Poll: A poll for the best Video game series ever

I had to go with Other here, The Final Fantasy series is some of my favorite but I'll go with another kind of games, my favorite are the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series.

Halo, I've said it once and odss are I'll be forced to say it again when someone looks at me innocently expressing my opinion and has decided to somehow take that as a personal insult against him and therefore belch at me with pompus obscenities about how wrong I am or just flat out cry at me like a little baby about an argument that he clealry started, is the best game series I've ever played.
I'm amazed, honestly. Two years ago on this list Halo would be SOARING ahead of the rest, everyone would be writing Halo this and Halo that and it would be intensly popular, these days thanks to the annoying yet strangley hilarious fanboy hatred no one will ever stand up and proclaim they like Halo for fear of getting the insulting drivel that I get given by the bucketload.
To quote gametrailers: "only the people who WANT to hate Halo, can honestly say they hate Halo."

Seriously Halo hands down, favourite series.
You know what? It isn't even ten years old yet, neither is it's platform, and already it's one of the most recognised franchises in the Biz.
Gotta count for something.

My one question to you is how you can consider a game good simply based on popularity/recognition, etc. Many excellent games don't sell, you know.

Yeah I know that just because a game doesn't sell a million copies doesn't mean it's shit (I mean I love Otogi and except for my immediate friends no ones ever heard of it) but my argument was that games that are incredibily popular are not usually bad, usually they are popular because they are good.

I agree. Or that they were "mediocre" or "alright" and had very good marketing behind them. I will never say Halo is a bad game, I just don't think it is the shining gem that some other people think it is. I suppose it boils down to personal taste for the story, or the presentation, neither of which thrilled me. Halo is by no means bad, but why do you think it is the best series ever?

Honestly it might have a nostalgia that chamrs me too it, Halo 1 was the first game I ever played as a kid and it blew my mind, I only played bits of it though. Halo 2 I then first played co-op with a friend and had to learn the story as I went along giving it a new flavour to most others plus there are so many good memories of Halo 2 multiplayer.
Finally Halo 3 was the one game I had been most excited about in 2007 and all my friends got together to play it the night it was released, it was an EVENT.
If it wasn't for Halo I never would have met the girl of my dreams either.

Maybe it isn't a shining gem in the long run but no other series in game history has ever given me such fond memories. So I guess that's why, I find the series lovable in a sort of sentimental type way.
I can acknowledge that other games may be superiour like Bioshock, but they will never compar to the level of affection I have for this series.
