I am consistently always in the middle of yet another playthrough of my favourite saga: Baldur's Gate.
Always.

Yes, sometimes, thanks to the miracle of emulators and the end of copyrights. Older games I still play on my PC with the emulator, such as the original Pokemon games, and then the PC and Xbox 360 give me plenty of fun time with the newer stuff. A lot of old games are much better anyway, like Tetris (although I really want to get Tetris DS) and things like the original Sonic and Mario games. I also kept back some old PS1 games that I still play (mostly Crash and Spyro) when I have access to the PS2 (i.e. when I'm home from university).

Ah, another faithful believer!

Come, let us go rescue Dynaheir from the clutches of the evil gnolls and give evil the boot-kicking it deserves. Minsc and Boo to Victory!

If you own the whole Saga like I do (BG1 + Exp and BG2 + Exp), then may I recommend getting the BGComplete MOD?
It takes both games and expansions and combines them into one massive game in the BG2 enginge, with BG2 spells and Character classes and kits. Want to be a shapeshifter druid running around Candlekeep? Here's the chance! It makes the whole experience seamless, and it's a must have for fans of the series (Especially when combined with the Widescreen MOD to get super high resolutions!).

I freaking love this game.

If nothing else, it's nice just to crack open an old game and revel in the nostagia of being 10 and super excited about your first Game Boy again =)

I always find myself coming back to Ocarina of time at some point in any given year, Paper Mario usually finds its way into my gaming schedule too.

Come to think of it I've had Dwarf Fortress games continually for about 18 months now as well , so yes, classics all the way.

No matter how much of a CoD4 buff I am, I can never keep myself from dusting off the old SNES and playing Kirby:SuperStar [The one with Metaknights revenge <3]

Yeah, sometimes I do like to just put all my newer games to one-side for a while and play some of my older ones, for that nice nostalgic feeling.

I don't know if people consider it 'Old' yet, but considering how fast humanity is progressing with games, I'd suppose it would be a fair assumption to call the original KoTOR a classic by now.

I played KoTOR 2 when I was younger, and loved it so when KoTOR 1 was released on STEAM recently, how could I say no? :)

All the time. I'll sit at home some nights, have a cold beverage and fire up some of my old Lucasarts games. I recently downloaded Starfox 64 to play again as well. Why the hell was there never a proper sequel to that? The game is freaking badass.

*Checks the shelf*
*Sees BG1&2+expansions to both*
*Re-reads your post*

I think I just creamed my pants.

BG1 in widescreen.... *happy drool*

Google, here I come! MusthavemusthavehurryhurryHURRY!

Thank you for making my day :D I had no idea such greatness as the mod you described existed.

Hmm, I guess I now know what I shall be doing this evening... :)

Diablo 2 is still better than most MMOs today. And Warlords Battlecry 2 is still good.

It's not just about nostalgia for me, I think old games were largely better. They were simpler, there wasn't so many variables involved with making a good game and they were harder to screw up.
Oh, believe me. Older games have their faults too. It's the haze of nostalgia that lets us remember the triumphs and forget the horrors. Do you know how many really old games I played that flat out did not work? You'd get to a certain level and the game would freeze or reload or just die. There's a reason ET is remembered as one of the worst games ever made. Standards were lax back then, companies could get away with developing games (especially movie tie-ins) in about a week. No beta testing, no making sure the game worked. Things like that happen occasionally today (I think many of us remember the Bully fiasco), but the internet and the gaming community won't allow a severe fault to go unfixed. And in the Bully example, Rockstar had a patch out quickly. ET was never fixed.

Of course, I'm just being devil's advocate right now. I still play Sonic and Tails 2 and Baldur's Gate on a regular basis. I also picked up the Sonic Genesis pack for the 360 and relived my frustration with Ecco the Dolphin 2. So I have a fondness for the good games of yesteryear, but they weren't all good, and I wouldn't even say they were better than games today. I've probably wasted more time on Mass Effect than any other game in existence, and that's a title that couldn't have been made ten years ago.

Ocarina of Time...all the time. I think I've done the 3 heart challenge about 5 times in the past year.

Hell, I still play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Let's put it this way. LoZ: ALTTP is to me what Silent Hill 2 is to Yahtzee.

The Legend of Zelda (NES), Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES), Secret of Mana (SNES), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Final Fantasy VII (PC)... Just a few that always will get me yet another run of fun gameplay, no matter how many times I've played them before!

Fun factoid: I gave my friend an official Strategy Guide for FF VII last year and he was sooo happy. Seriously, he's been playing the game at least once a year since it's release in 1998 ;)
