I think the demo is pretty great after you've put a few hours practise in. I may be wrong but some people on other sites who claim it's crap arn't giving it a chance and a few even commented they only played 1 or 2 games. i agree that they should of released a team based mode but it is fairly cool to see 2 aliens circling each other than junping in for an attack.

advice(mainly as aliens)
don't over use trophy kill (it'll get you killed)
destroy the lights
use the ceilings
don't button mash in combat!
that's all for now:)

I like it. I have hope that the demo is only that... a demo. If the annoying matchmaking stays, I won't touch multiplayer.

I have managed one game. Apparently only one other person is online. I have PS3, live in Great Britain, ad if anyone could explain WHY this is happening, they win interweb cookies.
I played as the Xenomorph, and enjoyed it a LOT, especialy assasination and getting sick from beig upside down, but the Predator I fought seemed way underpowered. He just ran at me, trying to be invisible with his claws...
Whoever decided to release a multiplayer demo instead of an offline tutorial, and a demo where 8 people have to be online, is a fool.
However, I am still going to buy this game and love it till the disk melts.

Tip for Marines: The corner is your friend, and places with high ceilings. Aliens have a tough time getting past the motion tracker when they have to drop down to you instead of a pounce and a claw. Also stay in lighted areas.

Tip for Aliens: If you get the jump on someone, but think an enemy may be around, don't trophy kill, your Heavy Melee will stun and give you a chance to get a slash or two in, usually resulting in a kill. Get used to being on ceilings, as only another alien will be able to get the jump on you effectively.

Tip for Predators: Aliens can see you, even if your invisible. Cloaking is only for human fooling, even then your not completely invisible, I cannot stress that enough. Generally though you will hear the hissing of an Alien as he sees an enemy. Soo as soon as you hear hissing, pop up your Alien finder vision and take a look around. Whilst everything is a near black grey, humans can still be seen easily with a little concentration. So far heatvision doesn't seem very useful.

Deathmatch is the worst possible style of multiplayer to showcase this game. Team deathmatch on the otherhand would rawk my sawks

I didn't like it but i'm not surprised as i hate and despise multiplayer. Gimme a single player demo even if it's just one species so i can make a decision on it as it stands i won't bother with it until i see some reviews. I only hope the single player isn't a tacked on will this do effort like MW 2 and ODST.

In a good low latency game with lots of players it is great, in my opinion. I will admit that the melee combat does feel very clunky and a bit clumsy but it is still fun. I got my head around the xeno and it kicks ass. I have yet to play marine though. I think team death match would be a lot better to play and more balanced. It makes no sense that the same species attack each other. I think they should have included a different game mode and one more map in the demo.

a lot of people don't notice the alien can actually sprint so i've seen a lot of people who just don't "get" the alien, running down corridors on the floor at slow speeds.
Wait a minute the alien can sprint? Damn, here's me running around like an asstard at two miles an hour. I don't think there is button mapping on the PC demo so I don't know what all of the keys on my keyboard do yet.

I'd really like to try this game in some kind of team mode.

I mean, even with people co-ordinating teams I saw some really interesting tactics being used: The marines would all camp a room with their backs to the wall, meaning anything that came into that room got torn to pieces by them. This suddenly turns the Marines into a wall of guns, nothing could touch them untill the aliens reacted by having one wave of drones distract them while the others came down through a hole in the roof and savaged them.

This game has a lot of potential for awesome tactical play, mostly because it subverts a lot of the elements of FPS's we've gotten used to.
Yeah I agree. It has the sort of innovation that Splinter Cell Chaos Thory's multiplayer had. I just like the fact that there is nothing quite like it out there. I'm going to wait for reviews to see if the matchmaking issues don't affect it and just hope it's well received. It has so much potential.

