I agree with this part but not the rest. The world will split into these catagories, only because there are going to be the retards running around going "THIS IS THE YEAR WE ARE GOING TO DIE!!!". Then you get the sane people standing back, getting on with their lives shaking their heads at the retards (why is it i hate saying that word?).

The end of an era could mean many things... although the end of the world would be the end of an era aswell...

Or 2012 will go the way of Y2k and so many other doomsday days have gone before.

Funny thing... I've heard the Mayan calendar actually ended once before too, but since it wasn't the end they changed it and most people doesn't know this because... well, it's pointless knowledge, it's not like an ancient calendar is made to predict the end of the world, my calendar ends every year and I just throw it out and get a new one and the world starts spinning again. As far as I know the world has already ended twice in my life, I've heard it was supposed to end in 1997 (ancient prediction) and once in 2000. I feel a little invincible for surviving both those.

If the world does end (which won't happen), then I reckon that it will be because cockroaches discover that they are the only lifeforms on this planet that could survive a nuclear explosion, which leads to them launching all of our nukes at us.

It didn't predict anything. It just ends, and people assume that means it's supposed to be the end of the world. The reason it stops at 2012 was probably just because the person (or people) making the calanders just got tired of it and figured 2012 was so far away that it probably wouldn't matter at that point.

OT: The world won't end, and then people will find some crackpot theory of why the world will end in 2021 or something.

All that will happen is that one of the Mayan calenders finishes a cycle and moves on to the next. Suggesting that the world will end in 2012 because of this is as ridiculous as suggesting the world will end on December 31, 2010 because you haven't seen any calenders for 2011 in the shops yet. Ah, you stole my answer. Good to see I'm not the only one who thought 'Well, of course the world will end in 2012. It ends all the time and is recreated.' For a given value of true, I'm sure it's true.

After reading a forum on www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=629455 about "7 reasons why the world will end" and with only 2 years left on this planet *hah* I'm tired of the same theories non-stop (Mayan Calender, LHC, The Bible...) Screw the experts, they were wrong about alot of things, why not let us have a stab at predicting how/why/who/when/what ends the world...

I have a friend that believes the world will end in 2012. Apparently the prince of darkness appears in human form and tricks the world with the great lie and it sends the world into choas. Then before everyone dies, the believers will be taken up to heaven to be safe until the insanity and destruction ends.

I said "fair enough, but what will happen if your belief doesn't come true?" No answer, looked like he maybe disappointed.

OT, sounds like a load of rubbish to me, worst thing that will happen are sequals to Spiderman and KotCS.
