Hate the people, hate the system. The people because of their *cough* beliefs, wilful ignorance and sometimes outright stupidity, and the system, well, lobbyists, business interests and such are what's wrong.
America hates you back

way to call Americans stupid while misspelling will on a forum with spell check by the way.
You sir, are my hero. Ever since my probation I'm afraid if I dare step on anyone's toes I might get suspended. +1 to you.

OT: Are you fucking serious? 100 people are ignorant enough to say they hate a group of people they only know through their own media? The Escapist is clearly the last bastion of intelligence on the internet -scoff-.

Other.

Like the people for the most part, except for the general laziness, fiscal irresponsibility, and anti-intellectualism sometimes seen here.

Dislike the system as it has evolved. Founding ideas were perfect.

I will say that I'm glad I was born here in America. I've been to Britain, Germany, Italy, Bahamas, Peru, Argentina, and Japan, and in my experience, the USA is the best place to live. We're law-abiding, generally polite, everything in America is huge and wide open, everything in America is ultra-convenient. Party on.

For all those saying "America sucks they're so selfish they only went to war cuz of a submarine blah blah blah": Some folks need to do some real research on history, society and culture before spouting off these hateful, and ignorant remarks. Most Europeans I personally know have a great respect for their close allies in America, and for good reason. We cover your whole continent with our military and political clout so you can afford all those fancy health care systems (that you can't actually afford.) Don't bite that hand that feeds you.
I totally agree with you.

My uncle found out the real reason people in other countries harp on the US. It is because they are jealous and want to live here. My uncle use to go on a ton o business trips to many places in Europe, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland to name a few. He would hear many people he worked with over there bashing the US. He was pretty well acquainted with the people he worked with over there and every once in awhile he would hear about when one of them would retire. Guess where they retired? Oh wow could it be, they retired in the US, well why the hell would they retire in a place they said they hate?

He asked these people after they retired. They told him that the majority of US bashing that people do in Europe is just bluster and fake-ness. In reality, they love the US and want to live here.

But with the crap that has been going on here, with Obama trying to turn this country into a carbon copy crap hole of a system like other European countries.

Obama Socialist Idealists: We need a National Health Care system hurp-dee-durp.

Me: No, we can't do that because it is an even worse and flawed system than the one we have and can't be implemented because we don't have the money to fund covering everybody.

OSI: Huuurp-dee-duurp. We can borrow more money from people/countries. We also have a printing machine, huurp huurp; we'll use it to print more money, duurp duurp. Oh and we can change the tax system so that we can take more money from the rich and spread the wealth around, huurp-deeeee-durp.
Me: You do realize what you are doing with the first two things is going to collapse the economic system. Eventually the people we are borrowing from are going to come an collect and they aren't going to accept that worthless paper you are printing.
OSI: Duuurrrp, they will never collect.
Me: Why is that?
OSI: Because.
Me: That's not an answer. Again why?
OSI: Because they won't.
Me: Yes they will, and you are just ignoring it.
OSI: They won't because it will hurt them as well.
Me: Not if they demand land and other goods that can be substituted for this fake money we are printing.
OSI: Huuurp, they can't do that because they can't ask for those things.
Me: Whatever, nevermind, you are just thick. Oh and onto the taxes thing. Yeah, that is called forced charity, and besides, you can't tax certain people more because that is unfair and is against what this country stands for. If there is to be taxes in this country, people are to be taxed an even percentage. With an even percentage, the rich will be paying more but it is fair because it is equal when comparing the amount of income. By the way, what do you consider to be rich?
OSI: Huuuurp-deee-duuurp, if a person makes at least 250,000 dollars a year, they are rich.
Me: Uh, nope. You do realize that in major cities 250,000 dollars a year is barely middle of the middle class, plus in most other areas it is just barely upper middle class.
OSI: Huuurp, $250,000 is a lot of money no matter where you live, duuuurp.
Me: Forget it, you are impossible. You just want to give money to people that don't do crap for it so that you can get re-elected and run this country even further into the ground. Hopefully people actually think correctly for a change and vote people like you out come election day.
OSI in their heads: Huuuuuuurp, drat he's onto our master plan. Let's run a nasty smear campaign of lies against people like him, that will make the blinder-wearing and uneducated people think that people like him hate the poor and want all the sick people to die.

I like the people, hate the system. I am soooooo glad I live in Canada.

[sub][sub]And yes, I do have a reason. Remember Laos? That small country that wasn't at war with America yet was bombed more heavily than Germany during WWII? That's something you should know about.[/sub][/sub]

Not really "American-hating Brit"; more like "American-hating European". And yeah, that stereotype exists. It isn't just a stereotype, either, as evidenced by how many people on this very thread seem to despise America for no other reason than that they feel like they are supposed to.

I'm not going to let it get me down, though.
Well said.

I've never seen a better use of that phrase: "haters gonna hate." Normally it means nothing in its usual context, but in this case, it applies perfectly to the anti-american mindset here. Arbitrary. Trendy.
That's a great way to put it. There doesn't seem to be any logical reason for the hate, not hating all the people here, or even most. Disliking a few, the tiny amount of our large populace, that makes sense. Claiming to hate all or most of us, not so much.
Guess they just gotta hate.

Actually, wilful is the correct way to spell it according to the forum spell-checker. Try it.

