Maybe add a couple more options to the poll? I like the idea, but I wouldn't use it because I don't really care. It is an interesting idea though, so kudos. You also may want to mention in the OP that DA filters mature content, so it wouldn't be that hard to keep it from coming onto Escapist.

As much as I like many artists on DeviantArt, I have to say I am more of a fan of ConceptArt.org (though I'm loth to say that you're not a real artist if you don't go there...)

I love looking at the art from games and movies, and CA seems to have more professional art focused on design for media, rather than fan art. Fan art is awesome in it's own way, but I like to see the ideas behind my favorite movies and games. (Ideas that I would personally love to come up with, if only I had more talent. Living vicariously through others and all that.)

What I'd be looking for in the Escapeist is a way to link to the artist's page within the myriad arts communities out there, instead of picking just one. A certain focus on game art would be great, but not to the point of squashing out other art as well. We have twice now had specific shows about music and videogames. Being a singer, I love these musical takes on our favorite games. I feel it's time for the art world to have some love here. If that means linking to DA, than so be it. Again, though, I wouldn't like this branching to only be towards that one site.

Yes, I've talked a lot and said nothing. In essence, Yes to a linking to Deviant Art, with the hopes of enabling linkage to other sites as well. This couldn't work the way that other linkages do, since it could become very spam-heavy, but a way for Escapeist artist to share pieces of their work more effectively in this community would be great. Saying that, I feel the time is ripe for a continuing discussion about game-related art in some sort of front-page-of-the-site manner.

I've added the DA filter point. But adding more poll options might just make things a bit unfocused no? A simple yes or no question gets the basic figures needed. Unless you have a better idea that I haven't thought of. In which case, feel free to post it ^_^

Why is that? I'm always asked to qualify my allcaps.

I'm quasi-indifferent to it as I would never use it personally (so I'm declining to vote in this poll) but I have no problem with others having that on there. If a mature content filter can be made, go for it.

As such, I vote no, because I don't see a need for it. There's a place to link to an outside URL already.
Good point. Maybe if we just expanded that field to allow for up to 2-3 links it would work.

As for Formspring, do they have modules that go on other sites?

I wouldn't use it myself, but I'd like to watch other's creations. If it were to happen, I'd prefer a small box where a minimized preview of a randomized artwork is shown, with links to the account and the picture itself. Escapist would have to work out a deal with DA, but I'm sure it can be arranged. I really liked your idea in the group, Timelord.

Also, it'd have to be filtered and be subject to moderation.

EDIT: Timelord, let me know if you want this stickied. Sometimes it gives you less attention, especially for new threads, just so you know.

I used to deviantART back in the day, I regret it big time, No I won't go any deeper because the urge to stab out my eyeballs, and then go back in time and hang my younger self and set the corpse on fire would get unbearable

Stickiedness would be fantastic, thank you kindly. Nasrin just said to do a survey, she didn't say for how long or anything like that, so if it's up for a few days or something to get a good selection of responses and votes then that would be snazzy!

I vote yes.

I'm trying to think of reasons why I vote yes, but mostly it's because I see no reason to vote no. The only 'no' reason that I buy is the "We can already put links in our bio/etc, we don't need a dedicated link for it." That and letting members here show off their art/etc easier sounds only positive to me.

Edit: Though I vote yes, I'm not sure whether it should be a simple link or more involved. DeviantArt already has artist-placed filters, so having pictures displayed shouldn't be toooo bad. Oh, and having a few pics displayed could cause interest as well as dis-interest depending on how good/bad an artists' work is. But yeah, a link at least.

Edit2: And come on, as I type this an artwork called: "Oni Akuma and Evil Ryu" is on the front page under 'Most Popular in last 8 hours'. It is pure leetness, and I'm not even a Street Fighter fan.

No, they will never link to a site with massive amounts of porn on it.
First off, no it is not filled with "massive amounts of porn". Some questionable nudes and skew viewed moderators, yes. If your any where looking for porn your going to find it. Now aren't you?

Second off there is a mature filter, it's always on if you don't have an account.

Thirdly, no I don't think they should be brought together in any way, the escapist has nothing offer the art community as it stands now. Right now all it will give is one more hopeless advertiser who thinks having a DA account or DA group will give them an edge.

No.

DA comes off as largely an ecchi site. Real artists use their own domain.
Lauren Faust has a deviant art account. And so do a lot of professional artist. But a lot of them also have their own personal website. Deviant art is a good way to make connections with lots of budding artist and is a fairly quick way to find and keep track of their activities and projects. A personal website is something that would suit for when you need to present yourself to some serious individuals who want to see you're portfolio and nothing else. Real websites cost money though so yeah. I wouldn't be so quick to bump deviant art like that.

No. What kind of random-ass idea is this? Link a gaming website to an art community website? Linking Gmail to Youtube makes sense; they're both Google. Linking Facebook to almost everything makes sense; Facebook is a social-networking giant. Linking the Escapist to deviantArt? What the hell? Where did anyone even get this idea?

I like both websites, and go to them all the time, but I don't get this.

I dunno. I have a deviantart account for the three tattoo designs my friends drew, and so that I can do filterless viewing of the content, so that I'm not hindered by restrictions when trying to view friends' artworks. I guess I'd link, but it wouldn't need to be that involved.
