I always thought a war with US vs North Korea + China, because North Korea have always been a bit twitchy, so I don't care what reason you come up with for making them piss off the US, so the US move in and try to stop them or send in a covert ops team or something, then China finds out and is all like "Oh no he didn't!" and declare war on US.

That was my biggest problem with Salt: Russia=bad, America=good. I would love to see a movie, video game or, book where they take a country like Norway or, Greece and get them to attempt a global take-over. Not specifically Greece or, Norway of course just a country which isn't:

A) A WWII super-power
B) In the Middle East

Oh yeah because the United States, Japan, a Europeon government leader, Germany, Aliens mutants, Robots ,time travelers, the breathing and etc. have never been depicted as the bad guy before. It's just a hot topic(Not an endorsement... Even though I just got a niffy shirt there.) like when a bunch of Comic books start getting movies or Vampires start getting dates with humans,It's just alot at once not nothing but one thing.

god, I'm more sick of this "Russians =evil" thing than I am of the "white people=evil" thing we're seeing in scifi nowadays
Ummm...

What?

OT: Kinda, but I don't feel as if it's in everything. I'm still thankful that we're pulling out of the WW2 phase for FPSs.

The thing is, if you want it to be believable-ish then you're limited to a few countries. Most countries aren't really that hostile, whereas the likes of America, Russia, Germany, Afghanistan, etc. maintain that image (rightly or wrongly).

You couldn't have a game where you're defending Switzerland from an Australian invasion and try to sell it seriously.

I know Russia and the US are still not that close, but come on, I'm sick of seeing Russians as bad guys in almost every spy thriller that's out and I'm even sicker of killing millions of them in FPS and RTS games. Dude the cold war has been over for about 2 decades now
You know who else I am tired of seeing as bad guys? Nazis. The biggest problem is they all have the same personality: fucking evil. I want to see a media that shows the story from their perspective. Then I don't want to hear the word Nazi (without another noun in front of it i.e. Grammar Nazi) again for the next 20 years.

In a cold war era game it makes sense. They were perfect in Goldeneye, it felt like a classic cold war era thriller (despite being post cold war, but it was James bond and I'm of the age that James Bond = Cold war & Russians). In other games I can do without it, I like the Russkies. I even speak a bit of the Russkie Yazik.

It gets a little silly when you consider how much of a role Russia actually had in WWII defeating the Nazi's and never ever having had an actual war with America, Americans really don't have much of a valid reason to be that bothered by a country that doesn't really threaten them.

Been replaying Starcraft and Brood War and it actually made quite an impression on me how many Terran characters have heavy Russian accents in mission briefings. Also, they all kick ass. Like, if you hear a Russian accent in Starcraft, you preemptively know that this guy is a high ranking officer and kicks ass.
There was only one character with a Russian accent, and he was completely bad ass (and not evil).

I think it might have something to do with the way their accent sounds.
For whatever reason, people here seem to associate Russian or German accents with evil mad scientists.
Whatever reason? I'm going to guess that reason just might have something to do with them having been depicted that way in hundreds of movies and TV shows and books and games for the past several decades.

this is why i bought metro 2033, because every house in america has 2 computers, a phone, the internet and a satelite dish.

metro 2033 was if you took an all ready cold country, gave it nuclear winter and put it underground.

plus the russians weren't the bad guys, or the good guys. just the guys trying to survive.

Apart from Stukov obviously, DuGalle's accent sounds very Russian to me. Also iirc there was another guy who popped up briefly to give an update on...something and he sounded Russian too. Pretty much everyone from the UED.

Damn, how about having some evil American separatists for a change? You can pretend the state of Texas decided to secede from the US and were punctuating their ideas by blowing up shopping malls.

Stukov was probably Russian, but DuGalle was French, imo. Also, the Battlecruiser default commander is Russian. :p

How about the english for a change. I mean how many revolutionary war first person shooters are their. True the guns would sorta suck, but that's what those pointy things on the ends of the barrels are for.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

Set on the Eastern Front during World War II between 1941 and 1945, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 depicts the struggle between Soviet and German forces. The game's creators, Tripwire Interactive, developed the game out of the previous Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, Red Orchestra: Combined Arms.

As of April 2009, the game has sold "around 400,000 copies".

Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad

The title will focus heavily on the Battle of Stalingrad. Publisher of the title, the 1C Company, have indicated the release date will be around Q4 2010.
Platforms available for the game are yet to be announced.
The game will contain many new features including a new first person cover system combined with blind firing, first person collision detection as well as an entire new system of statistics tracking and enabling player development.

Their are a few Russian FPS games If I made one I would make it about this lady
