Totally lost in most of the responses disagreeing with the OP: the idea that human beings gain something from interaction. If I can get the information from another person or from google, I'd rather get it from another person. That's how you practice and develop and experience social interaction, which is fairly important for a number of reasons. The culture of "google it" is convenient and useful and a little magical, but it's not having a positive impact on human socialization.

I generally think that it's rude to tell someone to google it. What's worse is when they link that insufferably smug website LMGTFY. Especially when that's all they say. Not even an "iunno" or anything. Especially irritating when you ask them a question directly.

Sorry OP, but I think it's a perfectly reasonable response if the person could have simply googled the problem instead of asking other people to waste their time redundantly answering it for you. Is it a bit rude? Maybe, but I think the person asking the question probably deserves to be talked down to for not bothering to check if the answer was already out there first. I'd probably just answer the question without being snarky or insulting, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone who decided to use this response instead.
