SR3 was okay; it did have a pretty big (but not very elaborate) city with a lot of different toys to help you kill & maim a lot of different targets. If that's what you wanted, it's perfect.
I prefer SR2 because the map felt like it had more thought put into it which makes those random battles more fun, it also had (or did it just seem to have?) a greater variety of side missions and activities.

I have to say, while I looked forward to SR3 more than I did GTAV, I now look forward to GTAV more than SR4.

It's like the Fallout 3/New Vegas VS; it depends on what you want in a game.

Never played Saints Row 2, don't much care to. I'm a bit of a sucker for sandbox games, so I found Saints Row 3 quite addictive. The only thing I didn't like however, was when it sacrificed it's self referential and borderline satirical humour in favour of saying "HUE HUE HUE LOOK GUYS THIS SHOP'S CALLED RIM JOBS HUE HUE HUE".

The purple dildo was perhaps the most sad thing I've ever seen in a game. I'd rather a game didn't even try to be funny than insult the intelligence of its audience with shit like that.

You want to play SR2. It's a much smarter, more serious game. And the gameplay is less shit-tier, which helps.

I think the people who hate SR3 are just opposed to change, I don't really know any other game that offers what SR3 did and now what SR4 offers a mix in of Prototype and that other game I can't recall the name of it's going to certainly be an interesting game with unmatched sandbox fun also co-op.SR3's co-op was insanely fun and I didn't even play story with friends just random BS

I'm really not sure what everyone is talking about SR2 having a good story, I thought the story was goofy at best while the world around it was even goofier. SR3 taking that to the next level was a solid idea that I enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, I like me some good stories but I don't have it written down as a requirement when the game itself is balls to the wall fun (see Earth Defense Force 2017 to see what I mean). I mean the thing I sold people on SR2 was the Insurance Fraud minigame and the cesspool truck not the story, they bought it on that and said it was an amazing game and never once brought up the story because again I think it was forgettable.

I don't know honestly I think if you're looking for story in SR3 you're insane, GTA4 had that down far more and that game just bored me to death. Yes the story was good but it seemed like the game was just opposed to you going around having fun with your retarded cellphone ringing you up every 4 seconds to do something you don't want to, then you lose friendship for refusing. Seriously the cellphone was 60% of the reason I hated GTA IV, the rest being most of the missions were fairly same-y with the exception of the amazing bank robbery one.