Also, most Americans being stupid is not an insult, it's a damn statistic. I put the footnote there for just that reason, not everyone is, so get your head out of your ass.
Link me the fucking statistic. I dare you to try. Not a video of people cherry picked to say dumb things but an actual study saying that Americans are stupider than people from other countries. As for "wilful" being correct, you do realize that the red line running underneath it means that it is spelled wrong right? Unless you accidentally hit the "Add to dictionary" option after right clicking the spell check is going to call you on it.

Just read the rest of the thread. Nice to know that even though a whole ocean separates us from most of you that you can still find the energy to hate entire nation of people in your daily life. Were all just people, human beings and while I'm preaching to the choir I still hope we can realize this someday. We all worry about the same basic things, family, friend, food, and sex. We all get our hearts broken fall in love and generally go through the human experiences. Also you can't ever really know a person just from a couple of meetings or even a lifetime. Take my friends dad, white, republican, and slightly overweight and he likes to listen to rap.

My point.

Hating someone or a whole nation is pointless, but go ahead if makes you feel better than than someone else. Because really thats all this is about.

I'm the complete opposite.

We have a damn good system, just the exact opposite people that you need are running it.

sorry but this is hitting me sore right now

If we can't say we hate the people, How can you honestly say you like them?
Isn't that also an en masse generalization than?
Yeah, that was an en masse generalization. I don't actually know most other americans so I can't say that I like them, I meant that I don't hate them. I guess I feel neutral about most other americans, but I do like the majority of americans that I know personally.

Also, there is a point I would like to make. During my time here, I've noticed a lot of members are of the view point that Republicans are stupid, narrow minded people. Please stop thinking like that. You are listening to stereotypes. Some of the most open minded and philosophical people I know are all members of the Republican party. I have enough trouble having to listen to my extremely democratic-independent U.S. History teacher call us that; I don't like seeing it all over the internet too.
While I don't doubt that alot of republicans are open minded and well-educated. You aren't exactly making a good impression, at least not to me, as the most I know of the Republican party is George W. Bush, Sarah Palin and protesting against the health care reform.

If you want to make a name for yourself to the rest of your world as open minded you should try to avoid putting people like Sarah Palin in charge.
That's exactly the point I'm getting at. A party should not be generalized because of people on the higher end of the political spectrum. Each to his own opinion, though.

Aw, shucks. *blushes*

It's just kind of sad, all this arbitrary hate. People like to group other people together and hate them. Mankind has been doing it since, like, ever. The truth is much more difficult: the people worthy of your hate are not as easily defined as "all the blacks/all the French/ all the Israelis/ all the whites/ all the Americans".

Jackasses are everywhere.

I don't know what's worst, the anti americanism mass generalization or the pro americanism "ppl hate us cuz they wanna be us" (so also a generalization), both usually backed by evidental anectodotes presented as fact that can easily be countered by other anectdotes, incomplete truths whose validity is foiled due to lack of context or just views held up by really particular world views.

I honestly wasn't sure which countries you were referring at first until I saw "republican" and figured you likely weren't referring to a republican party based in a european country (we seem to prefer the terms left vs right overall).
Either way, your message is true ^^

Depends on where you are. I was born and raised in the rural Midwest and people were fairly religious and ignorant of the world. Then I moved to a larger city in my state and things were much different, more varieties of peoples, cultures, and opinions/beliefs. Saying that most or many Americans are willfully ignorant or stupid, as your footnotes are implying, seems to suggest a strong generalization against 310 million people who live in many different areas with a multitude of lifestyles and beliefs. I'm not sure even personal experiences of yours would qualify as sturdy evidence since there may be a firmly held confirmation bias about America/Americans in your world perception.

There are stupid and ignorant people everywhere. Perhaps ours gets more media coverage in an attempt to increase drama for more views, or maybe it is more noticeable on the world stage due to a greater interest in the news of the United States for political and economical purposes. Just a few ideas I am throwing out. I would like to think my understanding of the world is more accurate due to my time traveling this country and abroad, however I may be just as prone to petty biases as the next person.

America is dipshit. The only reason they even came to help us in WWII was because a Nazi Submarine was stupid enough to attack one of their vessels. And they were pissed as hell about that.

But before that they didnt care at all. Sounds pretty egocentric to me.
... No, we joined WWII because of Pearl Harbor. You're thinking of WWI. And also, it wasn't a Nazi submarine, it was a German submarine. Nazis and Germans are not synonymous.

P.S When you want to call a country stupid it helps if you use basic grammar in said insult. Just a thought.

Well I hate most off the people and the system. I am an American. But quite frankly, all systems are broken, this world is a giant ball of shit and I'm still confused as to how these forums continue coming up. I'm aware that this forum is multi-national, but I would still like some sort of...... logical guideline to the forums.

For instance, why is it okay to espouse mindless hateful gibberish like some anti-american pseudo-nazi but sexual jokes and references are wrong. The mods are strict enough to warn you when your post is too short, but they're too busy to sensibly remove threads that will yield NO SENSIBLE RESULTS.

And EVERYONE has a holier-than-thou stick up their ass concerning piracy being the cardinal sin of the internet, but mindless hatred and closed-minded assumptions pass without a second glance.

So thank you Maraveno for you are CLEARLY a MASTER of the same acceptance that you accuse Americans of not having.
