Pick your poison, people.

How do you like watching your anime? If you're confused, dubs are english voices 'dubbed' over the original images.

It really depends on what I feel like doing. Generally, I watch it one in English to get the jist, and then in Japanese with English subtitles to feel cool.

Depends on the quality of either. I'd gladly watch the Fullmetal Alchemist or Death Note dubs, but would rather take the sub for Elfen Lied or Higurashi. On the whole though I generally end up watching subbed.

If the Dubs are good then I usually go for that. If not then I'll just go with subs. It's no big deal to me really.

Subs help maintain the authenticity of the Anime. There's nothing I hate more than seeing an anime mutilated by horrible English voice actors, female English Anime voice actors in particular generally SUCK.

Some anime, albeit rare, are actually better with English dubbing, Death Note really comes to mind when I say this.

Usually Subs unless they are really good dubs. Switching from Subs to Dubs in Eureka Seven was horrible, it was obvious that half the voice actors were just reading off the script instead of putting the feeling that the Japanese voice actors do into it. Completely ruined the episode.

I prefer subs. I can read fairly fast and still see what's going on.

Raw.

But when needed, subs. I'd rather see things in their own language. Usually the original voice actors have had more time in touch with the creative process behind the show than the people who were hired to provide a healthy alternative for those too lazy to read a sentence every 10 seconds.

Several people will want to kill me for saying dubs. Since it's my native language I can get into it more, but yes, you can argue that thinks are lost in translation and things get a slightly different intepretation. Also you can lose all respect for english voice actors just by looking at their past roles.

Usually depends on the setting of the show, if set in Japan I'll go with the sub, and if somewhere else the dub if they are of roughly equal quality.

For something like Spice & Wolf, where the original voice acting was vastly superior to the dub - despite it actually being good - I'd of course go with it despite the Medieval European(ish) setting, whereas I went with the excellent dub in Death Note despite most of it taking place in Japan (nothing wrong with the original VA's, but the show had an international feel to it and was my first foraging into Anime).

Every Japanese voice actor ever has done porn. *rough and loose estimate*

Sub, but I'll take the dub if the sub can't be found.

I can't hear bad Japanese voice acting, but I can definitely hear bad western voice acting. Unless it's Engrish (which it tends not to be these days) subs can't go wrong.

So you never saw the Holy Trinity (Bebop, Star, Champloo) in English? They were basically perfect. So was Trigun (which I actually preferred in English dub).

I think what's interesting is if one grew up watching anime in the 90s, you wouldn't mind dubs because they were actually really good, (when Sci-Fi was an acceptable channel) especially the movies. Unlike today's dubs (though Black Lagoon was good)...

Why isn't there an "either/or" option on the poll? I enjoy either one. But after a time of watching a series in one or the other, I begin to prefer that one, simply because I'm familiar with the voice actor and they've become synonymous with the image of that character in my head. Switching after becoming used to one is like all of the actors in your favorite live-action TV show suddenly being switched out for all new ones. Adjusting to that is just something the mind resists as much as it can.

Most of the reason I'm halfway is because, typically, I have little input in which language I'm exposed to. I'm in an anime club, so there it's really up to the person who brought in the series. All the others I watch I've picked up from Funimation's submissions online, and usually on those they offer only one or the other (or, if they do offer both, the episodes in subs are usually much farther ahead than the dubbed ones).

The only ones I've really had much of a say in is the Hayao Miyazaki films I own. Just by habit (and because of the DVD defaults) I've always listened to them in English first.

Why isn't their a depends option? It honestly depends on the anime. With One Piece or Bleach I would choose subs, but for Cowboy Bebop or FMA I choose dubs. And is it me or is this type of poll up all the time?
