So I was having an argument with someone earlier today about anime. It was over Death Note and Code Geauss - I don't really like either of them and don't think they're terribly good anime. The person I was talking to damn near exploded, and thinks I'm some sort of anime peasant, and that I simply haven't seen enough good anime to be a judge of it. I think he is full of shit.

But lets let the Internet decide, shall we? I to MyAnimeList.net and made as complete a list of the anime I've read/watched that I can remember off the top of my head. And now we'll let the Internet decide.

Am I an anime peasant as he claims? Anime noble? Or perhaps Lord of all Anime?

Well you certainly need to watch more. But you've seen Big O so I can't hold too much against you.

I liked the first season of Death Note and I liked Code Geass. It's 6am so I can't be arse recommending anything, but I'm sure you'll be inundated with options soon enough.

... wasn't R Dorothy a tasty piece though?

Code Geass is probably one of the greatest shows ever made. And I don't watch anime. I'm assuming you didn't watch the entire series, because you really need to watch all of it to understand its brilliance. I'm a writer btw, I basically study story structure for a living. And I simply cannot get enough of the show. Must have watched it two dozen times by now.

I know I probably sound like a fanboy, but if I felt like it I could be all systematical and tell you why it's "officially" a really good story by listing a ton of rules and whatnot for what makes a good story, but I won't. Because I'm on my break and I don't feel like doing school work right now.

As much as I liked Code Geass I can see where you're coming from OP. I don't think it would be as awesome if I hadn't seen the entire series. As for Death Note, I kinda lost interest towards the end, because I likd the tension between the first few characters.

I don't know everything on your list, but maybe you tend to be more episode-based in your tastes? Rather than massive storylines? Just a guess, but it could have something to do with it.

Your friend sounds like a douche to me. There could be a multiple reasons why you don't like something and this guy is probably just hurt you don't follow his taste or something.

But you seem to want osme judgement, but you're definitely not a peasant. You've seen more shows than I have haha.

Nah, even though I enjoyed both series, I can understand where you're coming from. I've seen a fair share of anime (I've got an anime list [http://myanimelist.net/animelist/KiraMustDie], too.) and I, too, have some series that I hate that everyone else seem to love.

Well, it does seem like a large portion of the stuff you've watched is the really mainstream junk like Bleach and Dragonball and Naruto.
There is the occasional quality piece in that list though, like FLCL and Cowboy bebop.
I'll also add that the first half of Death note is really good.

You better be talking about Hellsing ultimate, not the TV series.
Because the tv series was shit.

Depends on which season he was talking about. Code Geass R1 was pretty solid, but not terribly groundbreaking. R2 was horrifically bad.

Sorry but I on your friend side for this.

I mean where is-
Eureka 7
Soul Eater
ANY Studio Ghibli films.
ANY Satoshi Kon films like Paprika, Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent or Tokyo Godfathers
Gundam 00
Golden Boy
Afro Samurai

However in saying so you did watch Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Ghost in the Shell (which I know that show isn't for everyone) and Samurai Champloo so I guess it sort of balance it out. I highly reccomend that you start watchings more of those films I've mention!

Well, it's both true that Death Note and Code Geass aren't exactly the pinnacle of Japanese animation and that your experience with the medium is rather limited (I see mostly mainstream shounen stuff).
Although I don't quite see how having a broader knowledge here would make one appreciate a particular work more.

But in the end what does it matter? You like what you like and if you didn't enjoy those two series you're fully entitled to your opinion regardless of the amount of animated works you watched.

Baccano my good sir, A LOT gorier than Hellsing and extremely upbeat and funny.

If you're into just the fighting, Deadman Wonderland (Despite the horrid censorship)

I would disagree that Death Note is a bad anime. It's well produced and I think the music is fantastic but I'll agree about Code Geass. I'm disappointed there is no Hellsing, Clannad or K-on on your list. You should watch them, like now

I hated Code Gay-ass--- I mean... anyway Death Note is okay at best so I would have to agree with you. Your list is lengthy though it is rather... hold on one sec, let me put on my hipster glasses. Where was I? Oh yeah, MAINSTREAM :OOOOOOOOOOOOO

That's fine though some of that stuff is pretty good imo.

Code Geass is really quite well regarded, but to each their own really. Just a Hamlet rip off really.

You're still an anime peasant though, just not for the reason he stated. Man you need to see a lot more decent anime. Most of the things on your list are long running shounen or Gundam.

Urgh, I'm just going to give you a list:

Kara no Kyoukai
Ergo Proxy
Grave of the Fireflies
Ef - a Tale of memories
Clannad
Planetes
Nana
Baccano
Steins;gate
Toradora
Black Lagoon
Skip Beat
Ga-Rei
Hajime no Ippo
5 centimeters per second
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Howls Moving Castle
Nodame Cantabile
Full Metal Panic
Redline
Durarara!!
Beck
Suzumiya Haurhi no Shoushitsu
Eve no Jikan(Movie)
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi was mada Shiranai(commonly reffered to as "Anohana"
Fate/Zero
Usagi Drop
Angel Beats!
Detroit Metal City
Spirited Away
Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
Elfen Lied

Ok I'm done. All the names there correspon to their names on MAL, so they shouldn't be difficult to find.
