I feel as though you somehow missed the memo about cs:go even though you wrote it in your post.

Who cares about any other game valve is delaying? Valve is releasing another counter-strike! Don't get me wrong, I love their other games.. but... COUNTER-STRIKE!

I am content as long as they give me counter-strike.

I've been waiting for Episode Three for three or four years, and considering it's just supposed to be a single episode, not a full game, I'm kinda pissed about that. But what really pisses me off is they are wasting their time with Left 4 Dead 2, this new CounterStrike, and other DLC bullshit.

?I can?t help feeling that Valve have missed the point of episodic gaming somewhat. The whole idea is to mix up the usual rigamarole of game publishing by having shorter games at lower prices released more frequently, and while they have aspects one and two down, they continue to struggle with three.?

Valve takes forever to release their stuff. I've pretty much accepted that they are extremely slow with almost everything. It's not just episode 3, it's also many of their sequels or remakes that come long after the original. It's also certain updates, such as content updates in L4D2. Valve promised a new mutation mode every week but mostly what they did was release a new one once a month and just reuse previous mutation modes. Also, it takes them forever to fully complete the new campaigns they released, such as the Cold Stream campaign which is still in beta even after being out for a few months. They still haven't released Death Toll even though they announced the original L4D campaigns in L4D2 some few months ago... It's not like they're remaking those campaigns from scratch, they're essentially copy-pasting them into L4D2 with only a few adjustments, usually after the campaigns are released and in beta.

I lost patience with valve, but not really for valve time. I was one of the people that had the Orange Box on the Xbox 360. Valve generally ignored community questions about updates, occasionally mentioning in the blog a line or two about how the updates were coming, until they announced that the updates would be too large to fit. What they could have done is still support the console version via map packs and such, to at least supplement to the six maps that came on disk. Although primarily a PC company, leaving gamers in the dark by ignoring them and hoping that they would go away is sickening. They knew the confines of updates, so they could have worked within them like they did for LFD2.

I have the PC version of TF2 as well and although there is bug fixes and better netcode, quite a lot of the new items aren't great, same goes for some of the maps. I still like TF2, but valve's treatment on both ends wasn't great.

(Ironic avatar for a person who was just complaining about Valve, eh?)

Also, since I'm not getting ME3 for various reasons (even though I love ME1+2) I don't care when it will be released.
Ok, I must ask, if you liked ME1 and ME2... Why not? Boycotting EA or something? I prefer ME1 to ME2, in many ways, virtually all differences I prefer ME1, but I still really enjoyed ME2 and will still buy ME3. In fact I've totally paid off a special edition pre-order for it.

I like Valve games, but they're just games. I have the patience to wait until they're done without panicking or getting frustrated. I guess I don't care about them quite as much as a lot of the fanboys here though.

valve have the same problem as square enix and lionhead.

they try to do too much at once or to put it into one word overambition

valve tend to releace games in bunches and they all have a long dev cycle where their dev teams are spread thin.

square enix have the same problem except they tend to be constantly starting projects before finishing the previous one.

and lionhead (if the fable series is anything to go by) they try to fit too many mechanics in only finish about 1 or 2 and have to hastily put the ones they finished in awkwardly just before releace day.

im pretty sure jim sterling has said something about thid alredy

Lose patience with VALVe? Bwahahahah!
Move along people, nothing to see here.

Seriously though. No, I am not. While they always take their time, they have yet to put out a bad game. I'm a HUGE DotA fan, and with that on the horizon, they would have to work VERY hard to annoy me.

I don't care how long it takes for Valve to release a game as long as it delivers (obviously, I'd like to have it released before I die).

The only thing that irks me about them is that aside from Portal 1&2, none of their recent games have felt as polished as other titles. TF2 updates aren't that great, L4D1 and 2, while fun and blissfully grounded in co-op, feel very, very aged.

