Alot missing from the list, but I guess you can't have it all, out of that list, I'd have to go with SYL seen them at download a few years ago, it was epic. Though if I could pick my own, it would be Opeth at the moment.

have you even visited the site? I would love to get a link where it says that nu metal aint metal.
Search for any Nu-Metal band and you won't find anything, and look in the forums and they'll tell you it's not metal.
it took me 2 seconds to find 6 examples of nu metal bands on the site:
1. Bethrayer Thrash Metal (early), Nu-metal (later)
2. Epitome of Frail Nu-Metal (early), Death Metal/Hardcore (later)
3. Extrema Thrash Metal (early), Nu Metal (later)
4. Mechanix (Pol) Thrash Metal (early), Nu Metal (later)
5. Pin Drop Violence Groove/Metalcore/Nu Metal
6. Synthetic Breed Groove Death Metal/Nu Metal

None of those are truly metal bands in the truest sense of the word. The closest would be Children of Bodom, but they're even a bit too nu-metalish (nu-metal, despite the name and deplorable spelling, is NOT true metal).

The list is lacking even one of the following bands:

Slayer
Metallica
Mastodon
Amebix
Motorhead
Machine Head
Black Sabbath (wtf?)

I realize personal opinion is a valid reason for omitting some of those bands, but to not even include one? I mean the first 5 Black Sabbath albums are the definition of metal. These are all mall metal bands, honestly.

EDIT: Dragonforce is not a good band, they're for super technical wank-geeks, and the speed up their studio recordings to sound inhumanly fast. Epically un-metal.

Sorry for the preachy and long-winded first post, guys.
Agreed, this thread needs more of those :D.

Nu Metal IS metal because it follows metal styles and rythyms. But it's Popular Metal, so it's never gonna get acceptance from the hardcore unpopular metalheads. It's never gonna be the underground scene that you love but that doesn't make it any less a valid form of expresion.

I never said it was a "less valid form of expression" or that it's bad music (Disturbed is one of my favourite bands) but it's not metal.

Nightwish is pretty good. The woman from Fly Leaf has a good set of lungs though.

Well talk about a good range, although a bit narrow.

As I Lay Dying, Nightwish, and Children of Bodom from that list anyway.

Nu-metal is metal in that it is loud and sometimes fast. However, it caters more to the goth set than anyone else. Nu-metal was a term first coined because no one knew what to call up and coming bands in the mid-90s such as Rage Against the Machine. the term came to mean bands like Korn and Disturbed, the latter of which actually do some metal SONGS. However, the vast majority of the bands and the catalogs thereof fall under the umbrella of alternative rock. The closest band that falls under the nu-metal label would be something like System of a Down, which even then, are a stretch from other current bands that actually are metal bands. Listening to, say, Mastodon, and then Disturbed, you'll see very little equality in both the subject matter, technicality, and intelligence of the music. Even the marketing, album art, and fanbase are like comparing apples to oranges.

It's not a matter of popularity or how "hardcore" the music is, it's honestly about what the band is actually going for.

Why does this list have no Death Metal, or Prog Metal, or Black Metal, or Doom Metal, or Power Metal, or Gothic Metal, or Thrash Metal, or Industrial Metal, or Folk Metal, or... uhm... Liquid Metal.

But seriously, that is a pretty short list for a genre as varied as Metal. At least have one band from each sub-genre. And some of those bands (Disturbed, Slipknot) are debatable as to their metallness.
As far as favorite band: Nevermore. Brutal Progressive Thrash Metal.

i must admit that i didnt find those bands listed as nu metal, disturbed was listed as trash metal, slipknot was listed as a crossover, and iwont continue this quarrel, i dont realy care, but i still mean that Nu Metal is metal.

Dillinger Escape Plan

Those guys are brilliant, 43% Burnt, Baby's First Coffin. Plus, any band that has Mike Patton sing for them on an EP after the original lead singer leaves just shows how awesome they are.

Also, I have not heard, nor did I know the term Nu Metal existed for like 10 years now.

I'll much rather headbang to The Doors than any of those...
As for my favorite metal (Death metal and Thrash metal bands) bands right now:

Legion of the Damned
Carcass
Obituary
Demolition Hammer
Unleashed
