Poll: Anime- dubbed or subbed?

Don't get me wrong, the sub for that was great. But the dub sucked a dead fish and a rusty fire hydrant.

I'd rather have dubbed. Because I don't understand Japanese and don't feel like reading everything.

Granted I'm not that big of an anime enthusiast to really care about it all too much.

Mostly Subbed, but I must admit the Baccano, and Darker than black english dubs were pretty good.

I'm actually perfectly ok either way. Which does admittedly get me some flak from my friends. But I really don't have an issue either way.

Subbed, I thought this was the general consensus? Really the only show I have watched with out subs, is the first FMA. Most everything else sounds too awful and I feel I really ruins the anime.

Depends on the show. If the anime is so inherently Japanese that hearing it in English sounds too forced (Eg:- Bleach. Everyone's first name, last name, sword name and place names are Japanese) then I'll always watch it subbed.

But if the show has a good dub then I'll normally watch that. Luckily for me, many of my favourite shows are Funimation licensed like Dragon Ball Z, Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho, and they almost always put out top-notch voice acting

Subbed, I don't know what it is, but I have NEVER EVER heard an anime with good English voice acting. I also am learning Japanese, so hearing it in its original language is good listening practice.

Completely agree. I was excited to find anime on netflix, then bummed when it was dubbed. The English voice acting always sounds exaggerated. (Maybe that's the way it sounds in Japanese too?) Dubbed versions sound cheesy, and they are ultimately too distracting for me.

Watch the first episode in English then Japanese. Whichever one I think is better, I go with.

If there is a dub, I'll take that over subs any day. I've seldom come across English dub voices (in major roles) I didn't like.

I agree with your point about funimation (I love FMA brotherhood and yyh, which is convinient becasue i cant find the dub for the new brotherhood episodes, but adult swim is showing the new ones i havent seen yet starting this week. wow that was a long parenthetical statement ) But on Bleach, I have been watching it dubbed, although i am tempted to do subbed because there are so many more subbed episodes (212 starting saturday for dubbed and 329 about for subbed). And while their zanpakto and stuff is japanese, they use a lot of different languages, too. German was heavily used in the Bount arc, and Spanish is heavily used with the arancar arc and huacomundo (SP?)

for me i watched dubbed until i had to watch a subbed ep because i couldn't find it on you tube and i haven't watched dubbed since although its easy to watch dubbed as you dont have to rea the subs and you can admire the animation more althogh unless it it the oficial sub the subs can be kinda messed up

Yes, there are examples of good subbing, but the vast majority of subbing voice actors have no talent and listening to them is akin to nails on a chalkboard.

Yes, you can watch dubs to hear the feeling and intent of the anime in its original language, but I find it a bit too cumbersome to try read text as the action happens.

Thus, I prefer manga, where the it happens in English, at the pace I choose.
Plus, mangas tend to be a year ahead of dubs, where tend to be a year ahead of subs.

I don't mind Dub anymore, sometimes it really depends on whether the english script can go further than just translating mindlessly, then some lines come out as ... retarded. Think Lock-On Stratos from Gundam 00 saying his catchphrase "Targeted and Ready to fire" while firing rather than ... before he actually pull the trigger.

It depends...Usually the Japanese voice actors are infinitely better so I would say dubbed but I dont always want to read my shows.

It's a rarity but I've heard dubbed animes that are worth a watch.
