No, I'm grasping at the straws that the budget and team that was originally intended to make the Halo film made District 9 in it's place.
That's a common misconception. The only thing that Blomkamp had to do with the "Halo" movie, originally, was that he was set to direct it. Jackson's company was driving to produce it, but they were under-budgeted POSTPONED the "Halo" movie and, with Blomkamp still available, he and Jackson went into producing (without their accumulated "Halo" budget) the feature-length "Destrict 9".

The team was not set for "Halo", aside from Neil himself, and the budget was its own. The two were not connected.

You didn't leave an option for "Neill Blomkamp."
I second this. If any duo could direct/produce the Halo movie it would be Blomkamp and Jackson.(maybe spielburg(sp) could help make a good Halo movie a reality if he was sitting in either chair) Additionally making sure the script at least had Bungie's seal of approval would be a big help IMO.

Well as another fan of Halo I hope someone does make it and that it would be genuinely okay. Or realistically it would appeal only to fanboys, it would have terrible acting, a lousy script and make you feel as though your brain is shrinking as you watch it.

Most videogame movies are shit. And most movies are based on books. Planescape: Torment could work as a movie, because it's technically a book.
