The Mayans were smart people, they're also dead. We have no idea of 2012's signifigance. And even though events are triggered to happen that year, they are not planet killers. People forget the Earth has been around for millions of years. In which we have faced worse, and survived. Imagine Earth is a person, and the ways to kill a person are universal events, the sun activity of 2012 is no more than a mosquito bite.

I doubt anything of consequence is going to happen, but personally, I kinda hope the world does end. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but it sometimes feels like the amount of stupidity, cruelty and just plain old evil in human society has reached a fever pitch. Seriously, the Gulf is completely destroyed by BP, radio and TV hosts accuse the president of being a Socialist Nazi Commie Devil and openly encourage armed rebellion, the University has gone from institute of learning to a training program for underpaid wage slaves, and worst of all, the average citizen doesn't seem to care about any of this because he's too busy watching TV and eating McDonald's to notice. Don't even get me started on the bizarre sense of entitlement and unwarranted self-importance most people under the age of 25 seem to suffering from these days.

End of the world? Bring it on. Time to start fresh.
All that said to me was "don't live in the states". Advice taken my friend, advice taken. All you basically said was the end of the USA, not the world unless that is the extent of the world to you and that this comment is coming from a non-existant fairy land outside of your realm, in which I'd like to say "Greetings lesser being, welcome to te internetzorz".

Back to the topic, the Mayan's didn't know life existed much past their jungle, let alone outside what is know known as South America, so the end of the "world" is more likely to be their "known world". Hard luck South America. On a serious note,

It's fake and I'm pretty sure anyone who says it's real is just being sarcastic. The problem is people are taking the sarcasm seriously and, in a cruel touch or irony, are becoming the main reason the theory is getting so much publicity.

I can only speak from personal experience. America is my country of origin and, for the foreseeable future, my home. To cut a long story short, living in another country is not an option that's open to me. Given that, I wouldn't mind seeing the world end.

I can guarantee you this, though; the rest of the countries of the world aren't that much better off. Not really.

The 2012 hysteria isn't fake. Fake requires calculated deception. You can fake stupid, but you can't fake such widespread stupid.

The question you meant to ask is "Will the world end in 2012?"

Who knows?

I kind of hope it is real, because it will be the one thing the conspiracy lunatics are ever right about, and they won't have time to gloat about it cuzz we'll all be dead.

wont end. its the end of the Mayan long count calender. Just so happens to be in Dec 2012. And whathappens after the long count ends?

Well.. the same thing happens when the Gregorian calender ends.

IT STARTS OVER.

What would it matter? If its real we wouldn't care anyway cuz it would all be over. If not, anyone fretting about it will be disappointed.
I vote the third option, to not give a flying fuck.

From a purely secular stand point: the Mayan calendar does not predict the end of the world but the end of the current cycle, and not an end but more of a new start. The Mayans are not expecting the end of the world so why are we? its another pointless conspiracy theory, the world is not ending and you must be stupid to believe it is.

From a religious stand point:"You shall know neither the date nor time of the end of the world" according to God we will not know when the end comes until it comes, meaning that i know for sure that 2012 is not the end, and that i can say with certainty. so on that note if you are Christian and believe this shit, then don't. On the same note if you believe this shit at all, it does not make sense and is not supported in any way, so don't believe the lies.

As always in these discussions I'll go with the theory that first pointed out the Mayan calender thing for me.
The fifth world will end and the sixth world will begin at the end of the Mayan system. While you jokers are waiting for it to kick off in 2012, I'll be using magic at the start of the Awakening in 2011.

2012 being the end of the world no...2012 being a year well duh. Here's how I think it went down when the mayans were carving the calendar.

Mayan 1; Hey man are you still carving the calendar
Mayan 2; Yeah, I'm at 2012
Mayan 1; It'd be pretty funny if you ended the calendar at a random date in 2012
Mayan 2; *proceeds to throw spear at random tree* Uh...12...30? No..12..20..21?
Mayan 1; 'eh good enough.
Mayan 2; Let's clock off for lunch.

The 2012 theory is based on the Great Cycle calendar. It's the end of the Great Year in that calendar.
Now, tell me: when you get to December 31, do you worry about the end of the world? No, because you have another calendar. Obviously, the Mayans just didn't get around to making another calendar.

A friend of mine said "If those Mayans could predict the end of the world, how come they didn't see the Spanish coming?"

Probably been ninja'd on the saying, but I'm sleepy now, anyway.

Im guessing I will have a calendar which will run out in 2012 as well, with similar consequences.

I would be pissed off though if by some coincidence there was an apocalyptic event in 2012. Any of these doomsayers that survive would not be able to shut up about it.

Btw, has anyone heard anything about people actually preparing for 2012? Y'know, preparing food, investing in a bomb shelter etc.
So, I won't be seeing you in Vault 101?

For the last time: Putting the word "poll" in front of a thread does NOT make it a pool. Sheesh, guys.

It is FAKE

The "2012 Apocalypse" idea is bull.

But just in case anyone around me thinks it ISN'T, I'll be locking my doors and loading my guns, just in case.

Y'know, riots...
