Question is all in the title folks. Which do you prefer to watch, or play?
I personally prefer Rugby all the way because of the
-The pure physical requirements,
-The fact that is simple to learn, impossible to master.
-It has a place for everyone, from the 100 pound, 5 foot tall person, to the 350 pound, 6 foot 6 man.
-Less time getting into position and planning, more time running and tackling
-Only safety equipment is a cup, making it more about the player and less about what they wear
-And lastly, the sportsmanship. They say that soccer/football is the gentleman's game played by hooligans, and that rugby is the hooligans game played by gentlemen.
There have been several times I've been tackled, only to have the person who tackled me offer his hand to help me up, and at the end of game, genuinely thank each and every person of the opposite team for a good game.

Anywho, I have rambled on enough. Vote and discuss :)

I much prefer rugby to American football.
I enjoy watching something happen for most of the game.

American football has about as much appeal to me as a game of chess.

Rugby has short shorts. Rugby wins.

P.S. Is there really a position in rugby suitable for skinny guys?

Edit: Apparently it's something called a scrum. Sounds like something that grows on old shower curtains...

Not really a fan of ether. I'll watch them but not so interested. In case you can't tell I am a hockey fan though.

I love watching American Football. It's just the right mix of constant action, and time to grab a drink/snack/whatever. You also have more time to think, making play calling more important.

Scrum half. My team had a 70 pound, 4 ft 8 Indian kid as our scrum half, and he was amazing.
For you Football fans, to decide which team gets the ball after a penalty or anything like that, there is either a scrum or a throw in (cant remember if there was a term for that)
A scrum is 6 people on each team, pushing against each other over the ball, trying to kick it backward. The scrum half acts like a quarterback taking a hut, once he gets the ball he can pass it off, or run up the field and pass off later.
Because he was so tiny, it was easy for him to stop on a dime and turn, therefor avoiding some of the larger guys, while also having a throw path below where most people reach to catch, making it more difficult to intercept.

If the other teams scrum half gets the ball instead, out scrum half can run around and try to tackle him. Ours JUMPED over the scrum quite often, not necessarily tackling him, but intercepting a pass, giving us forward momentum.

In the fronts and the backs. Locks are required for line ins and they support the props in a scrum. These guys are usually 5'10 and up and really lanky, cause they need to be lifted into the air and they need to swat a ball out of the air.
In the back it matters only that you are fast. Backs don't make the big tackles, and usually they tackle other people like them (tiny fast guys) unless you're the all blacks in which case....yeah.

I prefer rugby, if only because my previous school had one of those top rugby teams, and would give us an off day when we won a championship (which happened quite often).

Football wins in a landslide for me, most likely because I am an American, but I don't think rugby is that bad. It is not on tv very often here in the US, but I wouldn't mind watching it. It won't ever pass football for me though, especially college football, that is the most fun to watch, imo.

I would love to see handball on espn sometime, it's called team handball here in the US, I took a handball class this last spring at my university and it was REALLY fun.

We don't even wear cups in Australia.

Rugby is actually played here. Grid Iron (as it's known here) is pretty much a myth that none of us believe in.

I prefer Football (soccer) to both, then rugby league, rugby union, Aussie Rules Football, Grid Iron.

Grid Iron is shockingly boring, overly complex and really not that much fun to watch, they've even banned the stupid dancing and shit which was the only good bit.

I really enjoy playing Football[footnote]Real Football that is, not that track and field with a ball crap. JK :D[/footnote], and I like watching it too. Never really watched or played Rugby, so's I can't give an opinion on that.

Rugby all the way.

And also, you wear a cup? No one in Australia that I know of wears a cup.

As an American I honestly think Hand-egg is boring. I'd rather watch Rugby. I'm more into Football and Hockey though, but out of those two I'd go with Rugby.

Scrum halfs usually aren't too huge. And some of the backs positions can be played by small guys.

The locks in the club I play in are all over six feet and tend to be over 230 pounds.

American Football is the only sport I can actually stand watching. I've also played it casually with my family since I was little, so I know how to play it.

It's not exactly the most fun activity in the world, but it's better than others.

I'm American.
