Why would aliens even care about us? Particularly if they're more intelligent, which is highly likely. My cats are more intelligent than a lot of people I know.

Non-terrestrial life, eh?

I think that if life exists on other planets, it'll be either microorganims (or maybe a step up from that: mold!), or species so advanced that they'd not bother with us, seeing as they've discovered FTL-capable ships with an efficient powerplant (cold fusion power, or maybe something even better?), where as we have comparatively, barely made an effective wheel.

I think it really depends.

We're pretty developed, yet it doesn't look like we'll be giving up war any time soon unfortunately... and, considering the fact that the levels of war haven't really diminished as humans have developed (infact, with more powerful weaponry, its increased), I think its safe to assume we'll be a war-like species for many years to come, despite further development...

If said aliens are similar to us (as in, humanoid, similar thought process etc), then chances are, they will be similar to us and will be war like... though they may initially come in peace, political unrest may result in war.

That said, we also have to think of the possibility of aliens being completely different from us - its quite possible that aliens will never have even thought of the concept of war.

They would not kill us because we have been in contact with aliens since the 1950's(at least in America). If they wanted us dead they would have already killed us. Their is actual proof to the fact aliens are here on earth I've even seen some stuff on the news from time to time about it, along with many shows that not even scientists can disprove the facts of. If you don't believe me I don't care your the ignorant one not me.

Aliens probably don't give a shit about us. They're all "Uranium bombs? Shit, that's how our toasters work".
Lolol xD

OT: I think they would be nice, it would be interesting to see how they live.

Why on earth would they be hostile (unless we were landing on their planet)?
If they need resources then there are plenty of other planets.
If they need workers then robots seem a better choice than an interplanetary war.
If they just need to get their kicks then they won't be advanced enough to have starships.

How should I know?

I like to think there's other intelligent life out there, but I suspect that they're only aware of our system in the same way we're aware of, say, the star ζ Ophiuchi - they gave us a name and that's about it. Maybe they know a planet here could possibly support life, and want to check that out at some point in the future, when their tech is a bit better and their space program has more funding.

I certainly don't think there's any particular race out there with aims to conquer Earth. Maybe some would, given the chance, but technology advanced enough to make traveling to and conquering a planet cost-effective is probably also advanced enough make doing so unnecessary.

Of course, even if both we (Earth, assuming we've unified and all that) and the aliens start off really trying for peaceful relations, when you consider the differences in what HUMAN cultures consider friendly or hostile behavior, the potential for interplanetary war-causing diplomatic whoopsies between races without a common evolutionary background becomes frighteningly high.

Probably.

The predators of an environment are usually the smartest as they have to be to successfully outwit their prey, therefore at the top of the food chain they are most likely to develop the technology to come in contact with us.

Only the most violent would rise to the top. generally we should be careful of Alien contact.

The only reason they would not attack us would be if they thought it would jeopardise their own safety.

Wouldn't it depend on the alien? I mean if they're from another planet, they may be completely different to us morally.

But most of them would probably shoot first and ask questions later, as a territorial thing.

I also said yes. If aliens weren't hostile, they soon would be after humans start trying to blast them. Humans would panic and assume they're hostile, and then the aliens would just totally destroy us.

It would be all fine and good and then the aliens will ask to have like a mile of land for an alien embassy and the right for interspecies marriage. Then a bunch of countries will think they are trying to invade and the church will say its against the bible.

I think they'd be peaceful, after all, look at alien invasion films. It never ends well for them.

I think it would be up to us in how they would react to us.

And the thing to consider there is that... we'd be obliterated. There's no way that we would stand a chance against a far-more advanced species of beings that have been able to build space-faring craft on a large scale and possibly live long enough to make space travel pragmatic.

This on top of, of course, the fact that we are still alive when they make contact. If there was something they wanted from us or just wanted to be all murder crazy... they would just do it- which goes back to the previous point that they would never have to worry about opposition

I doubt that most aliens would be hostile to us...

Most likely I think that they would rather study us and our culture as opposed to just destroy us for the resources that could more easily be gathered from a uninhabited planet unless they desperately wanted to expand, or for teh lulz. Maybe trade us technology and information for raw resources and perhaps the opportunity to build a remote military base in Antarctica...

Or if were really lucky they might try to uplift us in order to make us there allies and BFFs. Or if Were Really REALLY lucky there a race of sex-starved all female race that looks suspiciously humanoid...

No, aliens are not "out" to destroy humanity, just like humans aren't "out" to kill the polar bears. However, if the well-being of those polar bears gets in humanity's way, those polar bears are getting fucked.

As long as we use up all resources that a sufficently advanced race might be in need of, they won't kill us for it. So the long and short of it is: we'll be fine.
