Yeah, some people go way off the deep end with Political Correctness. A local high school is trying to change their name from Indians to something else. How is having a sports team named after a nationality offensive?
And I'm sure you're a member of this nationality, so you can speak about how it must feel?
Okay, if someone named a sports team the Caucasians, I wouldn't give the smallest iota of crap about it. So I can't see why anyone else would unless the picture/mascot was something like this.
You seem to be missing the point. No-one HAS called their team the Caucasians, or the Negroes for that matter, but just because you wouldn't have a problem with it, in theory, doesn't mean that you can speak for an entire ethnicity that has had it's history full of being taken for granted and under valued. I mean, imagine that some other folk had come to your home country, kicked you and yours out from your ancestral lands, and now wants to run around using the name of your people for a sporting event.
You answered the question in bold, thank you. It seems I didn't think through the issue enough. (No sarcasm there, just in case you were wondering.)

'The Nanny State' ... a creation of an education system which prides on making everyone feel they are the best at all known things. However is it going to far when traditional childhood nursery rhymes like 'Blah Blah Black Sheep' are banned.

There is your bone for today children ... discuss :D

Little disclamer - this isn't an invitation to be racist it's a discussion about political correctness. Keep that in mind before you post please.
"Baa Baa multi ethnic sheep" to keep in line with all the politically correct folk.

A certain amount of political corrctness is okay, if just to keep everyone happy an dnot bickering. But when things such as the aforementioned banning of the nursery rhyme happen, that's way beyond a step too far. Its stupid, to be frank.
Also, if Muslims and Jews and Hindu's don't advertise thir religious holidays, it doens't mean Christians (and lets be honest, the media in general) can't advertise theirs. Anyway, they can't go as far as banning Christmas songs, can they?

I'm sure its only a matter of time.
And it seems that other ethnic groups seem to get away with blatant racism, while caucasians don't. I find that a bit ridiculous. if I'm wrong, however, I apologize. I did not know.

Excuse me for double posting,As long as we are talking about political correctness I would like to get this frustration off my chest.

I wanted to say this for a long time......ITS MERRY CHRISTMAS not Happy Holidays!
I apologies if any one gets offended by this but I am tired of being tolerant of every other religions holiday that exists and not being able to enjoy CHRISTMAS.

No-one's saying you can't enjoy Christmas, but that doesn't mean that there aren't a bunch of other religous holidays going on at around the same time. Many religions and cultures celebrate the return of the sun at that time of year. You remind me of all those crotchetty old people who can't just take things at face value and say thanks. I would say Happy Holidays to people to show them that I want them to be happy, regardless of what crazy bullshit hey believe in. They older they were, the more likely they would turn and say "Merry CHRISTmas" like I pissed them off for saying anything. That's a very christian attitude they got. Get over yourself. There is more than one religion in this great country of ours. Do you really think Jesus would care? He would be celebrating Hannukah, can't he enjoy his holidays too? Or would you give him the finger for not being down with the fundamentalists?

What?!? Where is your context? How did you get to this...what ever this is?(Rant?) It seems as if I hit a soft spot..for such I am sorry If I have offended you.

Why the Happy Holidays? Why can't we just speak without being censored by some other idiot who claims "I'm hurting there religious feelings". Its crap. Freedom of Religion is ...I suppose in a way... redundant If I have to be censored for it. [sarcasm]All the religions will now be named something generic so we don't piss each other off ( which of course wont work...we will still find something to pick at ) [/sarcasm]

Quick someone censor Birthdays!!! It implys getting older!! I am Offended!!! :p

political correctness is crap..not be racist but seriously....Blacks in america are black americans or better yet just americans. The only way i will ever call anyone an african-american is if within their lifetime they moved to the US from africa..otherwise screw it. I dont run around demanding i be referred to as an Irish/Italian-American..its stupid. oh and screw BET and stuff like the NAACP if i started a WET or NAAWP i would be demonized by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and everyone else.

I don't believe in political correctness and when someone around me is politically correct I correct them. Example, one old lady once was about to say the word black then changed it to african americans. I assumed the people she was talking about hadn't just moved from Africa and were therefore American so I told her to just say black. she got mad at me. I'm white, I admit that. People shouldn't have a problem with being called black. If anyone ever calls me caucasion or european American I'm just gonna get angry and it'll suck when they accuse me of being racist against myself for calling myself white. besides, if I did it right African American is 7 syllables where as black people is just 3. So much easier to say and write. Same with white vs. caucasion.

Also I say Merry Christmas and Happy Hannakuh as half my famly is christian and half is jewish. I only say those two holidays as they are the two I am most familiar with and know when they are. I can't say happy holidays because I don't know when the other ones are. I'm not gonna do homework just to be politically correct.

Just grow some thick skin and don't be politically correct. If you are offended by people not being politically correct then let me introduce you to the internet.

People who are PC are like PETA. Their hearts are in the right place, but their minds are too f*cked up to see the truth, and they end up doing more harm than good.

Political Correctness works against the idea of Free Speech. Period. What PC does, is it says to specific groups like blacks, jews, and gays, is that they can't handle having the freedom of speech. And when somebody says that you can't handle freedom, they have turned you into a child.
So, go ahead. Make fun of peoples differences. If we can all laugh at each other, the world will truly be a better place.

This.
Total abandonment of PC is stupid, just like extreme and ridiculous overuse.

I just love how so many of you are self-righteous and talk like a character from some anime you watch, but don't bother to think things through to a cogent level.

Substitute "political correctness" with "good manners" and there doesn't have to be a problem.
My thoughts exactly. It's about being civilized and good mannered, not about made up names for classifying people without being offensive.

Fuck political correctness. Things that have existed long before our time that have not been a problem, should not become part of the problem now. Parents are responsible for the things their children are taught and are responsible for correcting things that should not be said or used.

My partner asked the question, 'Why would you catch a ****** by the toe?' which got me thinking. I didn't even know what the term ****** meant as a child but was told it was bad to use. I didn't understand why my favourite means of choosing someone for a game of tag/hide n seek etc was such a bad thing (it was changed to granny anyway and wasn't considered 'bad' go figure.)

It's full of double standards, it's just complete and utter bullshit.

You said it's Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. I'm saying that it ISN'T merry christmas for Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, and a whole bunch more folk. Folk I've never heard say "It's Duwali! Not Christmas." No one is censoring you, you just seem to be pretty upset when others decide to not assume that everyone they meet in December is a Christian. You seem to want to censor people who want to say Happy Holidays like it's an afront to your sensibilities. How they hell am I supposed to know if someone is christian or not, unless they look like they're on a twelve step program or sporting one of those huge crucifixes around their necks? Does anyone ever look back and say "It's Happy Hanukah, not Merry Christmas." What a very giving and reasonable view you have come the holidays. Is every major store supposed to spend money out the nose to make a tailored holiday greeting for every creed in America? Should they give every creed BUT christians the finger by implying that, if you have a television, you must worship Jesus? C'mon, share a little. Everyone's got a Holiday aound the same times of year. Show a little compassion for folk who are not like you. Jesus would've.

Let me say I'm sorry to all those people who misinterpreted what I said and got offended and/or upset by it.This is why I don't talk about this kind of stuff on the internet,There will always be people who get offend by some you did or didn't say. No matter how many people might accidentally offend by doing are saying what you believe, you should keep doing it and not let that stop you....After all your not saying/doing this to please them.

To get back to my original point, What I ment by my post is not what THAT GUY said.
If you didn't get my meaning, then you should look at these two links that I included in My first post.
