I could probably say I love it and it's one of my three geek pillars (the other two being video games and the internet). I'm especially a fan of Haruhi and Nanoha. Oh, and Gurren Lagann is awesome.
Also, I get the feeling that some flaming/bashing will happen.
anime is not cartoons, because cartoons implies that them being targeted towards children, and there are many animes i do not think would be appropriate for children, (for example, Elfen Lied. this show, lots of blood and gore, [not to mention adult themes])jigs160 said:well... I don't see why you would care about something trivial as watching cartoons
Agreed that AMV Hell's are awesome. They're hilarious regardless of your opinion on anime or AMV's in general.Teiraa said:Anime is cartoons for adults and hilarious to mess with as seen here(its so funny)

Wasn't expecting Lucky Star praise from the guy who started that damn ex-japanophiles thread (yes, I'm still pissed about that and will react very violently if it's ever repeated).eatenbyagrue said:While I've gone on record as being strongly against it, I do occasionally watch some. Its more of the crowd that I dislike, rather than the style itself.
That being said, Lucky Star is awesome.
May I recommend browsing TV Tropes? That's a great way to find good anime; I know it sure as hell worked for me. Besides, most of every medium is crap.EnigmaticThor said:I voted that I hate anime, although I really only hate most anime. I don't mind Miyazaki's stuff, for instance. But I've found that most of it either has such a mind-numbingly stupid plot and bad aesthetic value, or is hideously over-sexualized and violent that I give it a pass. I know it's not all like that, but I've found it's easier just to give the whole genre a pass rather than take the time to look for the good stuff.
how are they different?tthor said:anime is not cartoons, because cartoons implies that them being targeted towards children, and there are many animes i do not think would be appropriate for children, and could possibly tramatize young children the same way a horror movie wouldjigs160 said:well... Which art style? There's almost as many as there are artists...Kollega said:Well. More "hate" than "like". This art style is not my thing.
It's a connotative thing. While they're both animated, cartoon typically implies it's for kids, as he said. A lot of anime, like Elfen Lied, are not the same in that regard.jigs160 said:how are they different?tthor said:anime is not cartoons, because cartoons implies that them being targeted towards children, and there are many animes i do not think would be appropriate for children, and could possibly tramatize young children the same way a horror movie wouldjigs160 said:well... i like to call them cartoons because they are both fundamentally the same.
Pretty much how I feel. For the most part anime is shallow, pretentious shite but there are some exceptions, like Miyazaki, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, etc.EnigmaticThor said:I voted that I hate anime, although I really only hate most anime.
