I was travelling home from school just today when I was approached by a complete stranger, who introduced himself as "Skidz" (The way he said it somehow makes me interpret the final consonant as a "z") and we began talking. His facial demeanour suggested "junkie" something fierce, but he seemed nice enough anyway, so I casually continued the conversation.

"Skidz" had apparently run across a bit of luck in his time; from what I could gather from our discourse, he gets by entirely from charitable people offering him things for free. I was, of course, skeptical to say the least, but my stop was coming up soon, so I just played along.

Our conversation eventually lead to gaming and consoles, whereupon "Skidz" offered to get me a Nintendo Wii, absolutely free, no strings attached, sort of thing (he also indicated he could get any console for me for free). Suspecting that such an offer was just a little too good to be true, I respectfully declined, bid my new bestest, best friend adieu and departed with all due haste.

In retrospect, I'm not entirely all sure it was such a bad offer to begin with, however if television has taught me anything, it's that people who actually manage to come across as though their name would have several more z's than it would normally do are to be watched carefully, preferably out of firing range.

My question to you is thus; is it safe to accept a gaming console from a complete stranger you meet on the bus? If not, why would you think that this is not, if fact, the deal of a lifetime?

Note: I apologize for the title of this topic, if you found it a little misleading. It caught yout attention though, didn't it?!

As said above, it could have been stolen. It also could have been rigged to explode in your face. >_>

If it was loaded with coke and he was trying to ditch it, well, you have a wii loaded with coke. Also receiving stolen goods is still illegal, if I'm not mistaken.

Stolen or worse.... It could cause you to have dealings with the most vile of filth... Stupid monkeys ruin everything! He probably just wanted to steal your cheese while you weren't looking anyways.

I would have taken the Wii and asked for a new 360 (mine was recently "Curbstomped") and a few games to go with it.

EDIT: I should mention I deal with "drug addicts" on a regular basis and have many I consider friends so this really isn't that strange to me.

No such thing as a free console. I don't care what he said, there were strings attached.

meh, I would go for it but if anything shady came along like he asked for my address I'd say nah I'm not comfortable doing that.

I don't even like strange people asking me directions. Let alone give me a free console.

Should've arranged to meet him in a very public place for him to hand it over, shopping centre for example.

He obviously wanted something from you. That is the only way I can see someone offering you a "free" console. I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up with the console but asked you to do him a favor first or asked for a way to reach you. I think you saved yourself alot of trouble by turning him down.

well, it'd destroy the wii, so that wouldn't much worse than actually owning a wii

I don't want anyone giving me a wii, they can't pay me enough.
But yeah, I think you did the right thing, it was obviously stolen, and if they found him, they would learn who he gave it to, and that would lead them home.
