i think you'll always meet players that rub you up the wrong way, the trick is to notice it early and just leave the game. if you play on, just getting annoyed you only have yourself to blame. i've managed to build up a good list of l4d buddies by being friendly and helpful in games, and every time i played with a nice dude i added him to my steam friends list. now i only play with good guys, and i'm having a total blast with l4d.

for every time you get annoyed, you probably annoy someone else for some obscure reason you haven't noticed. most random people you meet online have no vested interest in taking time to make you're game pleasurable to you, so they come across as dicks, therefore you've got to take the time to find or build a small community around you if you want to get the most out of a game like l4d.

sorry if this sounds obvious and preachy, but the tone of this thread is so negative!

My worst experience is when I was playing Versus, and some prick on my team kept yelling at me for not attacking head-on (FYI, I was a boomer) and then when we played survivors, he deliberately TKs me. I just thought 'fuck it, I don't deserve this' and left.

One kid I played with: "Hey guys, hide it the corner, the zombies can't find you here!" And I'm not joking...

I mostly play with friends on LAN, but I hate people who don't get the 'searching for server' thing.
Mostly I've been lucky though. When you play makes a difference.

From time to time I have had to deal with people who just didn't seem to care what was going on. It seems like every so often you get that one individual who just logs on, ignores the other players and does his or her own thing. That works in a lot of games, but it doesn't work in L4D.

I did vote kick one guy out because he ran so far ahead of the group by himself that I couldn't figure out what he was trying to do, then when we tried to talk to him he didn't answer.

There was one time I played with a guy who kept running ahead, throwing pipe bombs when there were no swarms and running across my line of fire constantly. I hate to be the jerk that tries to teach other players how to play the game, but I couldn't help but tell this guy several times "stay with the group." "Way to waste a pipe bomb." "Dude, you're gonna get killed." "Don't run off by yourself."

I really can't get over players who run into my line of fire. My FF is bad enough already without someone walking into my bullets.

I have begun to shout "Down In Front!" into my mic during games when players get in front and block the line of sight forcing me to either shoot them or not fire at all. If you're going to charge forward, duck!

The absolute worst, however, are people who don't talk at all. If you don't have a mic, at least type in chat to let us know you're paying attention. This is a game that requires some planning. The rest of the group needs to know you're listening.

1. Always play with friends.
2. Always host a game, if anyone says the words "Start" or "Go", instant kick and warning to everyone else to shut the fuck up or they will be kicked aswell.

I really wish people without mics would at least change their voice settings so they can hear me through the tv. I've had a few teams where myself and one other kid made a plan and nobody else followed it in the slightest.

Two things that annoys me are people who keep going AFK. For christ sake people click the "Take a break" button please, they added this handy feature for a reason.

The second this is just new players, i understand people have to start somewhere but for the love of christ play some single player with bots before jumping into online games. People asking how the turn on the flashlight starts getting annoying.

Apart from that i have no problems with people, i can imagine XBL gets more idiots.
This...without the blasphemy... :)

I used to have a few people I played with back when the demo launched. Very few assholes back then. I will get it after the exams this month so I can finally zombify myself.

I've taken multiple breaks from L4D since it's release because I just get fed up with idiots.

I mean, I've got a good handful of smart friends to play with through my Steam friends account, but they're not always going to be on, and the chances of three of them being on at once are slim. So I'll swing into a random public queue in either versus or campaign and end up leaving in the second or third round because I've gotten fed up with how horrible my teammates are.

I just hate it when I log into a game halfway through and everyone hates each other. So everyone is too busy calling each other noobs and recounting how they banged each other mom last night to realize that after I single handedly took down the swarm they couldn't bother deal with to see that a hunter is ripping my nuts off.

That and people who don't stick with the team and expect us to help them when they inevitable get owned.

And guys, single player is REALLY attractive, the bots are smarter then most of the dambasses on the severs.

I've been playing versus a lot with a small team of friends.

Sadly its getting boring because 90% of the time the random public team we go against are no challenge whatsoever.

Whats even worse is people who only play versus to be infected so as soon as their team switches to survivors they quit.

I hate it when other players vote to kick you when you obivously can't help them without you dieing.
I was with one dude because the other two people that were playing had already died, and then a tank came along and because we were so close to the safe room, I just ran for it.
But because I ran and got in the saferoom while the other dude got mauled by everything I got kicked.
It just sucks because we wouldn't have got any points if I didn't run to the safe room.

Also, I hate it when people are surviors on Versus, but instead of playing they actually kill each other in the saferoom so they get to become the Infected again.

I've never had the issue of waiting for a server as I almost always host myself or join a game in progress.

Surprisingly the xbox L4D community is one of the friendliest ones on XBL.
I think this is because in order to do anything in l4d you have to work together, and despite versus mode its not THAT competitive atleast compared to HALO and others.

edit: sorry for double post

When people don't know how to bash off a hunter when I'M RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. NICE JOB TRYING TO HIT THAT SMOKER WITH YOUR SHOTGUN AT FAR RANGE WHEN I'M RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU

I hate people who run way ahead of the group, get killed, and then say "my team fails" then RAGEQUIT.
