I don't know if this should be here or in the Politics section so forgive me if it is wrong.

No. I also think your should expand your OP as to why you're asking.

I consider myself English, but I'm perfectly fine with being called British because that's also true.

Where's the ''I don't give a damn'' option?
Seriously, I don't mind one way or the other. If I click No, it sounds like I prefer to be called British, if I click Yes it sounds like I don't like being called British.
I don't mind either way,

Probably not, I'm part English, Welsh and Irish anyway so calling myself British is just easier to say, also I don't put much stock in maintaining my 'national identify' as some people would call it.

Also I like most English people tend to use both terms interchangeably so they both carry pretty much the same meaning to me.

I'm British and I see no point in claiming differently. Sure I'm English as well, but all English people fit into the broader category of being British. Plus, I don't really identify with any specific place.

If I'm being specific, I'm English, but I have no qualms about saying I'm British.

Afterall, that's what I am.

Nope. Sure I'm English, technically, but being called British really isn't an issue to me in the slightest.

I am asking the Question because a lot of people in other countries call anyone from the UK "English", I am Welsh and I hate being called English I also have a few Scottish friends who feel the same, all I want is that Wales and Scotland are given the respect and recognition they deserve and that people stop insulting us, our history and our culture by calling us English all the time, Wales and Scotland were actually countries ruled by our own Royal families hundreds of years before England ever was, the Tudor Royal Family that includes Henry VIII and Elizabeth 1st were decended from Welsh Royalty.

It is about time people seen that just because Wales and Scotland have had English rule forced upon them that UK ? England, but as long as the UK is ruled by the English the culture and history of the Welsh and Scottish will continue to be repressed.

Fe godwn ni eto - We will rise again.

No, I see myself as British. Sure, I'm English as well, but we are all better of together as Brits than apart as 'English', 'Scottish' and 'Welsh'.

Guess what, if you Scotland and Wales wanted to be independent, both populations would have voted for it a long time ago.

As it stands, Scotland and Wales wish to be part of the UK, so please, less of the nationalistic rhetoric.

I question the validity of any of the so called "referendums" on independance seeing as everyone of them is run and controlled by the English Goverment.

Tin foil hat time!

There's no grand conspiracy, the UK is stronger together than apart.

People need to get over the past and concentrate on the future.

Well, given Scots/Irish heritage and born in England British describes me best.

Questioning referendums? Well then you don't trust the system at all and will never be satisfied with anything less than your own personal vision of what should happen.

When Plaid Cymru and Scottish National parties are included in the so called "British Goverment" then I will be happy, how can it be a true British Goverment when nearly everyone in it is English.

I know it's slightly worthless for a passport (which I'd keep as British), but I'd like to just have a nationality of Terran or Earthian. Countries are a very arbitrary thing - there aren't any lines on the earth splitting it up, and I've never felt any particular affinity to any one country.

See, that's more due to ignorance than being disrespectful. I'm sure most people would be quite contrite once you explained the 'British but not English' point... *shrug*

Though here, I'm with Daystar Clarion, insomuch that it suits (broadly) everyone's interests to remain as part of the UK. Besides, your history is hardly repressed, that's stretching it, while I admit that your traditional culture is... in any event, the dying out of a culture is hardly anything new and it's continued to happen in ostensibly civilised countries. In fact, Alsatian culture (the, as far as Alsatians were concerned, happy compromise between French and German) was completely wiped out by the French in the 1920's. Silesian culture hardly exists now as well. Granted, neither example held sovereignty in their own right, but one should note that both of these regions have always been more populous than Wales, or at least on a par.

OT: I hardly identify as being English for anything except cricket.

Well I'm half English and half Scottish, so British is all I've got, because the preceding would look pretty stupid on my passport.

And judgung by the fact we have a flamewar going already, I'd say this definitely belongs in R&P.

You mean things like having a Scotsman as Prime minister? As far as i know the regional assemblies where set up so those groups could have more of a say in their areas and not be marginalised in Westminster.
