Did I prompt this?

I could probably say I love it and it's one of my three geek pillars (the other two being video games and the internet). I'm especially a fan of Haruhi and Nanoha. Oh, and Gurren Lagann is awesome.

Also, I get the feeling that some flaming/bashing will happen.

I voted that I hate anime, although I really only hate most anime. I don't mind Miyazaki's stuff, for instance. But I've found that most of it either has such a mind-numbingly stupid plot and bad aesthetic value, or is hideously over-sexualized and violent that I give it a pass. I know it's not all like that, but I've found it's easier just to give the whole genre a pass rather than take the time to look for the good stuff.

I like it. There is a lot more decent anime than there is quality programming on american television.

While I've gone on record as being strongly against it, I do occasionally watch some. Its more of the crowd that I dislike, rather than the style itself.

That being said, Lucky Star is awesome.

Definitely hate although I did watch something pretty good a couple of years ago.
But, still, I can't stand the culture that anime is bringing.

well... I don't see why you would care about something trivial as watching cartoons

anime is not cartoons, because cartoons implies that them being targeted towards children, and there are many animes i do not think would be appropriate for children, (for example, Elfen Lied. this show, lots of blood and gore, [not to mention adult themes])

Agreed that AMV Hell's are awesome. They're hilarious regardless of your opinion on anime or AMV's in general.

Wasn't expecting Lucky Star praise from the guy who started that damn ex-japanophiles thread (yes, I'm still pissed about that and will react very violently if it's ever repeated).

May I recommend browsing TV Tropes? That's a great way to find good anime; I know it sure as hell worked for me. Besides, most of every medium is crap.

Also, it seems some of the hate is fandom-based. I've actually enjoyed a good bit of the internet fandom, but then again I was probably around the saner fans and I may have some of those quirks associated with anime fans (and no, I don't mean Hot Topic or spouting random Japanese).

how are they different?
i like to call them cartoons because they are both fundamentally the same.
EDIT:not the aimed at children/adults thing
the scope of a format doesn't change what it is.

An impressively vague poll on a subject that's been done quite to death. But to answer, I watch occasionally. I suppose I should just say I watch all the time, but only if you don't distinguish between anime and the manga they're based off of (or vice versa).

Which art style? There's almost as many as there are artists...

It's a connotative thing. While they're both animated, cartoon typically implies it's for kids, as he said. A lot of anime, like Elfen Lied, are not the same in that regard.

I don't like most anime, but occasionally one will slip past my disdain and I'll actually enjoy it! That is a very exclusive club, however, since the only ones that have done that so far are Cowboy Bebop and Robotech. I did watch Dragon Ball Z in seventh grade, but that's a year best left forgotten...

Pretty much how I feel. For the most part anime is shallow, pretentious shite but there are some exceptions, like Miyazaki, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, etc.
