Most definately.

I mean, in all the vastness of space, its very hard to believe that Earth is the only planet with life

By saying "believe in" aliens, people make them sound like some form of deity. You don't need to believe in them, the fact is, they almost certainly exist somewhere. There's just too much Universe for there to be only one place with life.
Hmm, although I COMPLETELY agree with you, aliens ARE a belief. Just how no one can prove that a god exists, and no one can prove that he doesn't. You just BELIEVE either one.

Because we can't prove aliens exist and we can't prove that they don't.
Hmm, that is very true. However, and I don't wish to be anti-religious here (I am open to the concept of God, I feel it's necessary to say this as a form of flame retardant shield), but there is a much greater chance aliens exist without our belief than a deity of any form does.

In an infinitely expanding universe, with an infinite number of galaxies, with an infinite number of planets, the likelihood of there NOT being another inhabitable planet is minute.

I see no reason why there shouldn't be.

anyone who can look up at the starry sky and honestly believe that its only occupants are within a few thousand miles are blind fools, or religious (potato potarto (just kidding))

i wouldnt say minute, assuming the universe is infinite, theres no chance at ALL that there are no other inhabitable planets

oh i beg to differ, the fact that the universe is endless, and that there is a set probability of an inhabitable planet (such as our own) coming into existance is ample proof that, somewhere in the universe, theres another planet like earth, supporting life

Drake equation: http://www.activemind.com/Mysterious/Topics/SETI/drake_equation.html

Work out how many planets have intelligent life for yourself.

As for me i find it hard o believe that there couldn't be aliens, but they will be so far away we will never encounter them, I mean the nearest star, is 4 light years away, so travelling at the speed of light 3x10^8 m/s^-1, It'd take 4 years to get here, it's mind boggling to think aliens came to earth just to fuck with cattle, and a few crazies.

Given the fact that universe is infinite, with the exception of the universal loop theory (which is still very big), we can safely assume that we're not the only world with sentient life. To think that is just silly.

As the drake equation showed, there is a reasonable chance that aliens exist, so yeah of course i believe in aliens. Do i believe in alien abduction, UFO's, and all that shit, hell no! that is just paranoia, aliens are living millions of light years away.

How? I ask you, how? How can it be done without otherworldly intervention?
Slave labour and a relentless dedication to mystical deities. It's possible if you don't give a crap about your workforce, and if you believe that you will be rewarded for building such a monument in the afterlife, hell you'd do anything.

They probably exist. Probably no where near us, and we will probably never communicate, much less meet.

Mathematically speaking, they should exist. Of course Maths is not infallible, but if Steven Hawking is happy with it then I'm inclined to err on the side of optimism.

Weather or not they have reached, or indeed surpassed, our current level of civilisation and technological development is open to opinion though.

I do belive in aliens. Thinking that the universe is infinite then somewhere out there, there must be aliens.
Both less and more advanced then us.

Dammit I thought this was a topic about the movie Aliens, not enough people talk about that movie being that it's the best movie ever.

If you don't think some form of alien life is out there and that we're some miracle and that the odds are impossible that life could exist elsewhere you're quite foolish.

There's more planets in our galaxy than there is sand on our planet, and we're a pretty SMALL galaxy out of countless. There's any number of places life could be, and the whole argument "life needs very specific standards to live on" is WRONG. We've found life thriving in the bottom of the ocean with crushing pressure near scorching hot volcanic holes, if that's not enough how about life, LIVING ON NUCLEAR RODS? There's life in rocks, there's life in the sky, underground, in dark rooms playing WoW all year long.

There IS life out there, it's impossible for there not to be the odds are heavily stacked against there not being life outside this planet. Is it intelligent? There probably is some form of intelligent life and probably not so intelligent just like here.

Why haven't aliens visited us? Numbers of reasons, if they can travel the galaxy why would they come to earth? Do you stop by an anthill on the way to work and try to explain how your ipod works? No, we're a pathetic little species with very little understanding on anything. Humanity isn't even a second on earths clock, an infant species that is still growing and learning. Hell there's still people hating each other because of the amount of melanin in their skin, why the fuck is some big eyed green dood gonna come by here? To get shot in the face because he's different?

Point is, there's life out there, I just hope that in my lifetime we see some of it no matter what the size. Just as long as they're not here for our resources.

Yes there is bound to be other life out there, but why are we trying to contact them? There is no way they would be able to understand us for one, and two maybe they will think we are hostile or inferior.

eh, belief belies the actual likelihood of alien life existing. Mathematically more likely than God, I don't think aliens need belief to sustain them.

Chances of another life forn on a planet are something like 1000000 to 1 (Probably more) but there are billions BILLIONS of planets in the universe. So our chances are good.

Now the big question. Is there intelligent life out there?

You'd have to be either extremely stupid or extremely pessimistic to disbelieve in extraterrestrial life.
Or, you know, relying on actual evidence, of which there is none for aliens.

Considering the VAST amount of space, we'd be arrogant to think we are the only sentient beings alive.
