Well according to Naughty Dog they must always be British..... just joking of course.

Can't actually think of many games where an american is the enemy, minds gone blank today. Oh well, don't really care as long the enemy fits the story perfectly.
Well technically UC2's main antagonist was a Serb, but they do tend to bash the Europeans.
True, the British guy is always being used I guess. Although, I am basing this on two games and one trailer for the third.
Yeah, though based on a developer vid on gametrailers.com the story involves Drake's Ancestor Sir Francis Drake and some secret organization so I'd actually be concerned if they didn't used Englishmen.

Interesting to see how many non-Americans want to kill virtual Americans...

Me, I don't care who the enemy is, as long as they make a proper job of it. Good writing could make even Belgium a convincing evil overlord.

What's up generalizing thread? How's generalizin'?

No, but seriously, there are plenty of games out there with American antagonists. And why is the conversation only limited to FPS?

As if the Governator needs more reason to outlaw video games.

Sure I'd be willing to go for it. You could very easily paint a big evil face on the US and have a band of smaller country work together to oppose them and there evil ways.

Since we are all sick to death of russians/terrorists/russian terrorists being the villains in pretty much every modern warfare-type game released in the past 5 years or so, I got to thinking, why doesn't any studio take the risk of making the world's most powerful country the enemy, beyond the occasional level or two? Even as simple as a reverse Red Dawn (with the eeeevil capitalists invading the peace-loving communists... or something) would make a change from shooting people with a foriegn accent.
It's all a matter of opinion and perspective, so I can accept a game that does portray the Americans as the bad guys.

Imagine playing as the 16-19 year old German farm boy, handed a gun and sent to the eastern from, fight in the most morbid conditions in the war (Read the book, "Sniper on the Eastern Front". Its reveals A LOT, and is a GREAT read) or fighting the onslaught of American troops, driving across europe to your home country, looking to kill you and every german and sight, because as far as they are concerned, your an evil bastard that takes pleasure in killing and burning and marauding, when thats just not true.
Eh...America didn't exactly "sweep across Europe killing Nazis along the way". By the time they landed in Europe, Germany was pretty much done for. The US would have been much happier letting Germany and The USSR kill each other off, plus they had that whole Japan thing to deal with...

As an American, while I do think we should hold the villain ball every once in a while, the idea of every state teaming for a big villain ho-down is too unrealistic.

Certain states do not get along. A civil war is the only way this could probably work.
The first thing I was reminded of in your post was "Texas" and I chuckled. :) Thanks for the laughs

Only if it had a good reason. If it was America as the villian for the sake of being a villian. It would be stupid.

American btw.

Nice to see how many hate America on here.
Unfortunately, hating the US while reaping the benefits of the US seems to be the cool kid thing to do these days. Kind of like the people who claim to hate capitalism while reaping the benefits of it.
