos I see god knows how many of an officer restraining himself from shooting a-holes all the time, so this is this guy's issue and if he was a grocery worker or construction worker or even a priest he would probably still do the same thing.

What crack are you on? She lightly slings a shoe at the guy and he goes batshit insane on her.

I don't care what she said, only a jackass would attack someone for being mouthy. Who gives a shit what people say.

Absolutely disgusting. Yes, the girl may have been less than cooperative, but that is no reason to slam her into the wall like that and hitting her while she was down and subdued is just inexcusable. It's up to the police to keep the peace, enforce the laws, and protect the people. They should be some of the best of us. This man, on the other hand, is scum.

By all means, the girl should be prosecuted as normal. He however, should go down.
