Is it just me, or is this an absolutely retarded story?

My apologies to Canadians in advance- though this one happened on your watch, two morons does not a population make-

Here is the link to the story; you will need to copy and paste it, as I am not sure how to enable links yet:

EDIT: ODD, IT DID IT BY ITSELF...VERY COOL!!

A father is sued by his daughter over grounding her...
This is the problem with the state of education systems world wide....
This is a very dangerous precedent for parenting...

EDIT: Even considering the divorce, if it were my child, I probably would relinquish custody as well, as I would not have control over her behavior in my house anymore.

I honestly don't know what to say, but I am also curious as to what lead the mother in this situation to allow her daughter to usurp her father's ability to even discipline her while she is in house.

Still flabbergasted that this even made it to court let alone appeals. Should have been an easy "Tough luck, you live with your parents, and are a minor still." I mean, punishment is punishment as long as it doesn't go towards an abusive stage.

Now that you bring this up, I honestly believe that is what the mother was going for.

Except that because of this action, I would probably have legal means to challenge alimony rights as well- any lawyers on the site want to discuss this angle?

Yeah, there was a thread about this a couple days ago. Regardless of what the mother said, the girl lived with her father, he had a justified reason to deny her to go on that trip, and so his word should have been the end of it. The court should never be brought into family matters, especially when they're going to effectively break apart any semblance of authority the dad had over his daughter and ruin their relationship altogether.

This judge's lips should be introduced to a stapler.

EDIT: Please don't take events that occur in Quebec as any representation of Canada as a country. Things are far different over there than they are in the West, and not in a particularly good way.

I am curious about that also. It could be an interesting year for that couple if so.

Little *****... I hope the father disowns her and refuses to have anything to do with her ever again.
But really... american law is a fucking joke. That judge needs to be fired.
I wish this were in America...but it's not (Canadian court). Otherwise it would've been hotly debated on NPR already.

Hold on, I think that the jury in this case was relating to a broader extent than just this man and his daughter. This wasn't a case of, "dad grounding his daughter, and her suing and winning". This is a fight over custody between the divorced father and mother. While the father was clearly in the right, the jury is restating the popular sentiment that the mother is right over the father.

I side with the father in any case.

Wow. That guy should proably fire that lawyer.
Only problem is, how CAN you defend that case if it allowed to go to arbitration?
Good point. But the real big question is Where did she get a lawyer to represent her.

Any lawyer will represent if you give them money. Whole reason you get the running joke about them all going to hell....
