This is my first post on Escapist so I'll try not to screw around.

When I browse through forums, articles, interviews and the like, I find that, nine times out of ten, when it comes to morality that I'm usually alone. I've always chosen to be the good guy and not ask for a reward at the end of it when possible. When it comes to Skyrim I think I've given at least 150 gold coins to beggars (you can only give one at a time) on completely separate occasions. I can't even stomach doing a second play through being a baddie.

But when I take a look the previously mentioned articles, it tells me that almost all gamers are bad. So I was wondering if anyone else out there is somewhat similar to me if I'm just a weirdo.

Edit: Amazed I got feedback so quickly

THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOMES!

I always take the good guy route as well. And since I never have the time to play a game again after I finished it, I never really get to experience being the bad guy. I DO however ask for money/reward whenever I do someone a favour.. come on now, I'm not doing all this questing for nothing. You better pay me, and pay me well.

Uh... really?

I've always heard/read that the vast majority of people choose the good options.

I know I certainly do, like 90% of the time, even if doing so puts my at an outright disadvantage.

The only time I be evil is if I'm not taking the game at all seriously (example: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic) or if the game give me a compelling narrative reason to do so (example: ... Um... can't think of one).

...

[sub]PS. In before some smartarse with the "No, you're never the only one" line. It's a bloody figure of speech, folks.[/sub]

Depends on the game.
I will happily slap on yakkety sax and gun down civvies in the infamout MW2 airport scene, but I really dislike being a dick to Alistair in Dragon Age.

I always have one good guy and one bad guy.

Best of both worlds, and I experience all the content both sides have to offer.

I always try to play the 'good guy', but I can't shake that niggling feeling in the back of my head that I'm just playing a game so it doesn't really matter either way. From there I pretty much default to whichever is either:

A) more enjoyable and/or B) more rewarding

Which usually happens to be the 'evil' options. There are a lot of people who can't/choose not to leave their real life morality at the title screen though, so although they might be the minority, but there are still plenty of 'good guys' out there haha.

I'll have my first play through as a good guy then if the game is worth replaying the second time I'm as evil and merciless as possible. That,s the fun of gaming, you can act in a way that would get you jailed/killed in the real world without those consequences.

Depends on the game. I love being a complete monster when playing as a Predator in AVP2 but I tend to be nice in RPGs. I haven't quite grasped the concept of role-playing yet :p.

Nice to see I'm not the only one that's done that then.

Generally, first time round I'll make choices I would make in that sort of situation (as a general rule, this is usually the nice option, but not always) then the next playthroughs are full good and full bad respectively unless the first playthrough was one or the other.

But a lot of people are very "morally motivated" to use your words in games.

And finally,

I think it was actually games that taught me as a young kid that doing the right thing was always the more beneficial for me. Well, that and Pokemon. At least, games showed me how doing the wrong thing always made things worse for me in the end.

And they say games turn you into murderers.

I like being good. I had a tough time completing a renegade play through for Mass Effects 1 and 2 because I hate being a dick. Especially to characters I like. :(

Yes, me too. I'm surprised TC has seen the opposite tendency, though. It makes me wander where he looked.

Well, there is...erm...well...bugger, I can't really think of any, either.

Anyway, I normally try to do a good and a bad run (if reasonable to do so) just to experience everything. Saying that, most of the time, I'm content with a good and neutral-ish run, just because "evil" is just portrayed in a really retarded matter.

I really hate the arbitrary morality systems they have in games, theyt tend to deviate from what I'd consider to be the good options, that sdaid I tend towards the good options, simply because being evil rarely has as much in the way of in-game rewards.

In addition well written games make me care about the characters involved and I don't have the heart to be nasty to them.

The only game i've played as a bad guy in recent years was infamous because well, it's in the title.

Generally i'll do whatever i feel is right rather than what the developer labels 'good' or 'bad'. Although most of the time this leads me down the 'good' path.

I generally have no preference. I like to mix it up and change my style.

I usually tend to do good first, since that tends to be the path that starts the hardest but ends up rewarding you more later. Evil paths tend to give more instant gratification but can cause you to struggle late game.

It's not a good idea for me to be evil in video games.

I tend to start cackling on skype and stuff. I like shot this guy in SWTOR and my mate was like

'Why are you laughing that was horrible!'

'Errrm...I...wasn't laughing at that I tabbed out and looked at a cat picture honest!' *cough*

MUAAHHAHAHA...

I just tend to go full throttle if I'm evil.

'There was a little girl with a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good she was very very good and when she was bad she was horrid!'

That nursery rhyme pretty much describes me with morality systems.

Im morally whiter than white too

when it comes ot being evil I can only do bad things if theres a real reason..and alot of the time there is no reason (sometimes there is)

I don't find it enjoyable to be a dick...simple as that
