Every so often scrabble will make an appearance, (generally with a bottle or two of wine and some good background music)

Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit are classics and great for sunday afternoons with family over (and more wine!)

It's strange cause I love playing board games with family and friends, but don't like playing video games with others!

Board games are alive and well. Companies like Fantasy Flight have successfully revived a lot of dead franchises through them, and their quality keeps getting better.

Board games are the worst business plan ever. You buy one and it's good for years. You don't have to buy anything else and you don't even have to buy that many.

It's perfect for those awkward family reunions and what-not.
I know some friends and I recently played Apples-to-Apples and Pictionary on a trip to Tahoe.

EDIT: I recently found out that I'm pretty good at Chess (kind of). And a friend and I want to get Go, the Asian version of Chess

Chess is like a kid friendly European version of Go
...Now that's just semantics. Chess originated in Europe, Go originated in China. You can say it either way, it really just depends on perspective. By the completely different strategy in the games, I don't think one influenced the other.
