Political Rant #1 Legalizing marijuana

------Ok just to get my position out of the way first thing. I think that pot should be legalized with the same restrictions as either alcohol or cigarettes.
------Now for my reasoning. First off there is almost no health difference between pot and tobacco, a new british study puts pot as less dangerous than both tobacco and alcohol. This was based on a three-part criteria on how physically dangerous the drug is, how addictive it is and its impact on society.
------Secondly is the number of drug-related crimes, over fifty percent of federal inmates are in jail for a drug-related crime. almost 70% of those are in prison for marijuana. If pot were legalized then many of those people would no longer be in prison.
------Last there is the money, for every one of those people in prison for pot offenses we pay an average of $52 a day just to keep them there. Imagine how much money we would save if they were no longer in prison. Add that to the reduction in organized crime when drug smuggling is no longer as profitable and the tax money from legalized pot and it is a financially solid move.

Yes they would thank you. The thread yesterday was a poll and stupid people pissed me off, sending messages to me about my opinion and reasoning so i made this one. I think I'll make some more on different political issues later on.

Not as much as tobacco, but still addictive.

I don't think that pot should be legalised at all. It may have no short-term physical effects, but what it does do is turn perfectly normal people into black-eyed dopes. Really, we don't need any more of them than we already have.

The fat cats are keeping it illegalised, because people would choose pot instead of alcohol.

And ofcourse there is the paper industry. Paper made out of hemp is much better in every aspect then the one we are using ( made out of wood)

Because all political operative fear the paper industry. Although you did bring up hemp which is an amazing point i neglected to make. You can turn hemp into just about anything and it will cost less and be more effective that what we have now.

You would have known if you had used the search button. Seriously, this topic has been discussed A LOT of times. It's cool you're trying to be active here, promoting discussion and all. But you could try and be original, think of new things to discuss. That way you gain more responses, and avoid annoying comments from people like me! No personal flame or anything, you're reasonably new here so you missed the previous 635 marijuana topics (I bet there's been another one between the time you joined the Escapist, and the making of this topic).

Indeed.

The way I see it is this.

Anything(substance) that has zero medical benefits to your life is you being stupid and you need to be removed from society so you can stop polluting the genepool.

Cocaine, herion, marijuana all fall in this category unless you have some form of medical illness that these drugs can genuinely improve (Like Ecstacy and parkinsons).

Alcohol however does not fall into this category as it can act as a blood thinner and a glass of say wine every so often can in some cases work well for patients with clogged arteries etc.

As do I, but when one can serve a potential benefit and is illegal while one that serves no purpose other than the destruction of life and personal property I will argue that pot be legalized

You say I haven't done my research so why don't you enlighten me as to what good alcohol can possibly have on the body.
