Have you ever tried getting an Achievement with a friend only to end up alienated said friend in the process? Or something similar to that affect?

Example: When I first got my Xbox 360 one of the first Online games I played was Left 4 dead. While playing I met this dude and chick who helped me play and taught how to play since I was both a newb at Left 4 dead AND Xbox live.

While playing and chatting the subject of the "Jesus room" came up and I asked what it was. So later on they showed me what it was and how it worked. They cleared a straight path for me to the helicopter and asked if I "had any questions"...to which I answered "Yeah something appeared on my screen...what?s 'nothing special"

After that they raged caused I got it by cheating while they had to do it the honest way.

No. I honestly don't care about achievements or trophies so the I've never felt a competitive edge.

I've alienated LOTS of people by doing what I typically do while playing online: cursing like a sailor.

One guy I knew once tried to get Seriously 2.0 ASAP. I couldn't play anything with him because he just wanted that one achievement.

I have a friendly rivalry going with one friend over who can get more achievements.

I have Team Fortress 2 for PC, while he only has it for Xbox 360. I'm winning by an insurmountable margin now.

Wrath of the Lich King: The Immortal

Generates nerd rage the likes of which the world has never seen before. Guildmates go from friends to incompetent assholes in ten seconds flat.

Edit: the same goes for "He Feeds on Your Tears" and "Tribute to Immortality."

Never really alienated a friend over xbox, alienated plenty of people I don't care about though.
Pretty much this. Any friends that I play with are going to be in the same room, so I can hit them when they screw up on me.

Achievements like this ruin the whole achievement system. Pointless achievements that require no skill just insane hours put into a game that not everyone can do. Just a cheap way of getting people to play the game more. OT: I roped a friend into playing Gears 2 with me when he didn't really want to but I don't think he really minded, it only took two nights. I'd do the same for him anyway. So to answer the question no.

I fell out with two people because they dedicated all of their free time to getting achievments on TF2 and L4D2.

I basically froze out my friend, because he was a 1st class achievment hunter. ANYTHING for an achievment. So, yeah...now I have no friends, but I'm better off without anyway.

Really? People seem to find it endearing when I do it. Of course, my sailor is from Shakespearean times, but still.

I compare people to decomposing piles of animal waste quite regularly.

I remember playing 4 player co-op on Halo 3, a friend of mine was trying to get the achievements to score over "x" points on each mission with competitive scoring on. He was fixated on it, i how ever was not.

On one of the flood heavy missions i got my hands on the grav hammer and charged off ahead of everyone and killed everything i saw. As a result i was the only person who killed enough to get the achievement and he did not, so he screamed and shouted at me for about 30 seconds about apparently being a selfish achievement hogging whore. I simply had a hammer... and wanted to hit things.

Nope, not really, I did however end up a bit distant with a friend who was beaten in a fighting game by my Girlfriend... and of course the fact that I always reminded him about that. I should stop....maybe
