Normally, I always choose the good path in video games, similar to what I would probably do in real life. However, I have never questioned my morality more than in The Walking Dead, where it really wasn't a question of good or bad, but a question of survival, and I made many choices in the first two episodes alone that contradicted each other because there really was no "good" path. I tried to save people I hated, ignored people I really liked, and switched sides multiple times as the situation spiraled out of control. That game is hard.

Only if the good thing that I am saving is adorable.

If it's between an ugly Skyrim kid and the joy of shooting him in the face, I'll shoot. But if it's between a sack of gold and a kitten, screw the gold!

Also, just another welcome!

And as many have said;
Welcome to the Valve Fan Site.
No versus threads.
DO NOT ASK ABOUT MLP.
Keep out of the basement.

And that's about it!

I tend to like that gray area... do some good and some bad ... i find it the most realistic...

But sadly most systems run off the crappy ALL good or ALL bad or get shafted later on.. cough cough Mass Effect series ... So in those cases I usually just pick all good because its the Trekky in me.

I do like the Dragon Age system a bit more though... you get points on how your party reacts to your choices... and its not so good or bad loaded either so you get to be in more of that gray area. And when it comes down to the late game results as long as you brought the right people with you (which you really dont need a guide to do) you are now all screwed over.

More gray zone please, Future games!

I like being good. I had a tough time completing a renegade play through for Mass Effects 1 and 2 because I hate being a dick. Especially to characters I like. :(
This very much. In games where story plays a bigger role I tend to be good. However, in games where the story isn't as important and I feel less emotionally invested in the world, if the benefits are greater for being evil, then I can turn into quite a vicious bastard. The best example of this would be Fallout 3. Why be nice to everyone when it's so much more beneficial to simply kill them and take their guns?
I even have a tradition that I go through in almost every play through of Fallout 3. Kill and raid as much as possible before leaving the vault, raid the stores of Megaton, then head for Tenpenny Tower to set off the bomb. Since I am fairly powerful already (thanks to my previous raiding) I make a stop at Fort Independence and raid all of their really good stuff. Having a flamer at level 3 is really unfair. I then go and set off the bomb and I'm pretty much set for the rest of the game.

Firstly, and this is important so listen up...

You. Are. Never. The. Only. One.

Secondly, I have no idea why anyone would choose a option that doesn't give them the greatest benefit. And yet, as the poll shows, people do.

Thirdly, welcome to the 'scapist. Don't go in the basement.

When resources are involved, I'll generally do what'll net me the most of those. One play to win, so shipping fair maidens off to Orc brothels is fine by me if the boots for doing it are nice enough.

When there are no such considerations, I'll follow whatever story path is the more interesting. Which tend to be the one that is at least morally ambiguous.

As Yahtzee pointed out in his Overlord review, a truly evil character would do all the right things. People would think he was a great guy, because he'd only do evil things if he knew he could get away with it. The poor NPCs would be none the wiser. So yeah, do all the "goodie two shoes" quests and stuff. Save the world. Then, as the credits roll, when the peasants CHOOSE to make you their king... that's when things get real. D:

On my first playthrough I always play as myself, so of course I'll be a nice guy. Most of the time. If there's a guy who's trying to kill me I'll rip out his liver and beat him to death with it.

I play what I guess I would be in real life. A semi-moral dick who always does the best thing that can be done in an unforeseen circumstance but I will ***** about and ask for a reward just to spread the suffering.

Like som others have written here I usually do multiple playthroughs.

One seriousface where I play as a good guy, and a playthrough as a bad guy just to see what options they get.

Now in Mass Effect 3, if I knew I would have to kill Mordin and watch him crawl bleeding and fail his mission, I would never have tried it.

Eh, it depends.

Sometimes it's just more FUN to go around wiping out whole towns and telling some little kid that her daddy is a whore loving drunk.

However there area a few games, like Persona 3, where being 'the good guy' in conversations tends to 'feel right'.

You're never the only one on the internet. And it depends. I like being good, and in some games I feel like I'm being punished if I don't choose to be good. That's why I like the morality system in The Witcher where right and wrong are just shades of gray.

I'd say that the majority of gamers try to do good, I base this on those results you get after playing an episode of the walking dead since it often says that most people have chosen to do the good things.

I also always try to do the right thing when there's a choice in games, I like being a good guy. Which is why I LOVED Spec Ops: The Line, that game really challenged my moral choices because it's in a very grey area compared to other games in which you choose "save the puppy" or "eat the puppy, then its mother".

I usually choose the good options because the bad options mostly result in incredibly awkward reactions from the other characters. I get enough of that in real life!
Also I find that the responses range from "something a normal human being would do/say" to "something a completely psychotic egotistical jackass would do/say".

Depends, though based off my own morality I usually go for the good options and do the evil side as a laugh if I do go back and play through again
