Oh, I see what you did there...zen5887 said:Its an imperfect rhyme, the same kind as Orange and Door hinge.
I think.
But, regardless of what kind of rhyme it is, those words do in fact rhyme. It isn't a very strong rhyme though.
Wow, you seem to have minimal experience with dialects. Both fisherman and fireman can be pronounced with any of the variations on man commonly found. Do the words rhyme? Very poorly, if you were a poet you would be scorned for such a lazy rhyme. As a note however to the people above. Man and Man do not rhyme, a requirement of words rhyming is that they be different words.Korolev said:Everyone pronounces fisherman as "fishermun" or "fishermen". I have not heard anyone say "Fisher-Man" except for a text-to-speech program, and as you know they don't count.
So "fire-man" does not rhyme. Yes, you could say "but they have the same end letters!" But consider this:
The word "dough"
and the word "cough"
written almost identically, pronounced NOTHING LIKE EACH OTHER.
Cat and cat don't rhyme because they are the same word. Fisherman and fireman do rhyme because despite being compound words with the same ending they are not the same word.Aulleas123 said:They rhyme because it ends with the same additive. Saying otherwise is like saying "Cat and Cat don't rhyme because they're the same word." It would be terrible to put into poetry but yes they do rhyme.
UnableToThinkOfName said:What? No. Fisherman and Fireman do not rhyme. Have you actually tried saying them?
errr yeah otherwise that would make this forum pointless.....the whole point of this forum was to see who was "right" by way of poll.....since the ecapist is the only site with forums that are not jam packed full of retards i came hereBatfred said:Not even close. Sorry. You spotting a pattern here?
If we were in your favour, you would crowd your mates around this forum. Are you even going to show them this now?
