http://blog.spout.com/2009/03/05/5-reasons-a-watchmen-movie-was-unnecessary/

What are your opinions of this blog?

EDIT:Deleted opinion, people are going to think that I am trying to make my opinion yours when Im mearly trying to make this comment bigger than 3 lines and give my take on it. Oh yeah dont hate the commenter, hate the pretentious blogger.

Also poll is just to show opinions in number format and for people to voice their opinions without typing.

...Why do people get so into movies there has to be a deep 'reason' for it? I /know/ it's an art form, but I didn't get why people did that to my art work in IB Art either, I drew a picture dude because its fun. I'm not trying to express some amazing forth coming message about my subconcious.

Other than a franchise being popular, I can't think of a much better reason for doing a movie, yes its for money, but somewhere in that cold metallic industry someone wanted to make this movie for pure unadulterated fun and thought it'd do well.

Oooo Shock-Horror, that's a tad over done too. Romance? Moooore than over done.

It's very rare that a movie/story/art peice/game/music peice, touches on an entirely new subject. So no I don't think it was 'late to the party'. Unessissary? Well if you're gonna argue that, all art-forms are. They're not particularly useful for anything except making people go 'oooo' thats interesting.

This is coming from someone newly involved in the Freelance art industry, And I really think some people have to vary their scope. I thought Watchmen was a hell of alot better than the next generation of marvel/DC movie bile, like Spiderman 3 or Xmen-3 (okay yeah, I didn't like it much). I play/watch/listen to alot of art forms, so nope, a Superhero movie was fine with me.

I enjoyed the movie, I enjoyed the novel. Plain and Simple.

I've always laughed when some new big blockbuster comes out, people are vocally opposed to it. I'm about 99% sure that its just a way to garner attention.

I've always held the information in a blog with a grain of salt.

I enjoyed both greatly, I did somewhat controversially think the films ending was better to be honest. [sup] Please don't hate me[/sup]

It was made to be an interesting film and it succeeded.

Not as good as the book, but since we are speaking of film I fail to see how that is relevant.

Was it necessary? No. Is virtually any piece of media every produced necessary? No.

I don't see what the point of the poll was.

I loved both the comic and the movie. I wish people would stop making threads about this. Its like Halo, and which console to play. Everyone has their own opinion, stop trying to make it yours.

So according to this guy, we should stop seeing every superhero movie ever made from now on simply because superhero movies have been done before? This guy is a pretentious douchebag of the highest order.

I only agreed with the first two.
I went to see it mostly to see how they adapted it, and the sound track was rather amazing.
The cinematography was beautiful.
The acting was stupendous.
So, while it was a little redundant, it was a work of art. Pure, beautiful, art.
Point of contention - I thought the sound track, or at least how it worked with the movie, was probably the worst part of the movie. 99 Red Balloons playing as Laurie and Dan's date began seemed a little odd. And Hallelujah while Dan and Laurie had sex? It just seemed disturbing. I'm also not a Bob Dylan fan - I understand how his lyrics work with the story, but I personally would have preferred it without the Dylan.

That being said, I really enjoyed the movie. My only real plot complaint was how incongruous it seems that the world would suddenly feel that by working together they could defend themselves against Dr. Manhattan when it's pretty much been hammered in that Dr. Manhattan is basically indestructible and Uncomprehendingly powerful. The deeper explanation of Rorshach's past was nice.

All that being said, I'm not expecting to change your mind about the sound track, just saw it as a good place to get my point in.

Alot of things in life are unnecessary to alot of people but that doesn't make them any less enjoyable. Video games and music for example, art, television, sports, etc.

Read the novel. It's a million times better.
I don't know about millions times better

I'd say 2x, 3x maybe.

but the novel was so good, that even a movie that's half as good is still pretty sweet.

define necessary? I mean, was it necessary to my life? no. World Peace? Probably not.

But what I think it did was open up the venue to people who aren't graphic novel people to give it a chance, and while I can complain about a few things in it, I think it pulled it off better than almost anyone expected.

My biggest gripe is that Rorschach used a clever instead of giving him a saw then lighting the place on fire. The fire was so much more cruel...

I would say I have to agree. I got the crappiest seats in the house because I was late and it was opening weekend but I still think it was the best movie I've ever seen. Nixon's nose was hilarious.

Weeelllll....

I can think of 65 reasons why the game was unnecessary

I can think of 26 reasons why people are entitled to their opinions

I can think of 18 reasons why the movie allows people to experience a story they otherwise would not know nothing about.

Too bad none of it matters.....
