After reading a forum on www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=629455 about "7 reasons why the world will end" and with only 2 years left on this planet *hah* I'm tired of the same theories non-stop (Mayan Calender, LHC, The Bible...) Screw the experts, they were wrong about alot of things, why not let us have a stab at predicting how/why/who/when/what ends the world...

How do you think the world will end *hah* 21st December 2012

Personally I believe the world will be split into two...The sane and the retarded and then the sane enslaves the retarded and keep them as pets in our glorious uptopia that fears nothing to do with the end of days

I actually have met a couple of loonies who believe this. At least superficially, they were unwilling to put their money where their mouths were.

You see, I have this binding contract, in triplicate, always with me. It states that if the world does end between 23:59 31.dec 2011 and 00:01 1.Jan 2013 and both I and the second undersignee die, I promise to his/her slave and property in whatever afterlife he/she believes we will end in. But, if the world does not end between the specified timeframe and we both are in fact still alive after the year has changed to 2013, they give me all their material possessions, wealth and money effectively the moment the time period has ended (after appropriate wealth-transfer related taxes are paid of course).

I've actually had it looked trough a friend of mine (who is a young lawyer) and the agreement is as legally binding as possible. I've simply yet to meet any 2012 looney willing to sign it with me....

Shows you how much they really believe in the BS they spout.

My personal guess, if the world does end during 2012, it will be by human hands. Method: nuclear fires of the world's atomic weapons stockpiles blowing up and cooking us alive as our atmosphere is heated to a few thousand degrees by the energy realease.

Old people will still complain about young people, the world will keep spinning, and stupid things will still be rather popular (inexplicably!).

Didnt the mayan calender predict the end of an era and not necessarily the end of the world?

The end of an era could mean many things... although the end of the world would be the end of an era aswell...

Or 2012 will go the way of Y2k and so many other doomsday days have gone before.

The only way the world will wnd in 2012 is if Half Life 2:Episode 3 is total sh*t.
In other words near impossible.

Nope. I certainly don't think so. However, as a fan of Terry Pratchett, if I were to follow his Discworld storyline, then the world is destroyed and recreated each second, so...um...Yes? But only if Discworld were true!

Idiots may start a minor riot quickly suppressed by Riot Officers who want to go to sleep, the next day people realize they blew all there money on NBC suites, bomb shelters, and MREs, they are broke and then start over preparing for the asteroid that the Russians say will hit...

It never ceases to amaze me that people actually spend time thinking about this drivel.

And no, it won't.

Well, that's what people who actually bother to study mayans and know stuff about mayan culture and stuff other than 'It's the end of their calendar!'

Hell, people who study mayans for a living literally find the 2012 BS to be so utterly full of fail that they scoff upon it deleriously.

Also, mayans couldn't predict their own society's demise. They don't exactly have a good trackrecord in -that- regard.

Besides that, these 'experts.' What are their criteria? Do they have a good trackrecord (anything above 50%) for predicting the eschaton? How many apocolypses have they successfully predicted with any certainty?

How do you become an expert on the eschaton? What are you even called? Eschatologist? Armageddonologist? (actually that rolls off the tongue)

The only way we're gonna see the end days in 2012 is if some douchebag hits the button just to be a prick. But that's got nothing to do with 2012, that button's already there.
