Did anyone else think OP was refering to your magic bar in RPG's? Just me then? Huh.

OT: No I don't think it's a bad idea. In fact, I'd like to go there someday (once I have a passport).

Off topic: Did Australia have their elections yet?

Hey, it's worked before. There is a place here in Auckland called RvB. You get drunk, hang out and cute girls come watch you kill nazi zombies. And there are sometimes there are sometimes dance contests between said girls. It is in fact the best thing ever.

Clearly OP has never spent hours with friends, videogames and alcohol. Trust me, they mix very well. And after a few beers/shots, the people you're playing with don't even have to be friends anymore.

If it has more than just Wii party games, then I expect things to get ugly.

All you need is someone to get mad rage after several pints of stella, because he got sniped by a "lamer" and then its gonna get interesting.

It's a good idea. One, to have a place to go out to where you can have a bartender make drinks while you play with friends obviously, and two, to meet people that you would probably get along with. Might be a bit of a sausage fest and I can't imagine dealing with people fucking up your systems when they're too drunk to give a shit, but still sounds like it might work.

Unrelated to that brouhaha; does anybody know if the Mana Bar will be serving food or that sort? Because, as I'm sure people have already noted, the release of Portal 2 will provide a very good opportunity to sell cakes.
Have massive banners advertising cake, the whole staff promising cake for the customers, and finally when it's midnight.. Nothing happens [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StealthPun].

I think it's a decent idea, I would atleast visit, assuming that it's not a club, but a pub. Somewhere I can go to with the few gamer friends I've got, and get drunk. I usually stick to beer and whisky, but I wouldn't mind drinking a "Potion of Strength", if the name and ingredients were clever enough.

I like the idea. I just don't think it could work. Many of the people who are attracted to bars aren't the gaming type and many of Yahtzee's fans are too young to drink. I myself, despite living in Brisbane, don't drink any alcohol at all, and so his bar holds no appeal to me (plus the Brisbane "valley" region is a good place to go if you want to meet drunken, fighting louts late at night. Not my idea of a good time).

Yahtzee is the main draw to the Mana Bar, make no mistake. It's the reason why people will go to it. Yahtzee BETTER be prepared to deal with the masses who come, because he'll have to. And he really, REALLY doesn't strike me as the patient type.

If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I'd wager 100 dollars that Yahtzee loses his head after about 3 nights of dealing with fans and patrons. He's not a sociable guy, and it comes across in his videos, interviews and writings. He is NOT a people person by the looks of it, and being a bar host and bar drawn REQUIRES YOU TO BE SOCIABLE.

I admit it would be funny to see his inevitable eruption at the cloying fans who will be constantly pestering him. I hope the money he earns from this is worth the terrible, terrible damage it will do him psychologically.

I wonder how long Yahtzee will cope with his Fans before he snaps and insults sombody

I've had several LAN parties where we all get blind drunk play some games, go out to some party come back get even more drunk, game till small hours of the morning then pass out.
Its alot of fun.

I reckon it's not a bad idea, and gives me another reason to vist Brisbane every year.

Though I would like to see one closer to home...

For those who don't know the Mana bar is a new bar Yathzee and his friends are developing set to due open in late March. The bar specializes in video games to entertain guests with a variety of drinks too.

Now I personally don't appeal to this kinda idea. To me there are some things that just don't mix. I enjoy video games as much as the next guy but i don't know if you can combine that with nightlife. It just seems they are really trying to add a nerdy feel to this and it just seems kinda weird. Cool me a douche if you may, but I view bars and clubs as an area of nightlife in which you binge, dance, hit on women, and go wild. Adding video games to the mix just seems like adding water to oil.
You must have some shitty nightlife in your area then.

It's more like a pub than a bar, focussing on social relaxation and such rather than retarded "binge, dance, hit on women, and go wild" mentalities.

How is that shitty? Relaxing nightlife is boring as fuck.

I do actually but we usually do it during the weekdays. It just seems dumb to waste a weekend on it when we could be doing more productive things like talking to women.

If i seriously asked one of my friends if they wanted to get drunk and play some vidya on a Wednesday they would say fuck yeah. If I asked them the same thing during a weekend they would say that is a very fucking stupid idea, I heard it's lady's night at Molly's, lets go there.

It has potential.

Whether or not it will work out, remains to be seen but there are too many variables at the moment to make a definite YES or NO right now

I don't think it's a lame idea, but I'm really not sure if it's going to work. It's sort of a logical extension of having your friends over to have some drinks and play Rockband, etc. The problem with a bar, however, is that those people aren't your friends. That natural social atmosphere of your living room could certainly clash with the (not always) natural social atmosphere of a bar.
