*gets flame-thrower* For the millionth time the Mayan calendar doesn't end. It starts again. They believed in a coronation would take place 10,000 years from now. They didn't foresee the Spanish so they didn't foresee the end of the world. My god SHUT UP ABOUT 2012!!!! Though it is odd the number 1221 has been in my head for years then this shows up:

12/21

(In American datedness which is odd I'm English.) But due to me having to search for the 1221 in that I doubt it.

well on December 21 2012 we align with the centre of the universe so at night you will see amazing stars and that's about it.
Well that's the biggest pile of bull-shit ever, The orbit of our planet doesn't go near our galaxy let alone the UNIVERSE. And we don't even know where the centre is. We can have a rough guess based of red/blue shift but then that's only if the Big bang theory is correct. Also You wouldn't see any more/less stars you would still be in your galaxy.

Nothing will happen. These superstitions based on at best unreliable and exaggerated sources are causing people to panic for no reason when there are real issues that need addressing. Shame on them all.

That being said, I still stocking up on food and ammo, just in case.

I think that someone, somewhere will have a birthday.
Do you know how many people have their birthday every day? Hundreds. Literally hundreds.
About 20 million. Now, if we could get them all together for one huge party... man. :)

My guess? The London Olympics will finally be built, only a few months after the actual end of the event.

Nothing is going to happen. Anyone who buys into that shit that has NOTHING at all backing it, really needs to be used for some kind of government list. >_>
You're an atheist, then?

I just don't know. I hope its a rebirth of the earth.

Without the humans.

(Yes, I realize I would be dead, but for the better of the earth)
(I also realize that the next dominant race would probably do the same thing, but that would be billions of years. So the earth may recover/adapt)
This is an unusual opinion. Since when is a hunk of rock more important than the human race? There are billions of planets out there, but how many of them sustain intelligent life? It seems like this opinion hasn't been thought though at all.

As for this mayan thing, I don't think they actually predicted this as the end of the world, I think they just ran out of numbers to count to.
If you look at the darkest point in the night sky, with a high-tech telescope and zoom a while, you will see thousands of lights. No they are not stars, they are galaxies.

There are more planets than all the deserts have sand particles, there obviously are lot of planets that have intelligent life dwelling on them.
It would be odd to think that we are something unique.
Whether we are alone in the universe is a whole different argument, yet I am in agreeance with you. However, why would the 'puriy' of the Earth be more important than an intelligent species. As you said "more planets than sand particles" so why would the loss of the human race make the world better.
Well. If human race survives for about 10 000 years more, we have started to colonize other planets. Mars would have been transformed to on terra class planet thousands of years ago and it has it's own sivilisation, just like many other planets we had possibly conquered.

Then we for the first time confront an intelligent alien species, that could be even more technologically advanced than us, or about in the same level. What do we do?

It's either peace or war?

If you look into the history of man, you'll see what we have always done when coming into contact with new sivilisations. What happened to Indians?, who slaved the Africans? What happened to the native populations of South America?
The same would propably happen again.

You could say that in 10 000 years people would evolve to be more reasonable and less selfish, but I doubt it. Humans race is over 200 000 years old. We were agressive and hostile to others back then and we are still now. 10 000 years, it's a lot of time but is it enough for us to change for the better.

If it's not, we would better not to exist at all.

Plus, didn't Nostradamus predict a lot of things that happened, like even 9/11/01, and the last TV show I saw on his predictions stated he had prophecies and visions dating well into the year 3000. I may be wrong on that, I was a bit young when I saw the program though.
Keep in mind that Nostradamus' predictions are incredibly vague and could be applied to multiple things. Here is the "9/11 prediction" from urbanlegends.about.com,

"The sky will burn at forty-five degrees latitude,
Fire approaches the great new city
Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up
When they want to have verification from the Normans." End of quote.

New York is at about 40 degrees latitude, so that matches up fine. Keep in mind that other major world cities at the time are located at 40-45 degrees latitude. Such as, Madrid, Milan, Naples, Rome, and Venice. With some of those large cities, his prediction had to come true at some point.

Ah, that I was not 100 percent sure of, like I said, I was young when I saw the program, I never remembered the prediction. But hey, like they say: "A broken clock is right twice a day", so I guess he is bound to get some right.

In 2012...

THE OLYMPICS ARE COMING TO LONDON! \/\/007!!!

(apologies for the allcaps)
Ooh I forgot about that. Maybe the opening show they've designed will explode, destroying the Olympic arena with the kind of explosion that would make the Spooks writers jealous.
Maybe instead of filling the Olympic torch with fuel they fill it with deadly super-AIDS that wipes out humanity. Who knows?