I gave up on Valve after Portal 2 came out and there was no hint, either in the game or outside of it, about the next Half-Life game. If Valve does release it, then I'll be as excited as anyone, but I'm not holding my breath anymore.
I've used this analogy before: It's like waiting in line for an awesome ride. Then, just as you're about to get on it, it breaks down. You wait, knowing that it's only a matter of time before they fix it, and once they do you'll be the first one on. Then, the guys fixing the ride drop their tools and say, "Eh, we've got something else to do. We'll fix it when we feel like it," and just walk off. Eventually, you give up and go on a different ride instead of wasting your time waiting for someone else to decide it's worth their time.

Quality for time. Valve always delivers according to that standard. Their quickly-released stuff is kind of OK, but their stuff that takes a while is awesome.

Didn't valve already state that they are working on a new engine for HL2EP3 and L4D3?
Yeah. This is what the hold-up is. If HL2Ep3 was on the normal (or even modded) Source engine, it'd be out by now.

I don't mind if it takes a long time, but I just wish they'd show us something to make the wait more bearable. Even concept art or a CG story trailer to pick over would be great.
This is just how I feel. I don't understand why they can't talk about it. I mean, they can't even tell us if they're working on it. Whenever Gabe Newell is asked about it he passes on the question like there is some secret reason why they must be silent about episode 3.

Well according to this moderately recent link, http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/05/valve-no-plans-for-a-next-generation-source-engine/, they are NOT making a new engine. So I don't know where you are getting your information...

I don't mind they take their sweet time developing it... That's fair enough. Take as much time as You need. If that would be a brand new stand alone game tight lips would be ok... But this is a story closing sequel after cliffhanger (Ep. 2) G. damn it. Update us from time to time. With some art, trailer... Anything.
That silence is really pushing my buttons. It's like Valve don't care about their customers.

I just really want Half-life 3 or Episode 3; we've been waiting close to 4 years for another installment in the series. Other than that, I have no complaints.

"Beginning" to lose patience? You should have spoken to me a couple of years ago. It's not even that I'm dying to play the games, it's that Valve really doesn't have the industry firepower of the Big Companies to pull this shit with "oh it'll be out next month DID WE SAY NEXT MONTH we meant next year ha ha". No, I'm not dying for Episode 3, and I'm not going to keel over without DLC for Portal 2, but I think they're still just a titch too minor league in the grand scheme of things to be spitting on their fans like this.
Spitting on their fans?

So you want Valve to pump out some dumb shlock just to appease its whiny fan-boys?

Okay smart guy how would you wrap up the Half life story? Any Ideas?

I'd rather that they take their time with it and it was awesome than have them piss away a perfectly crafted storyverse with a cliche ending and repeated action from the previous episodes; which is what you're asking for.

It's nice to be left wanting more for once.

Plus they have two totally original pieces of IP in the pipes that I can think of off-hand but no all you can do is whinge that the Half Life 2 trilogy is taking too long. Fuck off back to F3ar and Call of Duty.
Oooh, cute generalizations, tough guy. What part of "I'm not dying for Episode 3" did you not understand (that was, ah, Half Life 2 Episode 3 if you were just incapable of drawing that conclusion), or are you not in the habit of reading someone's entire post before flying off the handle because of one comment? They can take however damn long they want to, but they should chill out with the release statements if they're not going to stick to them. Release dates are a DEADLINE. In the real world, telling your boss a project will be done by Friday and then saying you need three more months because it's not working exactly the way you thought wouldn't fly with your boss and would probably get you fired.

Look, I'm sorry, but you're an idiot who is apparently incapable of reading more than the first and last few words of a statement. (And the Call of Duty and F3AR assumption just got you lumped into the "whiny fan-boy" group. Congrats.)

I reckon' Valve does pretty well with releases, looking at their releases the only year they haven't released something since they were set up in 1998 is 2002. Every other year they've released something. Alright Episode 3 is taking it's sweet time, but they're releasing other games in the mean time.
