No, I cannot read.

Infact, I don't even know how I responded to whatever it was you just said. =P

I'm one of those people who, reading subtitles will distract from whatever is going on screen.

Just anime at the end of the day, not exactly expecting some dramatic and in-depth storyline which couldn't be conveyed in the English language, so, dubs are fine.

Subtitles. Dubs are usually put out cheep and quick and the acting mostly horrible. Plus, subs generally try to Americanize the dialog and end up killing some of the meaning, especially in a comedy.

Subs, always. Dubs are pretty much content rape.

A huge part of the attraction, for me anyway, of anime is the visual styles. You miss a lot of that while reading subtitles.

I couldn't exactly come up with some example to prove you wrong or anything as I only ever watch the subs now. I don't have a clue as to how stories come across when put into spoken English as I never watch an anime in both languages so I'll assume that dubs are, indeed, fine!

I usually stick to Japanese but if the characters sound better in english then I will go dub The Gurren Lagann dub is ok as is the soul eater dub but I think that the Hellsing, Devil May Cry, and Fullmetal Alchemist dubs sound better than the original japanese.

This usually results in watching Japanese first and then English if there is a dub.

Bottom line: I usually watch both.

Some of my favorite shows have terrible dubs. Others have great dubs. Also, there have been occasions when the japanese voices are bad - it happens. Not often, but it happens.

Generally, I usually like Comedy dubbed and Drama subbed, but then certain shows blur that line and it really comes down to the voice acting for a particular series.

Since the English dubs are normally shit and fewer jokes are lost in translation; I'm going with the Japanese dubs, thank you very much.

Edit: The English dubs are absolutely painful. Upon seeing a clip from the dub, I am so infinitely glad I did not watch Clannad in English; because surely it would have ruined so much of the feeling.

Cowboy Bebop? English all the way.

Dragonball? Subs.

If I like the voices, I'll watch an English dub. Sure.

Since most english voice acting is shit, I give it to japanese audio with english subs.

Though I will watch it in English if it doesn't sound like a 7 year old reading outloud to the class; which isn't very often.

The only good dubs I can think of right now are Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist.

There is simply no better way to listen to most anime than in the original Japanese with subtitles. DBZ being the one exception to the rule that I can think of.

I stick to the subs, original voice-actors are usually better but I do watch a series with dubs if they are actually good. And as to actually understanding the original language, you pretty much recognize the basic of what everybody is saying after what 20-30 series or so ?

Also, FMA:Brotherhood is so awesome in every way, watching it with dubs would be blasphemy.

Japanese. I study the language, plus I always like to see/read the original version, if I know the language.

Honestly, it depends. I can watch subbed, and have at times, but the English dubs make it a lot easier to stay focused, honestly. Especially in the faster-paced anime and whatnot.... it's hard to keep up if I'm trying to read the little words at the same time.
Also, stuff like Baccano!, which is set in 1920's America. It seems natural to watch it in English.
