Lately I've been thinking about getting a six pack, but I keep from doing anything about because I always think of how much I will have to work in order to obtain and maintain them.

So I ask you Escapist, what do you think about teh six-pack abs?
A barrel carries more, which is how my chest is shaped. ;)
Also, as soon as you stop exercising, that six pack will turn straight to belly.

Everyone's abs look the same, it's a matter of how much fat you have in front of them.
Not exactly. The more you work them the larger they get and the less fat you have the more they are obvious.

False. My 8-pack is far more defined than other people with far less fat than me.

OT: To tell the truth, all an 8pack has done for me is inflate my Hindenburgesque ego. I wouldn't (and didn't) actively try to get one, but if it just happens in the course of the workouts you do, it's great.

Unless you're going to use them for a practical purpose (chicks don't count), it seems like a lot of wasted energy.

You don't need a six-pack that is so blatantly obvious that people think you have too much free time for sit-ups, but, like other people have said, a faint one that you can see slightly when not flexing is good.

I used to do sit-ups when I was around 12-13. Now I'm 15 and haven't really done any sit-ups, and I still have my six-pack just as visible as I had it back in the day lol.

Maybe that's just me though.

Why have a 6 pack when you can have the whole Keg?

In all seriousness though I find that the ladies of my generation are more attracted to the almost.. faded 6-pack, like it's noticable but not in your face yelling "RIGHT HERE!"
Bah, that was what I came in here to say!

At this point, I wouldn't mind just a completely flat stomach, it's not quite there yet, I'm trying to get back in shape for American Football, but six packs? They're pretty superficial but sure, I wouldn't mind them I guess.

Just be healthy. I'm skinny, athletic build, but no six pack, and I'm perfectly fine with it. I wear a shirt all the time, so it doesn't matter. And if there's a girl who happens to be taking my shirt off, at that point she doesn't care about the six pack, or lack thereof.

Every guy I've met with a six pack has been a tool about it. I don't know about other girls, but I'd rather have something to squeeze! :)

This, I'm skinny as a stick, so I got a 6 pack with no effort.

Now I just have to find a way to have them not look at the rest of me.

My personal opinion is no, the reward is not worth the effort... I do believe people should maintain a general level of fitness and reasonably healthy diet though.

However, there are plenty of superficial women solely attracted to that kind of over the top fitness or excess money etc etc and if a girl of that calibre is what you're after then yes, you absolutely should get one and leave the down to earth women to the rest of us.

Me too tbh. I don't mind if a guy is skinny or has a six pack but it feels so great when a guy with stuff around his bones gives me a great, big bear hug.

Not worth it at all. you can be slim and toned without a six pack. If you want to work on body tone work on Chest, arms and Back muscles. if you tone these up to be more defined then you will be in good shape. This will also involve a lot of core work and may even get you near to the 6-pack goal. from there then decide if you want to push for it.

I am a strong believer of physical fitness so, ya a six pack would be good, but try to get the whole body in shape; I hate people who focus on one part of their body being in peak physical condition while the rest of their body is toothpick size.

I really don't like how they look, to be honest, and neither does my girlfriend.

I'd be cool if I could have the strength that comes with having muscles while looking the same. :/

Meh, I prefer flat subtle abs, maybe slightly muscular, but I'm not really into the Arnold type of physiques...
