Well right now all my utilities and cable and internet are included in my rent. as for after this I'll probably just pay the expense and forgo cable/satellite all together.

And I really hate that unlimited doesn't mean unlimited and that evenings apparently start at 9pm there are times I really really miss Europe

Not sure how reliable this is, It was one of the first things that came up on google.
If that's your source, then after a cursory glance at it, I noticed that it said at the top "published 4 months ago" which would put right around the time of CRTC's initial proposal of this sort that got shut down by the Harper Government.

You can get unlimited you just have to not be an idiot. You have to go with a smaller service provider which gives better rates, possibly unlimited bandwidth and a good speed. Or you could go with the major providers which charge 2-3 times as much and is not unlimited.
Though that's true now, thanks to the current state of things that may not last much longer. The smaller ISPs are renting the lines and access from Bell, Shaw, Rogers and Telus, but right now they're getting gouged on the price their paying for access (which was the plan when Bell went to the CRTC last year) so the profit they make from unlimited plans are drying up.

Hell, there's even cases of small ISPs being strong armed out of business by the major companies. Go to openmedia.ca and watch the vid of OnCall vs. Telus for an example.

My internet company already only allows me so many gigs per month. I went over it once purely by watching netflix every day and downloading two movies off the PSN.
Now I have 90GB/month, and I don't seem to go over. But if the costs make it even more than it is now... :| I'll just download everything at school lol.

I've heard quite a few differing sources, last week on the news channel I watch (Global news) it sounded like they were just going ahead with it.
Now after doing a little research and reading some of the comments here, it sounds like it might not actually happen.

Sorry about jumping the gun here guys looks like we're not getting screwed over, not yet at least.

If it happens I'm going to be here a lot less. A LOT LESS! AND THAT MAKES ME SAD!

The internet is incredibly important, not only for my recreational life but for my chosen field. If the fees on data use are passed, it will become more affordable to simply snailmail or courier large files used during the editing process of a film rather than having it go through Skype or Dropbox or what have you.

I certainly could live with a lot less internet (I know I'm here too often) but I don't want to and I will fight to have things stay status quo.

My question is:would it be worse than the costs of Australia and New Zealand?
