I see a lot of people saying they like "weird" anime; and then mentioning shows like Lain. Personally on an A-F scale I give Lain a C-. Lain was really hyped up for me and it was kind of a let down. Then again I did watch it when I was like 14 or 15 and I'm 24 now so maybe I should re-watch it. To me recollection its only a 12 episode series. But if any of you like "weird" anime I suggest; HIGHLY suggest, Boogiepop Phantom. In my opinion it was everything Lain was supposed to be, and a lot more.

Some animés I just cant stand.Like most of those over 200 episodes "Mainstream" ones.I.E. One Piece,Naruto,Bleach,Dragon Ball anything.
I have a little theory that is that most animés that are over 30 episodes are fairly bad.And no animé that I have seen breaks that rule.
My favorite animés are all fairly well known. But not all that popular. At least not with the common animé fan.
I find myself needing to respond to this. I am curious as to why something is bad simply due to the fact that it is "mainstream" or because it has 200+ episodes. The only thing that proves is that the series in question has been monumentally successful and/or that their writers felt that the plots could not be resolved after only 30 episodes. Not criticizing so- to-speak, just curious.

any good show needs 3 basic elements in my opinion. first, it needs actually good fighting that doesnt get boring after 5 minutes (there are a few exceptions, but one shouldnt take three episodes to go super sayian). second, it needs good characters that the audience is able to relate and can keep their attention for a while. last, there must be comic relief. comic relief is the glue that holds the show together. japanese anime tends to fit all of these elements. this is all opinion and it fits the japanese anime i have already seen. if you find a good anime show that fits these rules, then tell me about it.

Anime/Manga is alot like Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels if you ask me.

The vast majority is a steaming pile of pig crap but then you come across an Enders Game or Code Geass and it all becomes worth the effort of looking the the diamond in the rough.

I used to enjoy Inuyasha, but have since given up on all anime I used to watch. I'm currently indifferent to it, neither watching any, nor avoiding any mention of it. I can see the appeal, I just don't watch television period.

Because from what I've seen, most animés that are in the 200+ are usually don't have one pre-set plot.Rather they have a bunch of plots that all happen within each other.Which could mean that the bad guy does something, but the viewer doesn't get to know of it for the next 50 or so episodes because they were focusing on something that had nothing to do with anything.
And they often also tend to drag on.And they just throw out a new plot twist whenever they run out of ideas for the already going plot.

Just, ugh..
They're all pretty much the same bad thing. With very few exceptions.
Crazy hair, androgynous males, girls that are 'super hawt' and... 12... ugh, in fact in most animes, everyone's like 13, and saving the world!

I never used to like it, but then I saw a few gems like Bleach and Gunslinger Girl that made me think twice, and now I'm hooked. I'm finding them more enjoyable than most crap the west churns out each year, do we really need another forensic detective series, we're drowning in the stuff!

Princess Tutu, Gao Gai Gar, Giant Robo, Legends of Galactic Heroes, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Planetes, Dennou Coil...

The list goes on.

Not crazy about it, but I sure do like it.

Seeing that I'm going through a phase where I could associate anime with an extremely addictive drug, I am currently loving it...
Except I'm running out of animes that actually interest me.

There's a lot of parts of anime that piss me off...

I really, really hate that whole kawaii thing. The innocent girls that act like babies, the protagonist tries to help her, then falls over backwards and she screams at him with extremely annoying animation.

The battle scenes that take several episodes. Dragonball Z was awesome as a kid, but now I can't justify spending 3 hours watching two guys smack-talk over 6 episodes before they throw a punch or two.

The Final-Fantasyesque Fem-Men. I really dislike the androgynization of men in Japanese/asian culture. Not only is it evident in these media, but also in real people. There's so many fem-men on campus here. And girls fucking love it. Ugh.

Other that, though, I wouldn't mind watching a few. I used to watch the obvious, Pokemon, Monster Rancher, Digimon, and DBZ as a kid. I watched a few episodes of Cromartie High School last year, but stopped because of time. I also think I'd quite like Ghost in the Shell.

The anime style is very cool if done in a tasteful manner, like the Kill Bill anime sequence or some of the Animatrix shorts. However, in the whole, I think I can live without it and that I'd rather read the manga of the animes that are based on manga. (but then there's the time issue again, which means I've only read Death Note)

I don't really like so much, considering all the weird stuff I see coming from my Otaku friend, but there are some that I think a pretty cool.

Although I am/was a Dragon Ball fan. As far as I know, that's the one of least weirdest animes out there.

Sorry if that sounded like flamebait.

I've been a fan of anime since I was 10, and I'm still in love with it.

My favourites would include Elfen lied, death note, bleach, Code Geass and Higurashi no naku koro ni.

I'm also loving Umineko no naku koro ni which I just started watching a few days ago.

Gurren Lagaan, Azumanga, Ghost in the Shell, Lucky Star, FLCL, Gunslinger Girl, and Outlaw Star are some main courses i enjoy.

Serioulsy though. Anime is awesome, and NONE OF US SHOULD BE PROUD.
