Poll: Anyone else think the mana bar is a lame idea?

So way just because if I were to go to a club, talk to a girl and if she shows some interest, it makes me a douche?

Not only do you stereotype people but you also don't seem to get out much.

I'll walk you through some basics here.

1) 'Hit-on' is not 'talk to'. Also, you don't generally go to a club to talk. I'm not sure what kinds of clubs you have where you're from, but the ones here tend to make talking impossible unless you've got a voice rivalling the loudness of a Boeing's engine. I guess you could know sign language; I'm sorry if that's the case, because I'd be pretty jealous of hooking up with someone at a club based on sign language exchanges.

2) You don't target me with personal insults until you've established that you've got the upper hand. Otherwise, you end up in a bit of an embarrassing situation. And yes, I do go out, though I tend not to go to clubs unless it's a friend's birthday (otherwise, I go to a pub).

Unrelated to that brouhaha; does anybody know if the Mana Bar will be serving food or that sort? Because, as I'm sure people have already noted, the release of Portal 2 will provide a very good opportunity to sell cakes.

Though the dance floor is very loud and hard to talk to without shouting I am sure there are quieter areas around the bar area of the club that makes it easier to talk with a female.

By no means is it meant to be a serious gaming establishment, or so I feel. As you've said, we're in an age where it's much easier and cheaper to simply network two consoles together and play with friends, rather than do it at a set location. I'm assuming that it's spiritually supposed to function as more of a casual place where you go to hang out. The drinks will help lubricate things, of course.

Also, given that it's in Australia, I'm sure that they'll get a great deal of traffic from teenagers who aren't allowed to have games or consoles in their homes.

The only beer I drink is a rootbeer float. And believe me, I keep an eye on my drinks. If I ever lost sight of my drink and a guy gave it back to me and offered to toast, I'd have him drink both his and mine, and stand there, watching. If he doesn't, I'd taze him.

they have the Warhammer pub in England, just a place where you can drink and talk with fellow Warhammer enthusiasts.

I really dont have a problem with it. But then I live in the US so its not like I can just head over for a few drinks. Though I would definitely make a trip to England to just go drinking at a Warhammer pub

It's a nice idea, I'm just not sure that the timing is good. It might've been better to wait until Michael Atkinson was out of office.

By setting the Mana Bar up, Yahtzee (as the most vocal and well known of the owners) is essentially putting himself against Michael Atkinson, by publicly offering a place for people to partake in the very actions that the governor so despises. Atkinson will fear this place, as he'll see it as 'violent video games + inhibition-lowering alcohol + group mentality = riots/flames/floods'. Now we all know that this is nonsense, but for a conservative like MA it'll be a nightmare that rips him from his sleep, well, if it does well it will be.

Ok this is probably one of the stupidest statements I have ever heard of on the internet.(No offense) Not only do you state that anyone 18 or older would still be THAT restricted by their parents but you also mention it as a possible marketing idea? Not only would someone who is 18 and be whipped so hard by his parents that he can buy a video game consoles be weird, but also kinda seems it would be just down right pathetic he has to go to a bar to play video games.

I know quite a few people who don't own consoles because their parents don't let them into the house. The oldest is 24 (he's engaged, before allegations of no-life syndrome are made; and yes, he's moving out soon). Of course, I'm sure that's a niche market, but it's still a market. People who aren't into the club scene may very well go to the Mana Bar, and people who don't want to pay for the newest games or consoles can also stop by.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. We can only assume.

Well, I'm assuming that they can set up a system where you need a wristband or such to buy drinks. We used to do that all the time here in Canada (until we got old enough for fakes to work). As for that, I have no idea. I know that they're tough on games, though.

I just thought the Mana Bar would be just that - a bar. Where I live, bars are places where people go to drink and chill out with their friends. It just seems like the Mana Bar will be that, but with a video game-inspired atmosphere. Clubs are where people go to dance and "go wild", they're two separate things. I personally think the idea is really cool.

I can see the problems it might face with contemporary gaming but I rather like the idea.
I hate most music that you play in clubs, crowds freak me out and I have a horrible first impression so meeting people not easy for me.
a bar is what this seems like rather than a nightclub.
A place to drink with friends in a public place while having videogames that you might have to all bring together otherwise.

Have we so little originality? I think It's definately worth a shot to say the least, and it's not without precedent, as such clubs already operate overseas...we're just a lil behind is all. I HATE the current nightlife, incessant *DOOF DOOF 'wiki-wiki-wiki'* and dancing and binge drinking, don't care for it one bit. Bars however, I could deal with, and the variety of people this place is likely to bring in will hopefully avoid the doofus-demographic, and you'll probably end up with the most socially relaxed and intelligent atmosphere of any bar/club.

I'm also getting a lil tired of stamping 'IT'S YAHTZEES!' to things. I get it, I like Zero Punctuation too, but give him some peace, or at least, give Yug and the others some credit, Yahtzee isn't the only one involved in creating this bar. I'm sure he's facepalmed more than once over people's obsession with him. He seems like a top bloke, and I wouldn't mind saying hello to him, but I won't worship him

Wii Sports + Alcohol. Ive seen it many times before. If they can provide that, it will be very popular.

And i think its aiming for a demographic that not many other bars or pubs go for, gamers. Thats a bonus.