It was pretty disappointing. Incredibly imbalanced in favour of the Marine, and the Predator is the least useful species (Motion sensor for the humans and the alien ability to see everything in an outline makes their invisibility only a temporary shield from instant death. Also, everything takes about five melee jabs to kill, unless you use the Grab move, is an instakill, which means that melee combat is pointless. As a side note, the Deathmatch mode was the worst possible they could have picked)

Can't tell you because I can't fucking play it. 10 minutes searching for a fucking game and STILL not finding one? Bullshit, plain and simple. I wasted my time downloading the damn thing

They are releasing a patch for the demo on the console version.

oh yes my friend, it's bound to Q. left shift gives you a slightly clarified screen for more targeted and longer range jumping, R is a hiss (funny story, i spent about a minute stalking a predator who was in turn stalking a marine across the beams in the main room. i stabebd the pred through the chest, his body tumbled down next to the marine and i hissed from the shadows...the marine ran like frickin' mad!) and tapping middle mouse just causes you to unlatch from whatever surface you're on and plummet, great for dropping without looking, say if you want to avoid incoming lead.
Excellent, thanks for the advice. The xenomorph is my favourite by far.

As a fan of the two original PC games I was extremely disappointed.

The Marines:

Can't duck/crouch!?
Have a ridiculous auto-aim (seriously, they rule the game).
Can melee (as if a human could knock back a Predator/Alien).
*Ducking has no place in this game, since Marines are the only species to have primarily ranged attacks, so there is no need for using cover.
*The autoaim compensates for how much recoil and spread the guns have, I didn't notice anything wrong with it.
*The melee attack actually gives the Marines a chance in combat, if it weren't there you'd have no chance of surviving a fight with an alien or predator.
The Aliens:

Have to button mash to kill.
Can't jump/pounce very far.
Don't have many places to attack from (no vents on the level they gave).
*I find well-timed tail attacks work far better than claws.
*Use focus mode to pounce further.
*Lol wut? It's only one level, plus the ceiling is fantastic for that anyway.
The Predators:

Can't equip weapons, as in you can't choose a weapon and walk around with it, you always have your claws out and if you want to use a weapon you have to equip it for a single use before automatically equipping your claws again.
The claws are your main weapon, the other weapons are more like powerups, though I havn't played as Predators very much yet.
Like I said, this is based from someone who played the two PC versions. Which this game is supposedly based upon. I expected a modern, up to date version of a past series.

This is Fallout 3 compared to Fallout 1 and 2.

The combat feels clunky and has no fluidity.
Since the other two arguments have already been dealt with by DannyBoy, I'll have a bash at defending this one :3

The reason for the Predator not starting out with his extra weapons is to balance the classes out. If the Predator were given, say, his shoulder-cannon, he could simply cloak and hide in one corner of the map, switching between his different vision-types until he saw a target he could lock onto. The Alien could never shoot him or get close enough, and the Marine could never see him on his motion tracker or in the flesh, since he's cloaked.

It's just for balance, really. Not that it's perfect, but for a demo I think it's well thought out.
That isn't what I said at all. I said they can't equip weapons, not that they don't start with them. It is impossible once you have picked up a weapon to have it as your primary weapon until it runs out, you can only use it once you equip it each time you wish to use it, which makes combat extremely awkward.

You have also probably not played the two PC versions that this is supposed to be similar to. All races had classes and so they all had different weapons to compensate. The sniper predator had no heavy weapons, the close combat one no long range etc. etc.

My issue is that this game was supposedly a revamp of the series and it's nothing like it at all.

Considering they made them so damn well before it makes no sense to make this into yet another typical console shooter.

I played both AVP and AVP2, I fucking loved the multiplayer on AVP2.

So, what you wanted was "AVP2 with better graphics"? That's kind of uninspired don't you think?

I mean, this is an up to date version of the series, they've taken the premise of the previous games and modernized it, and I think they've made a really distinct and interesting game here.

Well first of all I can't play it but I heard the demo was mediocre and basically just a showcase of the different races.

BUT

The demo is only FFA deathmatch. In the actual game they'll have 2 other game types. In one, one player starts out as an Alien. The rest are humans. Whenever a human is killed by an Alien, he switches to the Alien team. Like infection in Halo 3(which I loved, so I'm looking forward to this.)

In the other mode, One player starts as a Predator, and the rest are humans. The Predator will hunt for the humans while the humans hunt him. If a human kills the predator, he gets to be the predator next round. Similar to Pitch Black in Assault on Dark Athena (also loved that.)
