I'm pretty sure people are just kidding about it...

Whenever it comes up in conversation in our school, it's basically accepted as a giant joke...

But if you need evidence on why the Mayan Calendar thing is bs to show your friends...

I do not believe the earth will end in 2012 because of some calender made by an ancient civilization. As my science teacher says "If they were so smart they wouldn't have died out." Anyway, I do believe that the earth will not be able to support the human population much longer, but this will most likely be hundreds of years.

I think they just realized they made their calender too long.
Or they just said: "Steve: Hey let's just end it here with no explanation. Bill: Wait why Steve? Steve: I dunno Bill, to see who is fucking stupid enough in the future to belive it. Bill: Dude nobody is that dumb, wouldn't they just realise that we ended it because it's so fucking long? Steve: Trust me, somebody is stupid enough. Bill: This may be the longest prank in mankinds history ever. Steve: Yup." =P

So if my Calendar ends what happens? I BUY A NEW ONE! It's just the end of a damn calendar, not the end of the world.
Yay problem solved!
After all, didn't the Mayans all vanish/die without a trace? Well they couldn't have been that good at predictions then could they?

I joke about it a lot. When my sister said she'd getting married in 2012 I said, "Oh, good, you'll have two months of marriage!" She thought I was serious and questioned my intelligence... *****.

People who obsess about 2012 are the ones who will die, in my opinion. How I see it is, if you constantly worry about it and it has that much of an effect on you, it's probably going to happen to you. :p

Ok ok, but being serious, I don't believe in 2012. If anything, mankind might wipe itself out in that time rather then a planned disaster. Whether it be oil leaks, nukes, or global warming.
There goes half of our population! WOOHOO
It just occured to me that this might be all some ruse to stimulate the population growth. HAHA.
DOH!

I can't wait until when it's supposedly going to happen, then yell into the air, "Nothing happened!"

2012 will be this century's Y2K. In other words, nothing will happen! Actually, I take that back. Something will happen. Maybe people will die in car accidents, murders, of disease. Perhaps a couple hundred babies will be born. Hell, perhaps HL2: Episode 3 finally comes out in 2012. So yea, shit will happen. Normal shit.

Guys I go to a weird school. Even though I am currently out of school I still see some people from it. Lot's of people at my school talk about "2012" and "WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE ANYWAY!" which annoys the hell outta me. The mayan calender is ending, that does not mean that WE WILL DIE! What are your thoughts about the "2012" talk?
It is ridiculous. The world won't end.

People don't seem to understand that the Mayan calendar is cyclical, so in 2012 the world is just going to restart!

I missed those cavemen anyway.

OT: It's not happening.

Ah, this ol' chestnut, I've prepared for a statement on this.

"If the Myans were so smart. Why the fuck are they gone?"

I saw a thing last year that "2012" would have actually happened in 2008, or 2009, because the people going by 2012 counted it wrong compared to the literal thing. Either way, I don't care, or believe in it.

The Mayans couldn't even see their own demise coming, I truly doubt they could predict the end of the world, especially if it's 600 years away. They couldn't even pinpoint it.

I used to be pretty paranoid, and I believed the whole bit about the alien dysonsphere that was gonna test a nuke on us. And then I realized that if another planet was gonna come along anytime soon, we'd have noticed it waaaaaaaaaaaay before it would get here. There wouldn't be any debate about it if it was actually there.

So in summary, at one point I did believe the planet x stuff, but never the Mayan calender stuff.

I'm very gullible.
