So I might be getting a PS2 here soon and I've been mulling over what games I should buy. I'm really on the fence about Final Fantasy 7 for one reason. I know a few things storywise and I don't want that to ruin my experience. I know about Zack and some stuff about Midgar and I know about THE death. (Yeah you know what I'm talking about) Along with some small things, I think.

So what do you think guys? Should I buy it or not?

I'll give it to you straight: I loved Final Fantasy VII.
It had a multitude of problems, mainly concerning the script, but it really is a game that I feel everyone should at least try.

Yes. Even though there are some spoiled moments, they will still be great moments, and the rest of the story is great. It's my favorite game ever.

Yeah give it a buy. I got it from the playstation store and after getting used to the dated graphics I got really into the story. It is a good game in my books but probably not worth paying a large chunk of money for. Do you know how much it will cost to get?

If you own a PS2 and don't have FF7, Crazy Taxi and Silent Hill 2, you might as well take it back.

Do it, man. DO IT.

Edit: This could help you figure stuff out. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/772/772296p1.html

If you can find one for a reasonable price, sure. But I looked for one and the lowest amount people were asking for was 70$, which is WAY too much. I'd say, a good game for 20 or lower, otherwise your just wasting your money.

Also, if you have a PSP, you could just download it for like 10 bucks or something. That's definately worth it.

You may as well check it out. Its quite dated now, but you probably could still find some enjoyment in playing it. The rest I suppose is up to you and your own personal tastes in games. :)

Regardless of what you may or may not know (my heart goes out to you for having such an amazing story ruined), Final Fantasy VII is still one of the greatest fantasy stories ever told. Heck, I accidentally had "the death" ruined for me while I was playing, but when it finally came down to it I was depressed for the next week. It's that freaking good. I say, absolutely. As a gamer, or anyone who loves a good story, Final Fantasy VII absolutely cannot be missed for any reason.

No but I'd hope I could find it for under 60 dollars.

That list is meh. It mostly has good games on it but the order is funky. I mean San Andreas Number one? Having a Guitar Hero game on it?

But I hear you man.

Personally, I had barely used the "character in question" so when "The Death" happened I really didn't care much. I preferred the idea of Cloud matching up with Tifa anyway, so I had no attachment to Dead character.

On the back of the case it has in quotes "...quite possibly the greatest game ever made." There's a reason for that. There are people out there who say it's junk, overrated, boring. These people are entitled to their opinion, but most of them are normally bitter and just want to be heard. Troll I think is what they are called.

The only thing that may cause you pause is how the game looks. Age has not been kind. However, the characters are some of the most memorable, the story has--for many people--a personal stake in it, and the amount of stuff to do in the game is well worth it. If you want an in-depth reason why you should get this game, let me know.

The Guitar Hero franchise, which has been milked to death at this point, was a MASSIVE hit and #2 was by far the biggest step forward in terms of co-op play, difficulty, and just had a killer track list. It's really all a matter of taste though. For me, the inclusion of Virtua Fighter 4 on the list is just silly.

I'd say don't buy it, personal opinion here: I think it is the worst in the Final Fantasy series and a low point in JRPGs.

You can do so much better, trust me.

A lot of people say that. I didn't use said character in battle pretty much at all, but remember, this is Final Fantasy. Events like that do not only affect gameplay, they more importantly affect story. I thought Tifa/Cloud was probably a better match (especially once playing Crisis Core and seeing Zack's role in all this), but the blooming romance between Cloud and said character was just so cute, and said character had such a great "innocent" quality, that I had gotten really connected to the character. It also helps that said character was my date at the Golden Saucer.

On another note, Aerith's Theme is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. But then, what else would I expect from Nobou Uematsu, one of the greatest composers ever to live. The Final Fantasy series has some of the best music ever written, for a game, movie, of even just as music.

Final Fantasy 6 and 7 were always my favorite. They both have interesting characters and story lines that make up for the bad graphics. I know everyone will hate me for saying this, but after those two, I thought the series went downhill.
