I stream...
I live in Sweden and I'm ashamed to say that Sweden SUCKS!
At least when it comes to movies and anime.
Seriously...

In Sweden there is a monopole when it comes to anime.
There only 5 stores in the whole country, which are the same chain "Sciencefiction bookhandeln".
Everything is there... is as expensive as it can be.
A normal serie of 13-25 episode will cost as much as whole days worth of work. (fulltime)

Whoa, whoa, whoa, you mistake me as a person who believes what I am doing is right. I know I am stealing. I know I am a thief. I know that I am taking food out of the mouths of the creators, but the thing is that I don't really care that much. I am a bad man.

*snipt*

I am not defending my actions in this thread, I'm merely condemning my fellows bad men/women who consider themselves above me, and at the same time suggesting that if anime translators want to profit from my/our evil ways, they need to adapt to me, because I represent their market. (or at least a large portion of it) The producers must adapt to the demands of the market, or at least they should if they want to make money.
You are a bad man. Doubly so because you know damn well there are legal ways to get anime without paying for it, but you still pirate. In other words, you go out of your way to steal it, which is--forgive me for saying it, but I gotta call it like it is--a total dick move. Why is that?

I only stream from sponsored sites like Crunchyroll, so yes, I do think I'm above you. Plus, how are the producers supposed to "adapt" to you when you've already made it clear that you're going to steal their product no matter what they do? What possible incentive is there for them to try to please you?
I never said I went out of my way to pirate. I specifically said that I've watched anime on youtube and hulu which are 100% legal and perfectly fine by me. (or maybe I forgot to mention that, but I meant to)

If more companies adapted to my desire and put their series up on hulu or youtube, then I'd watch more anime on hulu/youtube and thus they'd get more ad dollars from me.

Edit: Oh, and I did mention that I watch some anime legally.

Me on page 1 of this thread said:
The only reasonable way to get me to stop pirating is to offer up anime/manga for "free" by paying for it with advertising. I'm excited to see animes (actually just all sorts of shows) getting released via Hulu and Youtube for "free" (not really free since there's advertising but it's free enough for me)

I can only hope that manga companies (or at least manga translating companies) might start doing the same. Give me a full manga online and pay for it by having adds that pop up all around the boarders of it for every page.
I don't think you're above me, because you apparently judged me without actually reading my posts.

Oh, and so as not to come off as a "total dick" thanks for mentioning Crunchyroll. If that is a legal streaming site then I'll make sure to check it out myself.

I usually buy a 'test' DVD first, maybe the first Volume of a series. But more importantly I check it up online first, if it's something that looks interesting to me, and is getting favorable reviews, or that I'm going to stick with then I'll fritter my precious pennies away.

As for Youtube...I'll admit I -have- watched several episodes of various series there, though, I'd never -really- considered it stealing, more as say, a stand in for television, after all, it's only by mere lack of availability of the channels that carry the shows I'd care to watch that I do so, I still pay the license and set-up don't I? Though I guess it's not exactly a 50/50 trade .^^'

I normally just wait until something comes out in a complete season boxset and it's at a price I can afford. Usually just go on recommendations from friends, reviews, if it's basic on a manga I enjoy and general word of month.

I live in the uk, so I just buy what ever is cheapest either the usa/uk boxsets, it also depends on cover art and what comes out sooner. Thank god for multi-region dvd players.

I don't watch anime as much as I read manga, but thanks to Netflix, I can usually rent and set myself up for a purchase if need be.

With less income, do you think that the creators of One Piece or any other manga artist and writers (usually only being 1-3 people on a single series) could continue making the things you love?
Are we talking about anime or manga? Two pretty different things, there.

Either way, I find it odd that you bring up Eichiro Oda. Do you realize how unbelievably huge One Piece is? Regardless of moral considerations, I find it extremely doubtful that the man is in any danger whatsoever of less income, especially since that anime you're talking about is an extremely popular anime adaptation of an extremely popular manga.
he probbly has a replaca of the Merry Go in his Bathroom/Spa.

OT: I Buy.
it just feel good to actualy own it.
I buy manga often but i wait for the Box Sets for anime.
$30 for 22-27 Ep is a good deal in my eyes, plus in the two Bleach box sets i bought i got some pretty sweet extras.

Ah, this I did not know. Thank you for educating me. :)

This is me exactly. The only issue I have is with boxsets since, as I mentioned before, they almost never have any extras; one of the few exceptions I've seen is the Excel Saga boxset, which basically combines all six of the individual DVDs into a handy box. Of course, there's a thinpak set too, which (again) is totally bare-bones; no cultural notes, no subtitles, no nuthin. Not worth it, in my opinion. But there are a lot of series that only come in a thinpak set, or else you have to buy the individual DVDs which costs a hell of a lot more. I don't see why we can't have both.

I'm fairly sure, that a decent chunk of the Escapist community are watchers of Anime, and I'm sure most people are always wanting a new show to watch, or just something new to see to please the mind and eyes. But most people just go around, without a care, and stream entire seasons of shows, being unaware of the consequences. Just as with music, if you are getting this stuff for free, you are taking away from the creators and distributors of the product. With less income, do you think that the creators of One Piece or any other manga artist and writers (usually only being 1-3 people on a single series) could continue making the things you love?

For a more detailed explanation of what I'm trying to say, I advise you to take a peek at this video: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/marzgurl/reviews/12669-animeed01

I personally used stream all the time, but now if I see something that looks appealing to me, I'll just go out and buy the box set if I can.

So I just want to know, how exactly do you acquire your anime? and would you change it if it meant getting more of what you love?
hmmm, boxsets of anime being as incredibly expensive as they are?
sorry but me paying 25$ for 125 minutes of bleach?!? IM IN COLLEGE FOR GODS SAKE I CAN AFFORD THAT!!

i'd buy em if they were not so damn expensive.

i mean if you wanted every episode of bleach to date it would cost you 100's of dollars! and the series isnt even done yet!

i mean the prices are just MADNESS!!

i can get a relatively new BLURAY disk for 20 bucks but 125 minutes of anime are going to cost me 25$$?

see:

20 Episodes costs 50 BUCKS!! i mean come on!!
