Ok i didnt read any posts but the first one but heres your solution. Since its pretty obvious you and your cousin are in there for the game and not to win, which alot fo the crappy L4D players do. Lose the first 1-2 rounds, like badly, pretend u dont kno what the hell you're doing, maybe even say that in chat, like laugh alot. Then rounds 3-5 own face. Me and my roomates do this and it works pretty well. There will always be rage quitting because people are lazy and dont want to face tough teams, and the decent players that get stuck on a team that half of them quit from leave because 4 v 2 is just no fun at all. The real solution is some sort of penalty against people quitting before the game is over. Nothing crazy, maybe a 5 minute penalty where you cant play versus. Valve did there best to fix it by making it that the losing team gets to go infected first but I think a time penalty would work well.

edit: and forget the feedback system, that never works

You could set it up so that some of your friends are on infected while other are on survivors. That way you always have a balance between human players and bots. It would also discourage people from leaving if your friends stay.
A good idea, a sound and logical (even to me) compromise, but it only works on paper. It's also about habit - friends stick together. Especially in the face of random people who you have no idea will perform. For example, if they're a godlike team, then I for one would like to 'suffer' with my friends. I'm overreacting, but the idea of having a friend on the team that kicks my ass to be terrifying and insulting. Contrariwise, I may feel guilt for beating the team (because I defeated my friend, of whom I stick to through and through).
Here's a simple solution for you, which will end this problem of filling the server with players: You and your friends choose to play as Survivors for the first round.

It really is that simple, works for me and my friends every time - though you can't guarantee that people won't ragequit after you've won a few rounds.

Unless of course you and your friends are incapable of letting the opposition be Infected first time around...in which case you would be as bad as the people you complain about.
The other thing, too, to add to that is that sometimes people don't feel like having a match that's PUG Vs. People that know each other. It can be a tad unfair, although not necessarily. But, I know I would personally rather play 4 people that know each other vs 4 people that know each other, or PUG vs. PUG more so then anything else. Sort of like when you're playing Counter-strike and you realize you're on a team that's going against an entire clan. It usually turns into a slaughter.
You're absolutely right of course, but until the new matchmaking system is launched with the Survival Pack DLC then there isn't much we can do about it. :)

Roll on the Survival Pack please Valve.

Just do what i do. Play the game. When you meet good players add them to your friends list. Then only join game with those friends if possible. problem solved.... mostly. On topic i wouldnt leave a game because i was getting beaten, or if i couldnt get the character i wanted(infected or survivors). I would leave a room however if people on my team didnt have mics but only before the game starts.

I'm annoyed with Left 4 Dead, because microsoft has been holding up the release of the new content patch. I have no idea why valve signed an exclusive contract with microsoft when there user base is emphatically PC based.

I'm also annoyed with the whole lobby system in general. WTF Valve, what's wrong with your server browser... which you've used for every other game you've ever released. I guess they couldn't figure out how to port it over to the xbox effectively.

Basically the 360 has really attached an anchor to L4D, and this annoys me.
Not to be rude, but its nice to see the consoles get the shitty port for once. Normally us PC users get the shaft as they try quickly and cheaply to rework the game just enough to make it function on the PC (i.e. GH3, Saints row 2, Farcry 2, the list goes on).
You're not being rude to me... I'm a PC gamer and a long time valve fan. I've only recently become annoyed with them. That being said consoles have tons of shitty PC game ports, such as... any rts that's ever been ported over, unreal tournament, morrowind, halflife, orange box... in fact just about any valve product that's been ported over to a console has been pretty bad.

I'm just upset that this particular port has been holding up the release of content patches on the PC VERSION! This is not right. Thanks alot microsoft. Also, they can stick that DLC for fallout 3 right up there ass.
I'm just curious, how is half-life a bad port for the 360.

Uhh, "Half-Life" was never released on the 360, so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. The original halflife was only ever ported to the PS2. It wasn't a really bad port... it just was very mediocre, and unlike the PC version, you didn't have access to the mods and multiplayer which made Half-life great. The moddable engine is really what made half-life the amazing game that it was. The game itself was great too, but when you threw in Opposing Forces, Blue Shift, TFC, CS, Natural Selection, Action Halflife, Sven-Coop, etc. you have possibly one of if not the best FPS of all time.

That's always been one of the downside of consoles. Once the game is released it's pretty much finalized. Sure the advent of console harddrives allows some leeway there, but console games are still nowhere near as moddable as PC games.

As for why is orange box is a crappy port for the 360, for pretty much the same reason. The orange box on either console is not patched anywhere near as often as the orange box on the PC version, so it's bug ridden and doesn't get all the same content that the pc version does. Since the source engine is not quite as easily moddable as the quake engine was, and every mod developer releasing their mods as stand alone games over steam now, they're not too far behind as far as modding goes (as there are very few free source mods out there), but it just makes sense to get a valve game on steam as opposed to a console. After all, steam was created by valve, and valve is still very much a PC gaming company.

I think it's just plain bad manners. It's like a kid being given a free chocolate milkshake and refusing it because they wanted a banana one. We can't always have exactly what we want. Just play the damn game and enjoy it, you can be the other side in the next round anyway.

No i won't leave the game for that .
I patiently wait my trurn to play as infected .

But for some reason i find myself getting kicked when i'm playing as infected.
can someone tell me what's up with that ?

and the worst thing about it : i can't even ask why i get kicked .

Let me correct this. People are annoying, Left 4 Dead "can be" entertaining granted you have some slightly patient gamer on the other end... Like I said, "can be"

I only play on the PC, and I wish there was a feedback system. I never get my knickers in a twist when people start leaving early, I just keep playing until I lose because I'm the only survivor left (I only play Versus with my friends: I don't trust random groups).

I do however hate elitists. I invited a friend of mine to play campaign with me, and she inadvertently brought one of her friends with her...and he was a douche. Yelling out orders, running ahead and then complaining at us for going slower, then yelling at us for not helping him out when he got pounced/tongued/puked on, then laughing at us for having the same shit happen to us because "we were too slow".

Then, then, when we actually started struggling, as a whole, he claimed that we were holding him up. I politely tried to suggest that we form a more coherent group and face the challenges as a team, to which he replied that, "...I could solo this thing."

I just told him to have fun with that and quit, taking my other friend with me. We went and played Dead Air and had a fuckin' blast!

Wish I could have put a feedback on that guy that said, "Douchebagface." Not original, nor mature, but accurate.

To the argument that was going on earlier: you both brought up good points, actually. I feel somewhat more educated.
