Define WOW Killer?

Anyway, why does anyone need to Kill WOW? Cant it just like live in a different house, where occasionally you go over and visit with muffins but never really stay too long? :D

There are enough PC users to play both! Not just both! I mean AoC and Warhammer are popular in their own right also. FFXI is still very popular.

So aion online has been called the "killer of WoW" in for many reasons. I've played both and personally i think Aion could pull it off. I really dont care if Aion is almost a mirror image of WoW, i feel it takes what WoW created and then fixes all its flaws >8] I think its about time somebody stepped up to the plate and told WoW to go **** itself. though i may just be talking through my teeth because i'm a graphics whore (i.e. i likey teh pretty screenies) and Aion is runnin with the help of crytek. So anyone else think Aion Can pull it off?
Consider this; If they can pull of a 25 man - 40 man raid system with crytek engine.. How many people have machines which could run that even on lowest detail? Aion is the mirror image of WoW as you've said but I seriously doubt anything running on crytek will kill WoW.

And anyway; it's a new game I doubt they have a nice server set up like blizzard, Nor will they handle maintenance quite as well (I would like to think anyway)
ok consider this. on the HIGHEST setting I.E. Maxed the hell out, (yes that does include AA and all the eye candy) running at at 1600x1050. I run aion exactly like that...maxed the hell out. i'm only running on a 9600GTM, i played the beta right at the beginning and there we HUNDREDS of people on screen, using spells, killing thing, flying. I had zero problems, even running on my low level hardware. no problems whatsoever even with the gfx maxed out and a TON of people on screen.
i suppose what i'm saying is that even though it looks pretty it is well optimized.

No.

Oh sorry, no one word answers.

No way, Not happening, etc.

Wow at this point is too big too be killed by anything but itself, I think other MMO's are going to have to shoot for second for the foreseeable future because with the way Cataclysm is looking and what I've heard, WoW is only going to go further.

No matter how good another MMO is, people are already invested into WoW. They are unlikely to leave so other games are already fighting an uphill battle.

And if a new MMO brings in a lot of new gameplay elements (like Warhammer Online), all WoW has to do is make their own version of it. (Which they did)

Also, all MMOs are pretty much the same. Once someone finally gets tired of WoW, they are probably tired of ALL MMOs in general.

Oh U!

I'm still running WoW on a integrated gfx card or my Nvidia 6600 GEforce LE. I would hate to see how that deals with it.

Oh U!

I'm still running WoW on a integrated gfx card or my Nvidia 6600 GEforce LE. I would hate to see how that deals with it.

It requires a Nvidia 5800.....and actually Recommends a 6600. Which are both quite old and quite cheap.

Sure the 9600 is not that old and does have 512mb of Vram and does support dx10
however do remember it is a M...or for those of you who are computer illiterate a Mobile card.
Which of course means its not nearly as strong as a 9600GT in which you can put in a pc.

AND this 9600 was runnin everything MAX with hundreds of people on screen with zero flaws.
hunderds on screen is a bit of an extreme amount even by MMO standards.

I.E.

its not often you will be running with hundreds of people fighting on screen.
AND if you ARE running with that and a lower level gfx card. you don't have to run it at max with such a high res. even just putting down the res would help massivly and allow access for much lower end machines. if you put everything to lowest the game STILL looks WAY better then WoW AND a "low end" machine should have little to no problem running it.

(i would also like to note that the Reccomended gfx card for WoW is actually
Recommended: 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability with 128 MB VRAM Such as an ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT class card or better)

Now lets do math kiddies

Aion Recommended 6600
Wow Recommended 7200
----------------------
1400
OMG is that a WHOLE DIFFERENCE IN SERIES :O

Hawt damn, i'm pretty sure WoW wants a whole new series then aion. O shat!

I dunno. I think with WoW's next expansion, they will take away a lot of it's player base because I think it was kinda trying to do what Warhammer Online did, but most people are pansies and hate PVP (ok, I admit that's a bit of a wierd statement to make in relation to on screen fighting but it's true).

Either way I dislike bother of them because... well... massive random grind. never played either of them, if I was going to play an MMO I'd play one that didn't require me to farm ridiculous amounts of crap to get a special whatever the fuck potion, or whatever. That's just bloody irritating.

And as far as I can tell through some videos I hvae atch Aions soul-suck farming techniques on fish.. fauna... and anything else in the world, which is pretty funny, is integral to leveling up. Fuck that. I want to play the game, not mine ore and flowers and fish.

Blizzard has about taken the gameplay mechanics/design which World of Warcraft is based upon, to their limits. The currently established template for MMORPGs has seemingly found its pinnacle in WoW. WoW is too big, and too strong to be dethroned by imitations or those games too scared to stray off the path (looking at you ToR. Love what you're doing with MMO storytelling, too bad you don't have the balls to try something different with gameplay). If there is to be a "next big thing", then I would imagine it will be coming from a completely fresh/different take on MMO structure and gameplay.

What MMO have you been playing? Sure you can level up to a certain point without farming or crafting in just about any MMO, but, if you don't have a source of money, I doubt you will be able to get enough gear to survive at higher levels. All MMO require spending some time working on a boring task for money at some point or another. (Although some money based missions are nice to break from it too).

EXCLAMATION POINTS AND QUESTION MARKS ARE SO COOL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
No.
And anyway, you know what?
There's room for more than one MMO on the market.
Yeah.

I know, it's weird, right?
you forgot dots .... dots make you seem like that awesome mature guy in any anime ... the one that seems to know everything ... and always talks with his eyes closed .... and every few episodes he'll mutter something like "so this is **insert stuff here**" .... so this is aion ... maybe it can actually pull it off ... this could get interesting

... can't believe you forgot dots!!! **kicks a random table and storms out** ...... so this is baboon

but as for aion .. i don't go near those epic rpgs in fear of my spare time and very soul being consumed

There were at least 15 MMOs that were the supposed "EQ killers" before WoW came out and decimated it's numbers. Even if Aion manages to dent WoW it won't kill it.

To bad the bigger they are the harder they fall doesn't count here.
In the case of once "hit" MMO's, they usually taper off and die in a forgotten corner somewhere. The only bits of news you may hear on these sort of things is perhaps a small blurb about servers finally closing down, or the games last "Hurrah!" with some last stab at a long overdue expansion before the game inevitably succumbs to the case of the former example.

Anyway, don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen to WoW.

Well, I was playing Shadowbane first of all. I don't think I farmed much during my few years of playing that heavily. I did the trial of Warhammer online and liked it. GOing to wait a bit before subscribing, hear it's kinda buggy later on. Seems like you can PVP from start to finish pretty much, so that'd be my reason to get it :)

So whether or not Aion will have more players than WOW, I still find it much more fun to play. And in my opinion, that beats WOW for me. Again, I am not concerned if it does not have the same number of players. Being fun is all that matters to me.
