Lately I've been thinking about getting a six pack, but I keep from doing anything about because I always think of how much I will have to work in order to obtain and maintain them.

So I ask you Escapist, what do you think about teh six-pack abs?

Why have a 6 pack when you can have the whole Keg?

In all seriousness though I find that the ladies of my generation are more attracted to the almost.. faded 6-pack, like it's noticable but not in your face yelling "RIGHT HERE!"

Well, the thing about Abs, is that most people wear clothing on a daily basis, making the ideal form of a Six Pack (uncovered). Very hard to achieve, but if you live near a beach, say, in California, I would definetly work towards a Six-Pack, since you would be able to go to the beach and just show off a bit.

Its also healthy to stay fit, so if you are really up to it, do the work. Plus it can never hurt to be in shape when it comes to impressing people for partnership sakes.

I do 100-200 sit ups and other ab exercises a day . The Army is great like that. I don't really have a choice in it, but its's kind of nice.

If you are a lazy bastard, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Coming from someone who had them/has them fading, its safe to say it is not worth it. Why do you need them? To impress girls? Sure, I got compliments for them by women, but nothing ever came from it. Flat and solid, like NeutralDrow said, is probably for the best. You don't really want a truly defined six-pack either. I found that one that is almost...shall we say, hidden, is the best one to have. For example, if you stretch/lean a certain way and they come out, that is the "six-pack" I'm talking about =P

I do have to agree though, there is nothing wrong with working out/staying fit and healthy! I still do sit-ups from time to time, but nothing to keep my six-pack around.

I'd also like to add that, just like anything else...you're going to have to stick with it. The moment you let that one day of exercise pass you by, it all goes downhill.

Too much effort. Just build up an acceptable level of fitness, then use the rest of the time developing more interesting hobbies and fixations than your ripped physique. Else you might very well find yourself turning into a dick.

It's not hard maintaining 6 pack abs. Once you achieve your goal, just don't eat the same fatty foods you used to. Whatever workout you were doing to get you there, you'll more than likely still be doing because you'll feel better and more energized, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm sure that sounds easier than it actually is, but that's why a lot of people are overweight. They are too lazy and lethargic to do anything about it.

The army would love me. I used to do 1,000 every night before bed back in high school. That was years ago though. Damn full time job and college!

I don't know if I can say it's much trouble to get. I'm naturally skinny and can't gain weight easily. If I work at it a little (I'm too lazy), then I'd have abs easily. They're already sort of showing. Depends on how willing you are to work at it.

Extra abdominal strength is always a good thing.

Being fit is pretty awesome.

If my knees weren't bad I'd still be working out. Obama needs to get that there healthcare going. Those of us 30k in debt from college can't really afford any extra bills after everything else :p (don't pay for my internet so don't say "cancel your comcast it'll pay for healthcare").

Would that mean you'd have the sensitivity of one across your entire body? Sounds like it would make hugging even more awesome.

I'm essentially the same way, but I am definitely not looking forward to the day when my metabolism slows down, and I still eat the way I am right now.

Well, if someone had a six pack and a clean-shaven chest, I'd be very tempted to touch their abs.
Just to feel what it was like, you know?
*moment of introspection*

Is it sad that I was thinking of feeling a man's abs from a purely artistic standpoint? For that matter, whenever I see a nice physique, I want to see them nude just so I could draw 'em.
Of course, the glasses I see through are platonic ones, so I'm not sure if it counts.

You won't have to wait long. Mid to late 20s and you'll be gaining weight like a pregnant chick.

Yeah, that's a bad thought. I don't exactly eat well either, plus the occasional midnight mini-binge. I should start working out again.

Seems kinda pointless to me.
Sure girls might like it, but there are girls who like men with shaved legs, bleached anal hairs and who beat the shit out of them during sex.

Point being, I'd much rather have someone who likes me for the way I am, too lazy to work out yet skinny as anything.
