PS1, retro? so soon?
Because of the rate at which computers progess I'm almost surprised the gamecube wasn't something he considered retro.

I guess retro is everything before you started playing. If you got into gaming with your XBOX of PS2, then I suppose that everything before that seems like ancient history to you...

Well, the only retro consoles I own are a NES and a N64 (if that one still counts) but I do own a lot of Virtual Console games and also really like the Mega Drive (Genesis) and SNES. There are plenty of timeless classics I still regularly enjoy. Today for example I played Castlevania III for a while spend quite some time kicking everyone's ass in the final cup of Punch-Out!! up to Super Macho Man, whose annoying 'one-hit KO' attack I never manage to dodge right.

I use emulators and really enjoy older games. I nearly cried with joy when i found my GBC but then realised I'd lost all my good games for it. I still have a drawer of PS1 games for playing on my PS2 (See sony BC is a good idea).

I also consider the Dreamcast Retro as it is so hard to find games for and also because in many ways for me it represents a time before console games became (for the most part) dumbed down junk.

I like classic games more than new ones, they are original and not for the realism like violent war games and are more like your a robot rabbit and you have to rescue these little things holding signs. Then again one like golden axe which is pretty much mash button til enemy is dead still seem less violent because of the crappy graphics.

By 'retro' I inexplicably thought you meant 'steampunk'. I would totally go for a steampunk 360, it would be kick-ass to start with and probably quieter but that's another topic.

To answer the OP though, no. Newer consoles are backwards compatible and most new games come out for the newer consoles anyway..so I see little point in the older ones.

Of course! What a silly question! The Super Nintendo is the greatest system ever made, after all.

By the way, ladies and gentlemen, the Nintendo 64, as charming as it was (and still is), does not count as "retro." It came out in 1996, for christ's sake. Now...the Famicom? The Magnavox Odyssey? Colecovision? That's "retro." (This goes for the original PlayStation as well.)

Oh, you young whippersnappers and your Haloes.

Get off my lawn.
Why should I get off your lawn? I'm only two years younger than you!

Seriously, just the other day I was playing the original Sonic and Vectorman for Genesis/Mega Drive (technically, on the Nomad(portable G/MD)), so yes, I am into retro consoles. I would play Sega Saturn, but that thing is a (minor) hassle to hook up, and the Nomad is just a "plug in the AC adapter and play"-type deal.
