Poll: Anime Subbed or dubbed?

Depends on which is better. I watch Azumanga subbed (Damn you southern accent!) and Hellsing dubbed, as it has fairly good voice actors.

I saw dubbed bleach once. They gave the guys the archetype heroic voice and gave the girls either the archetype girly voice, or the archetype serious-girl voice. It made me sad.

I always go subbed unless, like Bleach or Naruto, I was first exposed to the dub.

That said, I find it hard, sometimes, to find a good quality sub. The one I got for Code Geass, for example, had no consistency with character names (Levall/Rival, Kallen/Karen, Nunally/Nanaly, etc), and messed up one of the best lines ever.

The line was that great one at the end of the first episode, "Lelouch vi Britannia commands you all...die!

What I got was something along the lines of "You all, who serve Britania, are told by me, Lelouch, to stop living!"

Dubbed, although subtitles are better than nothing or really bad voice acting.

Although the only anime I've really watched is Neon Genesis.

Depends on the show. I've come across a few amazing dubs in my day and am willing to give them a chance. I'll list examples.

Baccano! (Best dub in existence. No contest.)

It depends on the mood i'm in.
If i just want to watch anime then i prefer subbed but if i want to watch it while doing something else, like posting here or playing flash games then dubbed.

If it is a good anime ([small]read: Bleach[/small]) then I don't care. I have watched so many episodes on the internet that there aren't anymore dubbed ones, so I guess subbed.

I always choose subs the first time I watch each anime. Then, if it was good enough to watch again, I occasionally try the dub, just to see what it's like.

It just doesn't feel right, watching it dubbed the first time - in my experience, the translators tend to take quite a few liberties!

Subbed all the way, cuz 1) I can learn Japanese and 2) English translations tend to come off as too emotional and cheesy in dubbings.

The only Anime I've seen that was actually better dubbed than subbed was the Cowboy Beebop series and the Ninja Scroll movie. Both of which are kick ass btw.

Dubbed, #1 because reading TV is doing it wrong. and #2 because Japanese voice actors are just as terrible as the American ones, so "watching" it subbed for the voice acting makes you the anime equivalent to a Halo fanboy.

I don't have a preference. I'll usually make my decision on a case by case basis. Like, Dragon Ball? I always preferred some variation of the US dub, mainly because it's what I grew up with. Same for Afro Samurai, Cowboy BeBop, Lupin III and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Samurai Champloo, on the other hand, I usually watch in original Japanese with subtitles, mainly because I have a hard time taking Steve J. Blum seriously in any role other than Spike Spiegel. Also, the US dubs of Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho and most of the Gundam franchise (except maybe Wing) are pretty atrocious.

it... depends. for some it depends what i saw it as first. for some it depends on the quality of the subs/dubs.
i first saw deathnote in japanese. didnt try it in english until i was about halfway throuh, and by then i knew the voices too well for the change to work. first time i saw gunslinger girls was in english, and it seems weird for me when i watch in jap. but those two are really just surface difference, i only have a preference because of what im used to.
with some others i really need a particular one - for example, when i (unfortunately) borrowed samurai gun i discovered that while the subbed version wasnt bad, the dubbers had felt the need to make every second, third and alternating fifth word 'f*ck.' i dont object to swearing, but gratuitous swearing is just juvenile. that said, maybe its in the japanese version as well, just not included in the subs.

tldr; in answer to subbed or dubbed, i say 'yes.'
